She looked at the piece of paper she held in her hand once again before she glanced up to scan the bookshelves around her. It should be . . . right here. She scanned the spines of the books before her not seeing the title she needed. Confused, she tilted her head the side, blinking a few times. If it was not here then where could it be? she wondered to herself. She glanced at the paper again. The Secrets of Plants she read. She had stumbled across the title when reading another of her books on plants and she was hoping to find it here in the library. She glanced around the shelves once again, trying to see if maybe it had been placed somewhere else. When she was pretty sure that it was indeed not in this shelving area she headed out into the main area of the library. Maybe she could find someone to help her look.

He just couldn't help himself. The bat was sitting, cross-legged, and flipping through the pages of a rather thick novel about the Bog. His brows knitted as he scanned each page, quite obviously trying to speed-read everything he could before someone asked him to either check the book out or leave. He was obviously very deeply absorbed in the reading of it, and his huge ears hardly even twitched as the young Corvistownian turned the corner. He was so absorbed, in fact, that she could have stumbled into him and he would have hardly even flinched. That was, until he looked away from the book to stretch, wings flaring out slightly, and the hybrid caught his eye. Oh no, not children, please please no children... But then, she was pretty little. He could probably outrun her if it came down to it. So instead, he tried his best to smile. It wouldn't kill him to be nice just once. Would it?

As she exited from the bookshelf-alley looking one way she stumbled slightly over the foot of someone who seemed to be flipping through a book, oblivious to his direct surroundings.
Catching herself before she fell, she looked up at him with wide eyes. Taking in his markings and wings, she gave him a bright smile she greeted him, “Hello. Sorry for stumbling across you like that. I hope that I did not disturb you from your reading any?”
“I do not want to disturb you any if you are busy, but would you mind helping me look for this book? It should have been back there . . . but I did not see it.” She pointed back towards where she had just come from. She did not want to bother the bat if he was busy, but maybe he could help her look for the book she was seeking?

Seth looked horribly awkward as the child began to walk closer to him, ears flattening as his smile slowly began to fade. Was she paying any attention at all to what was going on? He was already feeling rather frustrated by his attempts at getting any information out of the dry-as-toast novel, and now his attempt at kindness was being ignored?! Fine, then. He didn't need her appreciation, anyway, he never did and never would. She was probably just some punk-kid who wanted money or something from him. He wouldn't have any of that. He turned back to reading, eyes narrowed in concentration.
And then she tripped over him.
He hissed with surprise as he scrambled away from the little mousecat, an expression of indignation flaring up in his eyes. His book fell from his wings, closing on itself, and the bat screeched at the sight. And then! Then she had the nerve to ask a favor of him!
"Are you blind or something?! I'm a huge freakin' blue thing! And this book is awful and now I'll never find my place again![/b]" he exclaimed, fur bristling. Maybe his reaction was a little extreme, but he was a mass of frustration and was ready to explode. Poor Elyse just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. "And no, I don't want to help you! If you weren't so blind and short, maybe you could do it yourself![/b]"
Okay, that was just dumb. Seth wasn't going for skill, though.

She tilted her head at him. Well that was quite a change in attitude, not to say that she was not completely unused to it. She had had lots of practice with her siblings.
“You are not really a ’huge freakin' blue thing’” She replied. “You are more a, huge freakin’ brown thing, really.” She did not say any of it sarcastically, just in a tone that was stating the obvious. “A~nd, if that book was so awful then why were you reading it, huh? You are sure to find you place in it again, if you look.”
She just eyed him for a long moment, watching his fur bristle in agitation. Well this was a situation easily handled. “You are blinder then me if you think I am. Thanks for your help.” She started off again in the direction she had been heading before, this time being careful not to trip on him.

(( Hope you don't mind if I slip in <3 )) The library was, actually, quite uninhabited today, but there was at least one other creature stirring within it's walls. She'd been near the section the young rodent had been questioning, doing her own research, but more so researching what had been discovered about her own kind's rather unfortunate affliction. Since she'd come to the city she'd realized that not everyone possessed the leprous disease in question and she was on a quest to find out why she was different, or rather why her people were different. She was attracted by the sudden, somewhat loud voice of another, male, and, had she still had her ears she would have perked them interest. It really wasn't often that someone disturbed the peace here, especially on a slow day. Thus, her curiosity snagged, the canine padded over to where she'd heard the noise and shot the bat a rather accusing stare once she'd noticed that the one he'd grumbled at was, indeed a child. As the girl approached her she gave her a rather warm smile, those beautiful blue eyes shining brightly. I might be able to help you, if you'd like. We could leave Mr. Grouchy here behind.

The bat's displeasure was a tangible thing, and his ears flattened rather severely against his skull, hair still bristling. This little brat had a lot of nerve, dismissing him as she did! Couldn't she tell that he was QUITE UPSET?! Granted, it wasn't necisarily her fault that she was, but he needed someone to take his rage out on. As far as he was concerned, a child was not deserving of kindness that he wouldn't even give to an adult. "Fine, then.[/b]" he hissed. "A huge freakin' brown thing with blue ACCENTS.[/b]" He could argue all day, if she gave him the opportunity!
"Maybe I'm reading this book because SOME people are so freaking SECRETIVE that it's the only way I can learn ANYTHING about them![/b]" ooooh, she seemed to have finally found what it was that was bothering him most. But then she was leaving, and Seth felt his anger begin to fade. He wasn't, however, going to let the little hybrid simply leave, and as she began to walk away, he followed after her. "At least I have a reason to be blind. You're looking for plant stuff? Why in the name of all that's good would you bother with that?[/b]"
And then the Lowlander appeared. Seth's lip curled slightly, and he narrowed his eyes at her. "I have it under control. Wouldn't want some of your skin to fall off on the pages. They'll make you pay to replace that.[/b]" No, he didn't like Lowlanders. Not in the slightest, and especially not ones that gave him looks. It just didn't agree with him, and that was written all over his face.
((Sorry for the mean, Kitty >>; ))

Liv had been listening to the whole event, very angry at the bat for being so rude to the child. She was about to step in herself if the Lowlander hadn't. Granted, while she didn't absolutely hate the Lowlanders, they did make her a little uncomfortable, but that was only because of the open sores thing. She inwardly cheered the Lowlander on when she stepped in and called the bat "Mr. Grouchy" and backed up the kid. Then the bat said something that stuck with her. A secretive person? She looked at the thick brick of a book he was reading. Well no wonder he was irritated! She read the title from her distance, it was probably as dry as a bone as far as interest. He was reading it to find stuff out about someone? He was probably a nice person [BWAHAHA] just having a bad day. She walked out to the group and picked up the book and handed it to him. "Here you go," she smiled.

The mouse looked around a little confused at all the attention they were receiving. She had thought that she had had the situation under control. She was thankful that they were so willing to help her out; she just was not sure what to make of the attention.
“Uh . . . well . . . thanks . . . but,” she stuttered.
She looked at the Lowlander, confused about her condition. It was not normal, as far as she was aware, to have things falling off. He did not seem to act like he had a fatal disease or anything. She was thankful for her offer of help tough.
She turned to face the male who had followed her. He only seemed to be a bad mood, something she had encountered many times with her other siblings, especially Ira, Eir, and Hadyn.
And now there was another newcomer. She simply did not know what to do or make of the situation.

And then there was a badger there as well, and Seth's ear twitched as he took the book from her. "Uhhh.. Thanks.[/b]" he scowled down at the heavy volume, slipping it into his bag. Might as well bring it home with him. He clearly wasn't going to get any reading done here. He stared at her for a minute longer. "Do you.. need something or something?[/b]" he asked rather lamely. People didn't help you for no reason, but he was distracted by the sound of the hybrid speaking again.
Seth was, in truth, delighted with the miniature Corvie's response. Maybe she wasn't as bad as he'd thought before. He couldn't blame her feeling at least a little nervous because of the rotting canine that was standing before them. He moved forward and stood behind her in what could possibly be seen as a slightly protective stance.
If he hadn't been yelling at her a moment before, that is.
"She doesn't want your help.[/b]" he stated in a flat voice. "Who knows what kind of disease you're carrying? Would be a shame for her to lose her pretty coat at such a young age because of the rot of some stranger.[/b]" he knew he was being overly harsh, but he couldn't help himself. He was just a harsh person, when it really came down to it. He glanced down at the mousecat, giving her a reassuring sort of a grin. He'd handle this situation.
