The back room was unnervingly quiet, the tattered curtain muffling the outside sounds. Souris sat down, looking at the teapot, wondering if the invitation had been deliberate. She was no biped, and unable to lift and pour easily. This was too heavy for her to lift with one paw. Cauter must have forgotten that she had only her animal form. She sighed, giving in to vexation for a moment, before shoving her thoughts aside. She had work to do. She shifted carefully in the seat, until her position hid her ungainly tail, while displaying her soft curves and yellow and lilac fur clearly. Then, she arranged the awkward hinds to splay gracefully in the chair. Finally, satisified that she'd displayed herself to her best advantage, she proceeded to kneaded and clawed and picked and fluffed at her fur until every inch was soft to the touch. Now she just had to wait for Cauter.

The musty curtains were finally pulled back aside as the pink striped Equine made an elaborate bow out towards the store, his back blocking the person to whom he was speaking. "Of course, good afternoon, your majesty."He then turned back to the mouse, pulling the curtain closed behind him, grin wide upon his face...pockets wondrously full and a delightfully pretty maid to talk to. He seated himself across from her and immediately poured her some tea. "Villa cinnamon blend, will you be having milk and sugar or lemon, my dear?"He asked, facial jewelry chiming softly as he hastened to reach back for the milk and sugar in case she should want some. "So, what need have you of a private audience with me Cherie? Looking for a rare item, perhaps a potion? Or are you simply interested in...someone rather than something?"The last statement was said with a casual flick of his eyes to her face, no leers or crude winks now...just an odd hopefulness. "If it is an item I can guarantee that no matter the rarity, I can either seek out the original or one just like it..."

Her heart beating fast, as he approached, she smiled up at the equine biped, quickly revising her opinion. Perhaps he was not as courtly as she would wish, but he was well-mannered. He had, after all, granted her a private audience, and put her in his back room.
Odd though, that he'd done that when he had a Face card in the store.
"Milk and sugar." She decided, thinking that would compliment the drink better than the lemon, and wondering at the decided difference in his manner, and deciding to jump straight to the point. "I did not come to you to seek out an item, however rare or unusual." She paused, waiting to be sure that she had his full attention, silently taking a deep breath, before stating her intent.
"I came to seek out someone rather than something." Careful to use his exact words, and equally careful not to specify who. Or why. She needed to know how he would react first.
Besides, she was enjoying his company. She didn't want to end the conversation yet.

"Milk and sugar it is then. I am rather partial to it myself." So saying, he poured a bit in for her and handed her a spoon, this spoon had a thick handle and a wide jutting flat bit, obviously made for those without their Bipedal forms.
He then poured himself a cup, adding milk and sugar as he pondered her statement. He wasn't sure whether or not to take it as a come on. He had heard of Gardens dwellers taking to men every now and again...but at the same time he didn't want to make an assumption and be seen as a pervert.
Oh but how he would love it to be a pick-up line...
"Someone? I'll need a bit more to go on than that, my dear, I know a great many someones."
He paused and raised his eyes from his glass, hoping to see a favorable reaction...and trying to force the fantasies in his head to retreat.

Souris took the spoon carefully, smiling slightly. Oh, yes. This was a spoon she could use. She smiled her thanks at Cauter, stirring the mix absently, as she watched him, appreciating the fact that he'd served her first.
"You know a great many someones?"she asked playfully, with a curious head tilt. Perhaps Cauter would be able to help her find exactly what she needed? She brightened up perceptibly, before catching herself sharply. "How do you know I didn't come seeking you?" she asked, fighting the urge to sulk. Instead, she spoke simply, and sincerely. Because she was serious.
She had come seeking Cauter. He just didn't have the knowledge she sought.
She hesitated uncertainly, lifting her cup in both paws, before moving on,"I seek someone, maybe several someones, with particular knowledge, for a particular purpose." She tried to clarify, as she raised the cup to her muzzle.
She paused, knowing that she couldn't sip neatly without dripping tea on her fur, and reluctantly lapped the tea from the cup.Neither polite, nor lady-like, but the most efficient manner of drinking when in an animal form. She hesitated, wanting to go on, but deciding instead to wait, and see what he said.
She needed to know his response, before going on.

"Well, yes, I do know quite a number of people around here an- Did you come seeking me?"
He asked, cutting himself off and trying not to sound too hopeful. Was she really here just to see him? That seemed too good to be true, but he had heard about the odd Gardens dweller who preferred men...perhaps she...
Her next statement, while not erasing the hopes, dimmed them a little.
"Well, then, perhaps I can help and perhaps I can't. What knowledge and purpose do you seek, my dear, I really can't choose who to recommend you see about this...issue? Unless I know more about what it is you want..."

Souris smiled slightly, as she put her cup down, faintly amused at his genuine surprise at the idea that she might have come seeking him. He was, after all, a prominent Corvestowneian, and respected businessman. What could be more natural than for a Card, searching for a specific contact, or contacts to deliberately seek him out?
But she kept these thoughts to herself. "Perhaps I did, perhaps I didn't," she teased, gently. She didn't want Cauter to think she was deliberately using him. Instead, she kept to the subject, leaning forward slightly to let her fur brush lightly against his sensuously; a half-remembered trick.
"I seek knowledge on poisons", she answered softly, watching the expressions play across his face, before deciding to continue,"And genetic therapy" to begin with, anyway. She was also eyeing the tempting red/green potions that was displayed in the shop front, but she didn't have the requisite 100 points, and she doubted her ability to persuade Cauter that her meager points were worth those potions.

"Poisons?" The Equine asked in mild surprise.
He certainly wouldn't have thought that to be the first thing she would want...but...well...whatever the customer wants...
"If you're wanting people who deal in poisons, my dear, I have a few names for you... You'll want to check out Marvin, and interesting chap...only met him once so far but, he's quite the fellow with drugs... You may also want to consider miss Lamya, she's a very sweet girl, I've no reason to see why she wouldn't assist you...for a price."
He considered her carefully as he took another sip of tea.
"There is one other I know of specifically, though I wouldn't recommend him. One, Mr. Todd, down on the far end of the Bazaar. It's undeniable that he is "in the know" but he is reputed for having...odd dealings and some of his customers seem to...disappear. Just rumors, I'm sure, but just the same.."
He looked at her directly.
"For your own safety, my dear, stay away from him if you can help it."

Souris lifted the cup carefully to her muzzle, lapping the delicious brew, as she regarded him thoughtfully. The poisons secreted in the Gardens was common knowledge among the Gardens dwellers, but few outsiders knew.
Knowledge on poisons would give her considerable power, considering the bounty scattered throughout the Garden. A power that others would respect, despite her Suit and Rank. But Cauter didn't know that; didn't need to know that. And so she kept her silence, listening.
Two names he had given her. Marvin, and Lamya. And one other. M. Todd. An undesirable person, she gathered, and unsuitable to tuition her. But, still, she was shocked that the equine biped had thought to warn her away from him. She would have to head down to the far end of the Bazaar, patronize his shop. Find out more.
But for now, she finished the last drop, and turned her attention to business."Very well, M. Cauter." she answered, being careful not to specify agreement to anything, before going on to ask,"What price?" She needed to know, before she decided if she would pay.

Cauter shook his head, smiling.
"No price, my dear. Information...for the time being, is free. I cannot take you to any of these people, but I can tell you how to reach them."
Thus saying, he reached up to a shelf behind him, twisting his back into an almost unnatural position to do so, his spine cracking audibly.
"Here are their addresses, most in Corvistowne are a polite and helpful bunch...but don't follow any of them into their labs if you don't know them..."
He handed her the cards, a soft cream color with red script, detailing the addresses of his former customers. Watching her face closely.
"You're an interesting one, my dear, please be careful and remember to avoid the lower Bazaar. I would not want to think that any casualty you suffered was due to my lack of fair warning."
He stood, clearing away the tea things and glancing out toward his shoppe.
