The skunk uneasily wrung her hands together; so very, very nervous. Their son had asked to met with them. She didn't know why, but she had a feeling it would be very bad. Uneasily, Kelasia glanced towards Theofilus, trying to keep her nerves from showing so blatantly in her eyes. She doubted she could hide it, though; he was an expert at reading her, even now when they seemed to have drifted apart. The child that should have been her pride and joy had made it very apparent he wanted nothing to do with either parent. Why would he set up a meeting? Her heart fluttered in her chest. He was here again and, for once, it wasn't because the guards dragging him back. He was at the Court of Diamonds of his own free will, and chances were high that he would not return to this place again whilst his parents were alive. There was one thing that could change that and he certainly wasn't going to let the Queen and King of Diamonds know about her. He took a deep breath to steady himself and then strode boldly into Theo's office, head held high.

Theofilus was more than a little surprised to have a meeting with his son. Why would his son make a meeting with him? Most of his family got along just fine, and understood that they could walk in when they felt like it. But.... of his son's this one hated him. Why? Theofilus had no idea. He doubted this would be a good meeting at that. He watched Kelasia through his good eye. She was obviously nervous, and he reached out a hand to comfort her. Then his son waltzed in. Head high. Looking well. He was here on his own free will. "Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Why in the name of the suits are you here when you hate both of us so very much?" Theofilus said as he reached up to readjust his eye patch. Theofilus only wanted a happy family, and all that seemed to bring him was pain.

Kel took Theo's hand gratefully, her attention shooting to the door when Tosiek walked in. He was looking. . . well. Very well. It was a relief, though his glasses were different and he was now sporting a very strange hairstyle. Perhaps this could be the start of better relations between! He must have sown his wild oats and was now willing to come in and--
"Let's cut to the chase, shall we? Why in the name of the suits are you here when you hate both of us so very much?"
The skunk flinched visibly, glancing uncertainly towards the Queen before dropping her gaze.
Tosiek's stride hesitated once but he continued closer before staring at one Card than the other. He felt. . . nothing. Towards either of them. It was. . . strange. A relief. Numbing, but he knew it was still lurking there somewhere.
"I'd have to feel something in order to hate you," he said indifferently, ignoring the pained look his mother slid towards him before her gaze flinched away again. He hated her for that and refused to acknowledge it. He hated his father for making her that way.

Is it curler to hate, or is it curler to feel nothing. Theofilus loved all his children, even if they couldn't understand that. He didn't want to be some monster.... but things would never change between him Tosiek. Worst of all things would never change between Tosiek and his mother.
"Is that so?" Theofilus said flatly as he looked at the boy. "Pardon me for my mistake, Tosiek. So, why exactly have you come here?"
Did he really want to know? Something in the sparrow didn't while something else wanted to know. He couldn't comprehend why his own son would hate him--ignore him--so much when he had done nothing but show love an affection. All his other children had turned out to love him. And yet....
Theofilus sighed. His weariness visibly displayed on his face as well as his age. He was getting entirely too old for this.

A flare of hostility surged through the young man at his father's reply and he, once again, thanked the stars above that he had never looked to the man for acceptance. Too many perfect children with the perfect wife and just one little b*@&*(# from the woman who wasn't good enough for him. He didn't need this man and he didn't need the woman who let him walk all over her.
The hurt showed in his eyes, but he refused to let it faze him, instead tossing his head up and smiling cruelly back at his father. "I just thought you might like to know that I'm leaving. Officially. I'm cutting my ties with this family so you need not bother yourself about me anymore."
Kel gasped in shock and dismay, her hands going to cover her mouth as pale blue eyes suddenly swam with tears.
Tosiek swallowed hard at that sight, but refused to give any indication that it bothered him. It didn't. Really. And if he kept telling himself that, he'd believe it just like the vendors down in the City always believed that Thalia really hadn't stolen anything from them.

A sound of dismay escaped Theofilus' mouth where words should have been. Complete and utter distress was all that filled his mind as he looked at the boy standing in front of him. He wanted to completely cut ties from the family? Why would he want to do something like that? Theofilus felt his heart flutter, his hand automatically went to his chest. He shouldn't stress over this. He shouldn't. "Why?" Theofilus asked, glancing over at Kelasia. Of course she was crying. He choked back a distressed sound as he got up to comfort Kelasia. Someone leaned in the door frame. His talons tapped on the the wall as he watched the scene unfold. He could feel anger welling up inside him. Ezekiel took a step into the room, frown on his face. "You know, you really should shut the door when having important meetings."Theofilus ignored him as he pulled a handkerchief and offered to to Kelasia. "Damn Tosiek, you really are still just a brat." Ez said to his half brother as he crossed his arms. "If you came here to cut yourself off from the family, you should have just stayed away like you have been rather than drive a nail in our father's coffin and break your mother's heart. I thought you grew up, but I shouldn't be surprised." "Ezekiel... don't--""Sorry Dad, but I'm not going to sit here and watch people I love destroy each other over petty nonsense."

Kel took the offered handkerchief and quickly turned her face away, trying to pretend that she wasn't such an utter failure that her own son never wanted to talk to her again. When Ez came in, the woman started in surprise and she quickly had to hide her face to keep her further horror from showing. Her heart was break and there was an empty pit where her heart once was. It was bad enough that Theofilus knew the extent of her failure as a mother, but it was like having someone stake her entire being to have Ez, one of Calia and Theo's perfect children, to be aware as well. Did that mean all the children knew? Oh, stars!
Tosiek's ears flattened briefly but it wasn't as though he hadn't expected that sort of statement; he just didn't expect it from Ez of all people. So he took a deep breath and replied, "This is something I had to do for myself and, yes, for them. They can have their blasted closure-- consider me dead or whatever-- and I can have the peace of mind of knowing that I don't have to look over my shoulder everyday for some guard or merc thinking they'll get a bounty for hauling me back out here."

"HA!" Ez said as he shook his head at Tosiek's remark. "You honestly think that Dad would treat you like a child for the rest of your life? He had faith in you. Faith that you would always come back on your own will just to say Hello. But you waltz into the palace come into his office to tell him you're never going to speak with him again! If you wanted to run away and never come back you already had it. He stopped looking for you a long while ago, because of his complete and utter faith in each and every one of his children!"
The sparrow's feathers puffed up in furry. "Dad isn't perfect, but I don't want you blaming him for all your short comings. He lost an eye for us. He lost his freedom for us. And he would lose his life for you even you claim that you've walked out of this family! Why don't you get it that he loves you?"
"And then there's Kelasia. Always hoping for the best, and yet you always treated her like dirt. You take her for granted when she loves you more than life itself."
"I have always loved you, and you've always royally pissed me off with the way you treat Dad and Kel. You are the biggest jackass I have ever had the pleasure of being related to. You'd never do anything for them. Only for you Tosiek. Only for YOU." Something in the room drained of it's color thanks to Ez's jack power.
Theofilus had no words. He simply watched in horror as Ez ranted at his younger brother. He knew better than to interfere with a raging Ez.
Jack's Ability: He is now able to cause the color to leak out of objects when angered to the point where they have absolutely no color...meaning they don't turn white...but become invisible for a full two hours. He cannot control this power fully yet, but time could make it a conscious decision.

The skunk hybrid let Ez have his say because apparently he needed it. They probably all needed it, but it didn't change his own anger at his so-called parents. He tossed his head up, but his brother just kept going and going. "You think I'd make that up?" he tossed back at his brother, which might not have been the best response if Ez had any idea of what he'd been doing over the years-- namely, lying constantly to cover for Thalia's escapades. "A big, public, official break will make sure people know that they won't cover any fees or expenses to haul me back and it bloody should make sure the mercenary-minded will leave me the snot alone. Yeah, fine, say it's all about me and maybe it is! Maybe I would like to just be able to get on with my own life."
He paused to catch his breath, trying to continue in a calm manner, calling upon his practice on the streets that allowed him to smooth talk a raging vendor or ticked off mama. "He's nowhere near perfect and I don't want his influence in my life anymore." He couldn't look at his mother, not when he had only biting, angry words for her. So he ignored her instead, ignored her like everyone else in her life did.
Kel gave a small, negative headshake at her only full son's words and tried to battle them by sheer will. That wasn't how things were! She knew he didn't understand his parents, but. . . they deserved another chance, right? She couldn't get her own words out and when he blatantly ignored even Ez's reference to her part in his life, it was like her tiny bit of hope that they repair this relationship simply withered away.
She was useless.

"Perhaps the mercenaries are after you for some other reason," Ez said flatly as he looked at his brother. The sparrow as still filled with rage, and Tosiek's comment didn't help. Nothing really helped Ezekiel when he was raging, everything just proved to make it worse. "You can never escape the family."
There was something dark in the sparrow's voice when he spoke, his eyes narrowed at the younger man. "No matter how hard you try we will always be there even if you deny us."
"Ezeikiel, stop that!" Theofilus said as he stared at his son wide eyed. "You're being utterly ridiculous. If he wants to leave he can leave. He has is own free will."
Ez shot his father a withering glare.
Theofilus cleared is throat. "Tosiek. You left a long time ago, so I'm not surprised that you want to take no part in the family. I haven't had anyone looking for you in a long while, so you don't have to worry about that. I just hope.... that one day you'll come back. But please, no matter what, don't have any bitterness towards the rest of the family, or your mother."
