Breedings will be a fairly common affair on this site. We know that everyone loves getting more critters, and this is one of the best ways to do just that. As always, some rules and information need to be read before you can produce and enjoy the children of your characters.
Information on Breedings
(1) Breedings will happen once every month or so, when the Admin has time to do so. Nathalia will put up a post declaring breedings to be open and you can reply with which of your characters you would like bred. Everyone who replied will then have their names entered into a randomizer and 3-5 people will be chosen to have their critters bred.
(2) Males and females, of course, can breed; female-female and male-male pairings are also accepted. The entire society is slightly hermaphroditic, making it possible for all genders to breed, though characters do tend to take on the dominant traits of either one gender or the other.
(3) While some characters may choose to take a permanent mate, society does not demand that they do so. In the common view, there is nothing wrong with taking casual partners and it is actually encouraged that you 'test the waters' for a bit before deciding on whether or not to settle down permanently.
(4) You may breed outside of your own critters, meaning that you don't have to own both parents. When you post your reply to the breeding post, put up links to both parents on the forum and mention the name of the player of the other parent so that I know who else to roll genetics from. Make sure that you have their permission first, though!
(5) Every normal breeding has the chance to produce 1-4 babies. This means that if you are breeding with another critter who is not yours and only one child is born, they may get a baby while you don't. It is always a possibility; in such situations, the parent receiving the child is chosen by a coin flip. Getting favors from Queens with one or both parents' points, however, could guarantee you more children. In breedings of two or more, the owner who requested the breeding received first pick, the other owner the second, and if there are more they're taken in a first-second-first-second selection order. This is the default selection method but it could be different for every breeding so long as both owners agree. Occasionally, an 'extra' child will be born to be given away in a contest.
(6) In every breeding, you will have the chance to get mixed breeds and mixed realms (unless the parents are of the same species and/or Realm). For example:
(7) Depending on the rank of the parents, many breedings will have the chance for at least one face card offspring. If the Cards you have mated are both Sevens or lower, it is exceedingly unlikely that a face card will result. Anything above that and the chances become greater, especially if at least one parent is a face card.
Rules for Breedings
(1) Do not rant and/or get upset because you were not chosen for a breeding this round. There will be many more chances in the future and the Admin does not play favorites. When names are entered into the randomizer, I put my own name in randomly as well, thereby making sure that I don't get have an unfair advantage. If someone is randomly chosen twice in a row, I will let it slide; three times in a row and I'll most likely pull their name out and try again for another person.
(2) Almost anything is compatible as a breeding pair, with a few exceptions.
- Breedings between Cards and Other Courts (the Jack's Cort, the Court of Cats, or the Underground Court) is physically impossible. If your suggested breeding pair ignores this rule, the request will in turn be ignored and not entered into the randomizer.
- Aces can only breed with other Aces; otherwise you can consider them sterile. This obstacle could potentially be overcome through RP, but you would have to do some serious convincing and probably spend a good amount of points to do so.
(3) While it is true that the ownership of a one-child breeding is usually decided by coin flip, you can specify in your post who gets the baby if both parties agree. If I see that both agree with the situation, that person will get the baby if there's only one. I will only flip a coin if you can't decide or don't tell me what you want done.

One parent is a Feline from Corvistowne, the other a Horse from Avington. It is quite possible that you could end up with three children; one a Horse from Corvistowne, a Feline from Corvistowne/Avington (so they will have a smattering of both Realm's colors and perhaps antlers), and a Feline/Horse mix. Though this example is a bit extreme, results similar to this are likely when realms and breeds are mixed.
(7) Depending on the rank of the parents, many breedings will have the chance for at least one face card offspring. If the Cards you have mated are both Sevens or lower, it is exceedingly unlikely that a face card will result.
