...bizarre family. Really, truly bizarre children. What the hell? If she'd acted like that in public, her mother would have removed her from the scene immediately. At least the wayward sibling had been found? Donnie stared at the lot of them as they ran amok in the lobby, eventually turning her attention to the young human girl who was clapping for her performance.
What an elegant outfit for a child. Her face was genuinely delighted, which made Donnie grin in response, large wolverine teeth glinting in the bright light of the hotel lobby. "Well, thank you very much. I'm glad to see the lure worked to bring your brother back to the group. Your sister gave me an apple in exchange."
Those eyes were really quite stunning, especially on a pretty little girl. She was going to break hearts when she got older. "Tell me, though, what are the lot of you doing running around here without a guardian? That seems like a recipe for problems to me."

Tegan shook her head and gave a lick to the boy's head. However, Sasha's imagination and games always sent little Andrei into a whirlwind of excitement. "YOU'LL NEVER GET MY SECRETS, EVIL SNOW BARONESS!" he screeched suddenly, rolling onto his back to grab at her with his feet. Tegan edged away from him with an annoyed look on her face. So much for a show of affection. "Our older brother was supposed to watch over us, but he left them in my care so he could oggle some girl," she stated bluntly, not seeming to realize this was probably not the best of things to say to a buff Yarrow chick. Almost as if on cue, Hadrian came barreling around to the street where the hotel was. Their scent... their scent is this way, oh GOD Mom and Dad are going to kill me! he thought frantically to himself. All he was doing was giving a chick directions... then he let himself get distracted. He felt absolutely sick with himself. He vowed that if anything happened to those kids, he would castrate himself. The smell was stronger! He charged right into the front doors of the hotel, forcing some people to rush out of his way. One person, in an attempt to get the hell out of the large, thickly built, charging Solandrian jump into another person, sending about five bipeds into a domino effect. Nice. THERE THEY WERE! "KIDS!" he barked, coming to a very sudden halt in front of them. He was panting and completely out of breath, "I...told you...huffhuff to. stay. put..." he gasped suddenly and looked behind him for Nikolai. The Spade should've been able to keep up...

The human child beamed up at the woman. "She did? Her apples are really good, even when she makes them out of weird things. I don't like apples as much, but that's probably cause me and Hady are the only ones without any bat. They're still nice, though." Those glimmering eyes seemed to look the woman over for a second, as quickly as she could manage without being rude. "Oh! I'm Raina. Sorry my brothers are so weird." Even if her brothers were misrable at it, Raina knew what it meant to be proper. When the girl saw Donnie's rank marking, however, a delighted peal of laughter escaped from her. "You're a King of Spades, just like me!"
Sascha jumped up and down in place as his brother tried to wrestle their older sister, seemingly oblivious to both Tegan and the Wolverine's displeasure at their behavior. They were a chain of events, the two brothers, feeding their own energy with each other's until they were unstoppable. Well. Unstoppable by anyone who wasn't their own exhaustion. All the same, the eagle-bat stopped his bouncing and turned back to look at the stranger who had gained his attention earlier in the evening.
He moved over to the woman, standing beside her sister, and blinked owlishly at her. Raina's expression faltered for a second and the girl sighed. She was having fun talking to the woman...
"I heard my mom say once that he thinks with his loins," he said in response to Tegan's comment. He paused a second, expression deadly serious. "I don't know what that means."
Luckily, he was torn from this train of thought a second later by the return of his elder brother. "HADY!" he screeched, the sound a noise that only a child could make, and set off at his brother at a cheerful pace. He lunged at the older man, using the thumbs of his wing to hold onto the Solandrian's thick fur, funny little tail twitching happily. But... something was missing. Nik! Where was Nik?! Hadn't he followed Hadrian to see the pretty lady? The hybrid quickly untangled himself from Hadrian's coat, dropping to the ground and standing beside Andrei.
"The Snow Baroness has kidnapped our brother," he said softly, looking around cautiously. He turned to look at Hadrian, beaming. Some of his fur was discolored from the cut he'd given himself earlier, but he didn't seem to mind. "Don't worry, Hady! We'll find Nik! Oh, it's nice to meet you, Miss Pretty-Music-Lady!" he declared.

Donnie's eyes narrowed in sharp disapproval when the girl mentioned where their guardian had wandered off to. Older brother. What kind of parents would leave such a large and rambunctious group of children under the charge of an older brother?! That was like asking for a police report and a hospital visit! She watched the gaggle squeal and screech their way across the floor, small ears flicking back at one of the child's comment. The mother knew this and still saw fit to leave the brother in 'charge'? Lovely.
"Raina, it's a pleasure to meet you, and your brothers as well, I suppose. Also a delight to hear that you're a King of Spades." Her darkening expression lightened briefly at mention of the girl's rank. "I'll be off to the Court soon, so wish me luck on earning a title, alright?"
And then... ah, and then the brother turned up. Donnie turned to face him with the full force of a Yarrow Glare, yellow eyes staring straight at him. "Well, and at last the guardian arrives. What the hell do you think you were doing chasing skirts when you have an entire pack of children under your care, boy?!" Her voice changed from frigid to heated in the span of two sentences, ending on a louder growl. Those teeth weren't just for show. He looked to be more brawn than brains anyway, more the pity. "What an absolutely pathetic excuse for babysitting. Were you going to wander off while they were potentially kidnapped or injured? If you need a woman to pay attention to something, believe me, you're about to be riveted."
She stood up, taking advantage of the height difference between his animal form and her biped, and absently placed her harp on her chair. Then she cracked her knuckles. Menacingly. Yeah, she was laying it on a little thick, but maybe it would get the point across. Besides, it was kind of fun. Stupid hormonal male.

A Yarrow. Of all the people for the children to swarm around the one time this happened, it had to be a big, burly Yarrow.
"No!" he said quite firmly as Sasha and Andrei tried to make their way off again to search for Nikolai. The boy was right behind him. He was a Spade. He was fast. He would be right behind him, he knew it. On top of that, he didn't need them running off again. Not now, not ever. If they ignored him, the vines on his bracer would reach out and gently form a barrier in front of them. "Sasha, come here, you cut yourself again..." Poor kid.... but he had bigger problems on his plate right now.
The woman spoke. Hadrian's ears practically slammed down onto skull, as flat as they could be, his tail pressed up against his belly, and his back arched. She was right. Every word of it. He was an abysmal babysitter and a pathetic excuse for a guardian. He swallowed to keep a whimper from escaping his throat. He desperately searched for words. He didn't dare try to defend himself. There was no excuse for what he'd done. They could've been kidnapped. Children of such high rank? He didn't doubt there were people out there looking for a ransom. And Raina... she would probably get the worst of it, being the ever so rare Human child. The woman towered over him.
"Tegan," he said quietly, not taking his eyes off the woman. Tegan tilted her head at him, wondering why he was calling for her. This was his problem, not hers. "Take the vial with Sasha's ointment and makes sure he gets it put on his cut. Get those two both back where Raina is." Raina was in his sight, the boys were not. Shrugging, Tegan did as she was instructed and herded the two boys back to the chairs with the vial that was once tied around Hadrian's waist in her mouth.
"There's no excuse for what I did," he said in a somewhat shaky voice, "I know this. I..." words escaped him. One thing he'd always had to his benefit to compensate for his lack of eloquence was a very expressive and genuine face. It was something that got him over other people's suspicion of him being Solandrian for the most part. When he felt something, he generally had trouble hiding it. He felt sick with himself, he hated himself for putting his sister and half-siblings in danger like that.
Tegan and Andrei watched with interest, but for slightly different reasons. They both saw Hadrian as strong. They'd seen him spar with Mom and Dad and had ridden on his back whilst he carried at least 3 others of their child relative on his back, but here he was cowering before a stranger. Andrei was horrified, Tegan was half amused.

At least there seemed to be some measure of intelligence gleaming through the muscle, from the way he backpedaled and shrunk in on himself. Trying to make himself look bigger in this situation would have been the worst thing possible. As it was, he seemed to be having trouble getting words out. What, had he never been brought to task before?
"No, there's no excuse, and it's good to see that you have enough braincells to rub together to recognize that fact. Even if your mother was foolish enough to leave you in charge, as your sister mentioned, you found them. Unharmed. This time." The last two words were growled between sharp teeth. "If this is how responsible you are towards siblings, I hope for the sake of your someday mate that you never have your own."
She relaxed her stance somewhat, changing the Death Glare to a more moderate Reproachful Glance. "Honestly, and you wonder why Yarrows question the intelligence of your gender."

The human child considered the woman for a second, then smiled from ear to ear. "I bet you'll do great there. My papa's told me that the court needs a makeover so it can really be impressive again." it was the kind of statement that a child could listen to and repeat perfectly, understanding very little of what was actually said. In this case, Raina believed that the court needed an actual makeover, and she'd heard about it being a dark place - the Yarrow hybrid would be the perfect splash of color, she was sure.
Sascha's ears panned back and he jutted his lower lip out slightly, careful of the sharp edge of his beak. He was having a grand time playing with his brother in this new and exciting place, and he really didn't want to just sit back and behave while his older brother attempted to make nice with the angry-looking woman. He really didn't want to get the ointment put on, either. Sure, it helped heal his lip, but it also stung terribly when first applied.
"Haaaaadyyyyyyy," he whimpered, but did as he was told and sulkingly moved over towards his two sisters. Once the ointment was applied he began to look around once more, seeking out something fun to occupy his time, but he was quickly distracted by the exchange that went on between Hadrian and Donnie. Well. That was interesting. He leaned forward ever so slightly, his ears panning forward in an interest that was anything /but/ subtle.
Raina, standing beside him, covered her mouth with a slender hand to hide her awe and amusement. The way the powerful woman bristled and spoke so quickly and cleverly... It reminded her of her father and adopted mother in many ways. "She's awesome," Raina declared after a moment, nodding to herself.
"A little scary, I think," Sascha replied, turning brown eyes on his sister. He silently hoped that she wasn't going to be like that when she was older.
"But still awesome."

When his older brother, Hadrian, had paused in order to give a pretty nice looking female directions Nikolai had fallen back instead. The pretty lady had seemed like she was lost and truly needed the help. He had gotten distracted by a display presenting the newest additions of sweets to a shop and when he had bothered looking back he had spotted that his brother was no longer around. In fact it was the flash of a tail as it turned the corner that had him following after in a run. His double wings folded back at an angle and his head tucked, making himself as aerodynamic as possible he had followed after his brother. As fate would have it however, upon passing another shop he had found cause to double back. This shop instead had mirrors on display, and he had been distracted - having spotted his reflection - by the realization that all the running had messed up the newest arrangement he had designed for his mane. After having fixed the problem he had quickly set out again, this time in more of a hurry to catch up with his family. Reaching the hotel he made a mad dash inside, bent over as he was out of breath. "Sorry . . . sweets . . . mirrors . . . here now."

Hadrian waited until she took a long enough pause in her rant at him before even daring to open his mouth to speak. He wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning he didn't plan on having children, nor did he doubt the Yarrow mistrust of men to a small extent. Hell, he preferred the company of females himself since he tended to respect women more than he did men. However, he had the feeling this woman did not only not need his life story, but she probably wouldn't believe it, either. He just nodded. The sooner she went away, the sooner he could make up his blunder to the people it really mattered to.
When Nikolai finally showed up, he nuzzled the out-of-breath Highlander, "Go wait with your siblings, I'll be right there," he told him. He looked back up at the woman, desperately wishing to ask her if she was done, but quite fearful of how she might react to that.
Tegan nodded at Raina.
"Yeah. She's really awesome," she agreed. Andrei snapped his head around to look at his older half-sister. This lady was NOT awesome, she was yelling at big older brother! Girls were mean.

As yet another child popped in through the doorway, apparently trailing behind the canine, Donnie rolled her eyes and forced some of her hackles to settle. "Yes, fine. You obviously have your hands full. Assigning that many children to one chaperon is ridiculous anyway. Why don't you go tend to them now and leave me be? I've had enough of you."
She took a few steps away from the Solandrian male, leaning over to pick up her harp and resettle herself in her seat. Pointedly not looking at him, she plucked a few notes on its strings, and then began to play something quiet and complicated. Hopefully the intricate series of notes would distract her sufficiently and she wouldn't be tempted to give the male another reaming.
Gah, so many children. She liked kids, but having to watch that many? She would probably put them all on leashes and tie them together. Well, maybe not. It was an entertaining mental image, though. Pretty little Highland mixes. Too bad most of them were probably male.
