Minh snorted, not caring in the least if she pissed the man off. He could delude himself all he wanted, but deep down both he and she knew it for what it really was, and that was bullshit. To be fair, he’d done fine by Elyse, but he and his son had never really understood each other, and Aderlass had never made much of an effort to remedy that. Instead, he’d wandered off and knocked up half a dozen others.
She would have liked to pretend that she was angry simply for Hadyn’s sake, but if she were honest with herself, she knew that wasn’t entirely true. It--hurt--that Aderlass had moved on with his life without any regard for his first family; not that they’d been much of a family, she thought bitterly. Minh knew she was partially to blame--she’d been busy, and her work had been important--but he’d given up. On all of them.

Glancing over at Minh he tried to figure out what she was thinking. Though it took him a moment, from past experiences he could tell that she was definitely annoyed about something. Thinking he knew what it was about he decided to change the topic. After all, there was not much presently that just the two of them could do about their son. Not to mention the male was now more than an adult and was responsible of his own life and actions now.
"So . . . How has everything been for you?" He had gotten small reports over the years from Elyse about what Minh had been up to of late. Or at least what either of them could gather about the elusive feline.
A lot had definitely changed over the many years that now separated them from those of when their first children had been born. Silently he had to admit to himself that he missed, and even longed, for them some days.

Minh was glad for the distraction, though part of her wanted the fight they were toeing around, wanted an outlet for the anger and disappointment and loneliness. Instead, she let it go; shrugged.
"Busy, I suppose. Working on various projects. Raising--" she paused, vaguely uncomfortable discussing the child she'd had with Mnem (the quantity of alcohol and drugs involved in her conception a mute point) with her ex, "raising Thalia. The kid is a handful." And she really was; Thalia fired on different cylinders than the rest of the known universe, and it had made raising her a--unique--experience.
"And you? Enjoying the high life?" she made a vague gesture at the stuffy office. Honestly, she couldn't understand the draw. Who would willingly associate with a bunch of power-hungry imbeciles, all constantly vying for attention and trying to forward their own agendas? Minh would have slipped something into their tea after the first week; maybe the first day.
