Two long years had passed since Cecilia had first given birth to the small bundle of white and blue fur that was her daughter. The fact that it appeared predominantly Selkie was quite possibly the only reason Cecilia had endured the torture of staying home and being a Mother. If it had been anything else, she would've done away with it as soon as she could. As it was the miserable infant was trying all of her nerves. How she had even kept this long was a miracle. That it had survived her 'mothering' was an even greater surprise and most probably had to do with Ez helping her out a great deal. More and more it seemed like the sparrow was the only thing keeping her sanity together. Currently, Isolde lay asleep in her crib and Cecilia was out in the living room, quietly sipping some tea and taking advantage of the rare hush within the house. She'd managed to mold her physique back to its previous grandeur but she was still so stressed by the child's near constant crying that she couldn't even begin to go back to her usual routine.

Maxwell had left Solo and Xylia back at their apartment, preparing to go on a trip out to Torquehelm to check and make sure that no one there had any idea of where his missing son had gone. His missing daughter he was used to - he was just happy if Helen checked in somewhere once a month - but it was so out of character for Seki to vanish! So worried was he, that the normally horrifically-polite feline could barely mutter out apologies when he bumped into the occasional other pedestrian on the way to Cecilia's home. When he finally arrived, he'd managed to calm himself down at least a little bit, to the point where he wasn't in immediate danger of panicking as soon as he saw his daughter. Taking a deep breath, he held it for a second, and then let it go with a whoosh, attempting to relax his muscles. At least this particular trip meant that he got to see little baby Isolde - his granddaughter! Lifting a paw, he knocked courteously at Cecilia's door, and hoped that she was home and not out doing...whatever it was that she was doing.

Cecilia flinched breifly and then let out a great, heaving sigh of relief. Oh thank the suits for company! For a distraction at last!
She lifted up swiftly, hurrying to the door and pulling it open with a lovely smile. Her usual array of bedazzling jewelry was put away for the time being, reduced to merely her choker and the two bracelets n her arms. Well, aside from her bindings, of course. The Torque had hoped for a moment that it would be her dear friend, Ezekiel, but the sight of her Mother was just as delightful a sight.
"Mom!"
Cecilia swiftly hurried forward and embraced her mother before pulling back and motioning him inside. "Come in, come in! I wasn't expecting you, I'm sorry if things are a mess." She furrowed her brow in frustration and let out a miserable sigh. "Isolde is asleep at the moment, so we'll have a bit of peace."

Maxwell could only grin at his daughter as her expression turned from the lovely, practiced smile for guests to something a lot more natural. Of course, it was hard to put on major facades for someone who had given birth to you, and really, what was the need of it? He balanced on his hind legs to give her a hug in return, and absently wondered just how many of his children would be walking on two legs before he himself figured out the trick of it. Cecilia and Seki already had it, and that wasn't counting Ophelia's other children as well - Xylia, Severus, and Mephitisia were already Bipedal too.
"Hello there, Cecilia-love," he said warmly as he embraced her. Following her into her home, he made sure to step lightly, especially after the mention that his granddaughter was asleep. "I don't mind the mess in the least. I know what it's like to have children around, making a mess of things," Maxwell said, and then grinned at her. "Of course, you were rarely the cause of those messes, so you never had to deal with the aftermath."
He tilted his head at her, looking her over closely; she looked...tired. Very tired, and worn down, and not at all his happy Cecilia. "Are you alright, sweetling?" He'd get around to asking about Seki in a moment, he really would.

Isolde opened her eyes slowly, searching for the familiar face.... no one. There was no one. Where was Cilia? Oh god, I hope she didn't leave again. Fearing the worst Isolde did what any child would do... she bawled her eyes out. She cried and carried on so fierce that it would have been a miracle for no one to hear her; but then again that was the point, huh? "'CILIAAAAAAAAAA" She cried hoping that the woman who was supposedly her mother would answer. Suddenly she heard a voice she didn't recognize, though that wasn't saying much as she hadn't had many visitors since she was born.
Being so young, all she knew how to do was scream when she was unhappy. She hadn't learned reason and patience but that okay, she would get to that later on; For now, she used her lungs to get what she needed.

Cecilia was always so happy to see her mother. The feline was just... wonderfully warm and loving. Who couldn't be happy to see him?
"I'm glad you came, mom. It's nice to see you again after so long." She beamed at him and flopped onto the couch, sighing sweetly. "Oi... I --"
The doe was about to say more when she was caught off guard by the loud wailing. Cecilia flinched as if she'd been slapped and hugged her head in her arms. No, no! She was sleeping! She wasn't supposed to be awake now!!!
The doe sobbed to herself, desperately wishing she could just ignore the child but knowing that she could not. "Isolde is awake. Oh suits, she's awake! I can't take it anymore, mom! All the crying! It just never stops!" The doe sniffled and climbed to her trembling hooves, swallowing heavily. She had to get herself back together now or she'd just keep crying. Breakdowns like this weren't at all uncommon, but Cecilia found they were growing worse and worse as of late.
"S-sorry, I need...need to go get her."
The doe briefly hurried out of the room, reluctantly gathering the sobbing child from her crib and slowly making her way back to Maxwell. She rocked Isolde in her arms, still sniffling quietly but struggling to calm herself for Maxwell's benefit.

...well. Maxwell stared with wide eyes after his daughter as she went to retrieve her own daughter. Was she really having that bad of a time with motherhood? Well, obviously, seeing as it had reduced her to a trembling mess. He hadn't yet had the time to seat himself, and he was glad for that, because when Cecilia came back in he went directly to her, guiding them over to the couch and then gathering both her and Isolde in his forelegs.
"Hush, hush my little ones. My precious girls, it's alright," he purred, rocking them back and forth. It had been so long since he'd had Cecilia curled up in his arms like this, and though he'd visited Isolde a few times before, it had never been when she was crying like this. Never when Cecilia was as horribly stressed as this. "Let it out, angel. I'm here for you," he added, and hugged her tightly. If she needed to cry, then by the suits, she could cry on him. He was her mother, after all.

Cecilia melted into her mother's warm fur, sniffling like a child and trying to be sure Isolde wouldn't keep wailing. She could barely stand to hold her, didn't even know how she'd managed it for this long. Everything about the child filled her with a terrible anxiety but holding her was the worst. She'd long given up breastfeeding for bottle feeding simply because she couldn't stand the sensation of it.
Night's like these were the worst, when the little girl would wail and wail and wail and nothing Cecilia could do to comfort her. Not that Cecilia could do much comforting herself, when her panic was so tangible that the child must've absorbed it too.
Cecilia trembled more and more heavily as she held her, tears trickling down her soft features. Everything had been wonderful before Isolde. Everything. Now everything was strained and she was exhausted. "I... Just want it to go away. B-Being a mom, isn't what I ever wanted."

Isolde didn't understand what was going on. Cilia had come in to get her with a strange man but then she started crying. Was it her fault, Isolde wondered. She sniffed back the tears now that the person who took care of her was back and looked up at the two. The man had grabbed Cilia and herself to him and was hugging them both now. She didn't know what to do so she just looked up and said "Cilia." and smiled her silly little person smile.
She didn't know how to say very much so she just repeated it "Cilia. Cilia. Cilia." But then... man, was she hungry. She reached out her arms and hoped Cilia was looking because not too long ago they had achieved an understanding that it meant little Isolde was hungry. "Cilia. Hungee" she mustered out surprised at herself for knowing what to say. "CILIA HUNGEE. CILIA HUNGEE" she said louder making it apparent she wanted attention.

"It's alright, angel. Not everyone is cut out for motherhood. I suppose I just got the extra that they were handing out the day I was born," he said, tossing in a smile to try and get a similar response from her. She shouldn't be this tired, it just wasn't right on her! Then Isolde started to cry and wail for food, and he had the bad feeling that Cecilia wouldn't be taking that well.
Right then. Time to do his job. He'd helped raise nine children at once, after all.
"You stay there, sweetling. Just relax, and I'll take care of her now." With that he bent down and gently - oh-so-gently - grasped her at the base of her neck to carry her to the kitchen. He might not have hands, but he was used to dealing without them, and there were plenty of tricks to make things that worked for Bipedals work for those with Animal forms too. He happened to have his bag of those tricks slung over his shoulder, actually.
It was easy to slip back into what needed doing; getting the milk warmed up, testing it carefully with whisker-and-nose-tip to make sure it wasn't too hot, curling a foreleg around the child to support her with the bottle, making sure everything after that was taken care of as well, and the bottle washed and in the dish rack. With a full stomach and, after a quick check, a change of diaper, it didn't take long for the little one to fall asleep again, tucked into her crib. Then he finally returned to Cecilia, to take care of his daughter, rather than his granddaughter.
"Sweetling, when was the last time you ate? And, for that matter, what was it?"
[ooc: Hope you don't mind that bit of power play. Kiki said she didn't want to continue it, so I figured I could justify Maxwell going Super-Mama and getting Isolde taken care of and put back to sleep.]
