"But I told you," he said reasonably. "I don't want to. You'll have to provide a better reason than that. Grandmother is very strong about proper reasoning being provided, because she says that she's surrounded by irrational imbeciles all the time." Well, she said quite a bit more than that, but he wasn't supposed to understand that sort of language, and so he pretended that he wasn't listening until she was done. Then it was okay to talk to her again, and he could always go to some of the guards around the Court who loved it when a kid came up to them and asked them just what such-and-such a word meant. Even if they didn't tell him the exact meaning, he could usually get enough of a sense of it to understand.
"So?" His long tail curled around in the air, a lock of dark hair negligently falling into one eye. "Are you going to give me a better reason to go away? Because if you don't, I'm going to stay right here with you." So there.

Have you not been taught to respect your superiors? Honestly, I hope you don't talk to your Queen this way .... I'm sure she'd make a nice little rug out of your strange little hide.
His ears were still back, his tail and muscles were still stiff and, yes, he was growing steadily more frustrated with the situation. Of course his mind never once slipped to the fact that as a child he was just like this and, even today, he continued to act like this with his mother ... a constant, stubborn thorn in the man's side. Nope, this was different .... this was someone annoying him and that just wouldn't do.
He sighed, not being able to think of any better argument beyond the fact that he wished to be left alone. The kid had an opportunity here to ruin his nice little arrangement he had going with his otter ... and he didn't want to ruin that. Fine, whatever ... he'd deal with it.
What do you want anyhow?
