The mark of a ‘K’ had been on his chest for quite some time now, something that delighted the mouse to a great degree. The duties that came with it were hard work, he would not lie about that, but it was something that he took great pride in. Currently things were slow at the Court which had offered him a chance to come back to the Capital to spend some time with his friends and family. He had greatly missed their wild antics while he was gone. “That will be thirty five gold, ma’am.” He told the chipmunk who stood at the counter purchasing a necklace that had sparked her interest. The chipmunk handed over the money and with a parting wave left the gallery-shop. Things were going quite nicely with the business. Looking down to place the coins that the female had given him into the till he would have, at first, missed the next person who entered the shop.

The man was tall and somewhat rangy, feathers in disarray and his mixed heritage obvious. Brilliant Corvistowne pink and black threaded across his feathery body with white and he looked like he hadn't bathed in a month. His feathers almost shone with faint layer of oil or grease or both. He didn't seem to be paying his appearance much mind, however, and dragged someone else along behind him, a creature that may or may not have been related to him if the white heritage bore through.
He eyed the mouse behind the counter speculatively and shuffled over, dipping his head politely. "Excuse me, Your Highness," he said in the manner of one with an offer, rather than one interested in buying items. "I couldn't help but notice a distinct lack of extra help around your shop. Were you interested, I happen to have a young man here, an exceptionally hale and hearty individual, who might interest you. He has... outlived his usefulness to me."
((Sorry, this may be rather crappy as a whole. >_>;; I don't do well with "patently bad" characters.))

Glancing up when he was address, especially by his title, his eyes landed on the bird. Taking in the creature’s appearance, he was a little confused and taken aback by the creature’s appearance, though he was careful to keep his face calm and welcoming. It would not do It was not often that someone so . . . unkempt came into his store and even though the male’s tone already suggested it, he was pretty sure this male would not be buying anything.
He became confused at the man’s word choice. “I could use the help around here. How is it that this youth has . . . uh . . . outlived his usefulness?” He was hesitant about what he was going to be getting himself into here. He did not need someone causing trouble around or in the shop and something about this man rubbed him wrong. Glancing behind the man he tried to take in the youth behind him.

The bird bowed politely at the man's cautious interest, the edges off his beak tilting up in a smile. Finally, a prospect that looked even the slightest bit promising! He couldn't wait to get the boy off his hands. It had been far too long since he had stopped reacting properly to the Corvistowneian's concoctions, and even longer since he had started disliking the youth intensely.
"Well, as you may have inferred, I am a native of my region who is very intent on my work, to the exclusion of all else. This young man has been my lab assistant for a number of years. Unfortunately, constant exposure to experimental substances has left him with a particularly heightened immune system." As well as a few lovely little 'issues', but you don't need to know anything about that, now do you? "I would very much like to sell his services to an interested party, perhaps yourself, Your Highness."

The small bird that was absently being dragged along behind his uncle was, in fact, rather insane at the moment, but was keeping quiet about it to the extent that his uncle had yet to notice, and neither did anyone they'd passed.. except the poor old lady he'd licked, but she left before making a scene, so the crow had simply jerked him along and he'd toddered along like the witless baby he was at the moment. As they entered the shop he stood staring, unblinkingly at Aderlass but his eyes seemed not to see; after a moment he took a sharp turn and stumbled over to one of the cases in order to literally drool a few inches away from a rather dull rock. Presumably it had magical powers, but the owl stared at it as if it were remarkably shiny.. A watch hanging from his wrist ticked loudly, far more loudly than a normal watch should, but the owl took no notice of it, merely toddered back and forth on his feet after the rock lost his interest. Abruptly he staggered forward in front of his uncle and planted himself in Aderlass's face. "D'you.. .. D'you have any cheese?" He said quietly, his expression deadpan and his tone utterly serious. "I'm afraid I'm in need of some cheese.. colby if you have it, sir."

Seeing the owl behind the crow he could not resist the action of raising an eyebrow. This was . . . and odd situation to be put in.
Seeing that the owl was about to drool on one of his display pieces and then the creature’s demanding of cheese he figured it would probably be a good idea to talk about this behind doors rather then right outside where any of his customers could see.
“Come, how about I get you some cheese, colby was it?” He addressed to the owl while opening the slab that would let them behind the counter. “And then you and I can talk about the details and wot exactly it is that you are asking of me.”
He called for Maji to watch the main area while he brought the two other birds back to the small kitchen area they had. After getting a small amount of cheese for the younger bird and placing it before him, he took his seat. “Why is it that you are deciding to um . . . sell him now if he has been your assistant for years with no problem?” He asked giving his full attention to the crow.

The man followed gratefully after the mouse, yanking his nephew along behind him. Weird little thing might well sour the deal before it had even begun... but still, this was farther than he'd been able to get with anyone else.
"Sir, I am merely asking of you a fair market price for this young man's services. I'm sure that you could put him to excellent use. He could use a change of scenery, after working with me in my lab for so long. As to why I'm selling him, well... my experiments have sadly gone on to places that he cannot follow." Mentally, the little dimwit. "I can promise you, however, that he is a very hard worker and will want nothing more than the occasional piece of cheese. A childhood fancy of his, you understand. Really, you wouldn't even have to pay him, which is why I am asking for compensation up front."

He eyed the owl. He could not really see how this creature was suppose to be such a great asset to his shop if all it could do was drool over his displays and beg for cheese. Something did not seem to add up here.
“If I am not going to have to pay him . . . then why in all the regions should I pay you to take him off your hands? It seems like you are so desperate to get rid of your . . . assistant was it?”
It was obvious that this man did not want the owl, for reasons that were known and he was pretty sure were unknown. He doubted that the male was even capable of taking care of the creature properly, whatever it was that might be wrong with the lad.
He hated to admit it but sometimes his need to help others often caused more trouble then it ever seemed worth. If he had to, then he would talk the man down on his price . . . but something told him that he was going to be bringing home someone new to join the family one way or the other.

The owl snatched the cheese up as soon as it was presented and immediately hobbled to the furthest corner to the room. He sat down and stared at the cheese for several minutes before it simply.. disappeared.. presumably under one of his wings, though it was difficult to tell.
Then he seemed to freeze and his body tensed up completely, his eyes blank. After a moment of that he went completely lax, and he began blinking, looking completely confused.. but a bit less insane, overall.
He abruptly grabbed for the watch hanging from his wrist and analyzed it for a few seconds, before muttering something about thirty minutes under his breath and glaring at his uncle. His gaze switched suspiciously to Aderlass but he said nothing, not knowing anything of the situation--for all he knew, speach could lead to the death of him, since his uncle never let him leave the lab.. this was clearly an extraneous situation.

The older bird glared at the boy for a moment, nearly willing him to stop acting like a little lunatic and just sit there obediently. It was a look of intense warning. Then he turned back to Aderlass and offered him another beaky smile, this one even oiler.
"He will not be working for you, practically for free, unless you take him off my hands. I will not be charging an exorbitant sum, just enough to cover some expenses I have incurred on his behalf such as food. Even then, he doesn't eat very much. I am asking for a moderate sum in exchange for years of free labor. Surely this is not an unfair trade? Once he is yours, he is yours to do with as you will."
