"Ahaha. I was testing a mysterious liquid and from all the tests I did it seemed safe to test on a live subject. I was the only live subject available at the time, and I wasn't willing to wait. So... I found out that the liquid wasn't exactly "safe" to inject. I hardly expected to have extra limbs." He shrugged as he took another sip of his coffee. He was a fool to believe what Loreta said. That's why he had tested the liquid.
And look where that got him. "It's certainly made my research a bit different since I now have to compensate for the extra weight. The wings have to be stronger than they were before, and probably larger than I originally calculated." There was a note of frustration seeping into his voice. It was time to change the subject, or something. "Could be worse though. At least I'm not a vampire or anything."

Injecting a mysterious substance into oneself without testing on another living creature first. Yep, that sounded like a classic Corvie move. With all her impulsiveness, she was trained at a very early age never to test anything on yourself before testing it on something else that breathed. This was especially important when working with diseases that she may or may not had made the vaccine for yet.
"You know, if you need a test subject, you can always borrow one of my banders next time. Spotty should be clearing up any day now, but you'll probably want to wait while I put him in quarantine for a bit. Safety measures and all. Need to make sure it's all out of his system. I'd let you use Vortex, but...well, he's a bit feisty."
The frustration wasn't missed by Ataxia. It was obvious that the experiment made the uphill climb to his goal even longer and more difficult than before. Still, Xia had faith that he would make it.
"It's no worries, Rocky. Just a minor setback. With science, some magic, some sweat and some luck, you'll be flying in no time. And I'll be willing to help you whenever you need it. And you're absolutely right. It could always be...Vampire? Of course, that's not really a very good example. I mean, vampires, they're not really real...right?"
After that story with the living doll, she wasn't exactly sure what was real or storybook. It was probably best to get some clarification on that.

"I'm not going to inject any unusual liquids if I can help it." The raccoon said with a wide grin. "Thankfully flight usually doesn't take you in that general direction. I never should have injected the thing in the first place." Rocco shrugged. However, he had done it and now there was nice and so very screwed over.
"There are people who drink blood. If they need or not is debatable. So as far as I'm concerned vampires exist to some degree. A scary one, but a degree none the less." The raccoon's tail swished in thought as he drank more of his coffee. "I bet you a lot of things we think are from story books exist. Unicorns though, that I doubt. Vampires, living dolls, ghosts and all that probably exist as improbable as it may seem. I mean, if magic exists what else can?"
The raccoon had always wondered about that. With science and magic both existing one often worked where the other didn't. Neither of them could solve the problem of death very well though.

"Eh, it's an honest mistake. I mean, really, what Corvie hasn't done something like that at some point? It's just not as likely with what I work with seeing as, one wrong stick, and you've got yellow jack. I swear, there has to be something in the genetic code of Corvies that causes that..."
She would have rather kept on the topic of experiments gone wrong. After all, she knew plenty about that. They were real, happened on occasion, and while the aftereffects could be anything, there was usually something in the research that could explain it.
Ghosts, vampires, these were things that were unknown, and therefore, scary. She knew what they were rumored to do, what they were rumored to look like, but there was no evidence that they existed. At least nothing supported by solid scientific evidence.
"Oooy, out of all those mythical creatures, I would have preferred having the unicorns over those other choices. I don't like the thought of any bloodsuckers wandering around at night...The corpse carters are bad enough..."

"I can't imagine vampires would be that terrifying if they were real. I mean you haven't heard of anyone dropping dead because of mysterious bites have you? So if they do exist I mean... It's not like they're very threatening. Corpse carters are scarier anyway. What's worse than someone running around at night with dead bodies for sale?" Rocky visibly winced. He had dealt with the shady business dealers more than once and it was scary beyond all thought and reason.
And there was that one that talked to the dead people. That was just... creepy. "At least some of the legends don't exist. I mean, how could zombies exist? That's just downright impossible. A lingering spirit I can believe, but a walking corpse I can't." If it was possible Rocky would run away from the monster crying. He was never brave, and the appearance of a zombie would make him run away crying like a little girl.

"I think it's cause when I think of vampires, I think of something I know is real that's another bloodsucking creature, like a mosquito or something. What if they're really just giant mosquitoes that have evolved into a larger creature? Or some Corvie messing with genetics actually spliced their genes with a mosquito's and made himself into a vampire? And is it contagious, like a disease? Is the reason that we don't see anyone dropping dead because the victims become vampires? At least I know where the carters hang out so I can avoid them. Vampires are just one big question mark."
It was true that the carters were probably one of the scariest real things out there, but the thought of the possibility of vampires definitely beat them by a long shot. She knew that the corpse carters wouldn't bother her at all as long as she didn't bother them. But what if a vampire had the munchies in Corvistowne?
"Zombies...the only way I can see them possibly existing is if there were mechanical parts inserted for the body to move and the body was properly preserved. I doubt if there is any level of magic out there that could create any kind of walking dead. Least I hope not."

"If Vampires are real and it were contagious I imagine there would be a lot less people running around and more of them than us. And frankly if a Corvie is gene splicing I imagine they would pick a better subject than a mosquito." The raccoon gave a shrug. If vampires were real, and there was a small chance they were, he imagined they would be somewhat harmless. Otherwise there would be some massive epidemic already.
Zombies though. Zombies were creepy regardless of reality. "Why would anyone in their right mind want to reanimate a corpse? I mean, I can understand being in love with someone dead but... when you do crazy things like trying to reanimated them bad stuff happens. It's in all the fairy tales and it seems to happen in real life. I've heard about quite a few accidents from Corvies, though I can only imagine what's true and what's rumor."
Wow, that was a rant and a half.

"You're probably right...but what if they only need a nip and the bite just looks like a regular bug bite? Maybe a malaria epidemic was actually a really hungry vampire! It would make sense that vampires would be malaria carriers with all the blood they would have to drink. And I wouldn't put it past any Corvie to do something that weird."
She knew plenty of people who were short a few bananas from a bunch while living in Corvistowne, though she'd probably rank up with them herself with her interests. Studying diseases didn't leave a very pleasant atmosphere in a lab, no matter how organized it might have been.
"...As creepy as it sounds, if someone can make an inanimate object into a living, thinking being, it almost seems more plausible that someone would be able to reanimate the once-living corpse..."
The thought put cold shivers up Ataxia's spine and she quick lapped up some more of her coffee to chase the chills away.

"Giving life to an inanimate object is more plausible. Frankly it wouldn't be as terrifying as a rotting corpse. Though, that might be a lie. A doll hugging you from behind is rather terrifying." The raccoon coughed before downing the rest of his coffee. He didn't want to think about that.
"I heard a rumor there was a mechanical Corvie who could gives life to his creations." Rocky said as he set his cup down. "Life. As in they are animate and such. I think it's pretty insane. How much magic or skill would you have to have? Then again I was never someone to deal with mechanics." He absently cracked his knuckles as he thought about it. He was slightly jealous, but really did prefer the goal of flying before anything else. It was something that seemed more... productive for him to do. He never thought mechanical things were that interesting despite all their uses.
