((360: how far Minh can twist her spine, or one very smexy fire mouse. Am I clever or what? xD;))Minh had never been very good at waiting. She fiddled with her goggles—she’d forgotten to take them off when she had left the house; she’d forgotten to change, too, which might have been why the guards had been giving her funny looks; she was very rumpled—and half-heartedly watched dust float about in the weak light filtering in through the windows. She’d had a reason for coming, and it had seemed very important at the time, but now that she was here she couldn’t quite remember what it was. Waiting seemed to have stolen her purpose, and her energy. She slumped further down in the comfortable-looking but distinctly uncomfortable-feeling chair. The secretary-type who had taken her name had assured her that the Queen was terribly busy and couldn’t possibly see her today, tomorrow, or even next week—“No appointment? No appointment? Hah!”—but she had insisted, and he’d stuck her in this little room while he went to find someone that could “assist” her. She honestly didn’t understand these court types; they were all a bunch of loons. Nevertheless—Minh waited.

((You are amazingly clever and it's so true XD; Poor cat and mouse and the games we play)) Things had picked up speed around the Court of Clubs it seemed, though if one looked at their records they would see that things were going at the same demand as usual, the mouse thought to himself as he made his way hurriedly down the corridor. They were still undermanned and the mouse was not sure what to do about it - short of going out there and picking people up himself. And now he was going to be late. Just chippy. He had yet another meeting that was going to last all day with other countless task screaming for his attention. Propping his cane on the bend of his elbow he was just reaching for the door to his office when his secretary came rushing toward him, bowing and spewing all the necessaries of title and job. "I am sorry Your Majesty. Short of throwing her out physically I could not get her to leave. She even came in here without an appointment and just demanded to see you!" "Not now, I am late enough as it is." He replied ignoring what had been said and waving a hand to dismiss the man. Yanking the door open he stopped short when he saw that there was someone occupying the room. Just about to demand who had let someone looking like . . . well that into his office. It was as he started to take in her appearance, recognition coming slowly to the mouse, that he found he could only stand there and simply stare as if he could not believe his eyes. "Minh?"

Minh slid to her feet, feeling ridiculously awkward. She’d forgotten the height difference, and was suddenly all too aware of her own lanky, rumpled appearance. He looked good, if a little frazzled around the edges. Stress, maybe. In comparison, she was in sorry shape.
“Uhm, hi,” she bit her lip, unsure, “You’re probably busy.”
“Of course he’s busy, you cretin!” secretary-typed squawked, “Show some respect to your betters!” Minh, who had never taken well to authoritative figures, had to fight the impulse to snarl; he certainly wasn’t her better, and she was damned if she was going to bow and scrape for anyone. It was too bad they weren’t in a different setting—she would have liked to give secretary-type a piece of her mind.
Remembering herself, she took a shaky breath and tried to calm down. Secretary-type wasn’t worth the time of day, and she would have normally brushed him off like the annoying little insect he was, but--as much as it pissed her off, secretary-type was right. Ader lived an entirely different life now—he was Queen, for gods’ sake. She really should have made an appointment; she wasn’t part of his life anymore.

He could only stare. It had been a while since he had seen her. Over the years time had slowly split them apart. While he had tried to visit her as often as he could her own work had distracted her - as it usually did - and the attempts at seeing her had dwindled to almost nothing.
"Uh . . . Hi." He replied originally. Turning to his secretary he pulled himself up to his full height, effectively pulling rank to make up for any difference to give orders before dismissing the man with a wave of his hand. "Give my apologies to those who are awaiting my presence. Reschedule the meeting for sometime tomorrow, then have drinks delivered."
Turning back to Minh he motioned for her to retake a seat before dropping himself in the one next to it. He shifted a little, trying to make himself more comfortable. These seats really were not as comfortable as they looked, he thought with a small grimace.
"Long time no see. So wot . . . uh . . . brings you here?" He hoped he did not look as nervous as he felt. It was almost like he was facing a first crush all over again.

Minh watched secretary-type huff off to complete his task, completely incensed it would seem, before she turned her attention to the man sitting next to her; she didn’t know how she felt about him being so close. He smelled nice, like she remembered, and she took a shaky breath.
He didn’t look completely comfortable, and all the things that she wanted to say stuck in her throat. Did he even want to see her? Why would he? She had been so busy with things--though with what she couldn’t recall, which spoke volumes in retrospect--and eventually he had stopped coming around. He might have been sweet to her, but he had never made her any promises, and she hadn’t asked for any. There was no reason for her to be upset with him for moving on with his life.
She struggled for something to say that wouldn‘t make her look a total fool--what had she come here for; it had seemed so important--and blurted out the first thing that came to mind, throwing it up between them like a shield.
“Have you seen Hadyn?”

Depending on what she was wanting to talk about he was almost hoping that they would be able to move somewhere more comfortable since just the short time he had spent in the chairs were already making his back stiffen.
But if she was not here to catch up on old times, would that not cause awkwardness? Another part offered causing the mouse to shift uncomfortably again. He suddenly found that he was actually hoping that she had come to see him but was afraid he might be dreaming a little too hard.
Torn between expectation and wanting he was taken off guard at her explanation.
Eyes widening he sat up straight in his chair. "I have not seen him since . . . Has something happened to him?" While the two of them had, unfortunately, never really been able to see eye to eye and in consequence had constantly had fights, he still loved and worried about his son.
Especially since the day that they had parted. The 'failure' to his first son still weighed heavily in his mind.

Minh winced; she had never had a lot of tact and she hadn’t even stopped to consider what Aderlass would think if she showed up out of the blue for the first time in years inquiring the whereabouts of their son. There was no reason to think anything had happened--Hadyn had always been rather solitary, and prone to disappearing for days and weeks at a time--but it had been nearly two years, now, without a word. He hadn’t even snuck home to pilfer explosives (and she kept an extra stash just so he could.)
She frowned, caught up in her thoughts, “I don’t know. It’s probably nothing.” The last time she had seen him, he had just seemed so--haunted; granted, it could have been because Thalia was hanging off of him at the time. She shook her head, “Sorry to worry you for nothing.”

He was not completely sure that he should believe what she said. After all, probably nothing did not really fit their son. Probably something, on the other hand, would.
"Do not be silly, Minh, of course it is not simply worrying over 'nothing'." Just because it had been a while since he had last seen (or thought) about the boy did not neglect the worthiness of the boy. Frowning slightly he asked, "When was the last time that you saw the boy?"
The mouse found that he had to think really hard to answer that question himself. The answer that he had arrived to was an iffy one at best on time estimation. What had his son been up to all these years? He was almost afraid to know the answer.
"You did not get another bail note from him, did you?"

Guilt did not sit well with Minh--it was not an emotion she was used to entertaining, and it left her with a slightly queasy feeling in her stomach--but whatever twinge of remorse she might have been feeling for bothering Aderlass with trifles evaporated at his insinuation. Indignation was a much better emotion than guilt.
"Hadyn doesn't just get in to trouble, I'll have you know." Mostly, he did just get into trouble--Hadyn was bright, and prone to mischief when not properly stimulated--but Minh resented that Aderlass thought so little of their son. He wasn't a bad kid, he just needed--guidance. The male variety, that Aderlass hadn't bothered to provide.
Minh refused to acknowledge that her own failings might have been to blame for Hadyn's lack of direction; she had done as much for him as she could. Teaching him how to safely handle the volatile chemicals he was so fond of tinkering with and showing him how to stay one step ahead of the law were important life lessons, she felt. What had his father ever done?

The Queen was a little puzzled on how to handle the situation. Though, considering the familial part of this conversation it was probably more accurate that the mouse, himself, was not sure what to do.
"No," he agreed, "our Hadyn never simply got into trouble. Nothing with that boy was even done on a low key. If he was going to do something, he seemed to do the most damage that he could manage before getting caught." There had been quite a few times that he had been the one to open the door and have the police return their son, along with a lecture of how parents should have more control over their children.
He felt the blame was to be placed on both and yet neither of their necks. After all there was nothing in specific that they had done to result in the way he had turned out, then again they probably had not done what was needed for it to be stopped.
"We both tried to do our best for that boy." His voice was tough, as if he was trying to hold anger in, the slightest bit of sarcasm dribbled past his attempts.
