The Cards may be the dominant society, but it doesn't mean they are the only society. Far from it. There are two other recognized empires, as well as an underground trading and thieving guild. These strange outside cultures, however odd their inhabitants may be, are generally recognized as 'people' by the Cards...though not always.
Court of Cats: The Court of Cats is extensive and one of the best places to get information that you feel no one else will have. As one could guess by the title, the Court is filled with, and ruled by, Cats. These are no ordinary animals, but sentient beings who are capable of forming a society and reasoning with others. They also function based on ranking but aren’t as strict in the matter of hierarchy. The Court has four ranks available for their society members: Felas, Cheshires, Toms, and Queens.
- Felas are the most common members of the Cats Court. They can be male or female, they are intelligent and magical, but not nearly as much as their leaders. They are playful and cunning and are usually the ones sent to the market to trade with the Card society. They are looked down upon by most Cards as far as rank goes, but generally enjoy their company as they are non-judgmental and fun-loving. So long as the Cat doesn't display any need to be superior, they tend to get along with Cards quite well, though they can’t interbreed.
- Cheshires are incredibly strange creatures, highly magical, slightly insane, and frightfully odd in their opinions. They have strong magical tendencies and are the only Cats able to obtain a Bipedal form. (No cat can ever become Human). Their faces have very thin, taut skin stretched over their skulls this pulls their lips back in a pantomime of a too-wide smile. This is a relaxed expression for them, though they can close their lips if they so desire.
