It was the middle of the night and it was the shadier half of the city and smack dab in the middle of it all was the somewhat down and out Kahmden canine. And she was utterly and completely lost. But she didn't really mind, her life was an utter failure, a perpetual downward spiral if you will. Chased from her home, living in a run down shack of an apartment, living deal to deal and not to mention the horribly crippling addiction, curse it... curse it all! Not even an hour ago she had left her apartment and had just.... ran as far and wherever her legs would take her. She took turns on a whim and ever once thought to memorize where she was going, she was simply running for the joy of well.... running. As she ran everything seemed so pleasant and lovely, the night was beautiful, the grimy streets a pleasant array of colors and forms, a grungy form of art, the cool air was simply delightful as it ran it's fingers through her short coat. And that warm, tingly sensation was always a plus, it's what drew her back time and time again. But now her limbs were tired, her rose colored glasses had slipped from before her eyes and she was tired.... mind body and soul. Without even stopping her limbs she simply let herself drop, hitting the tattered cobblestones of the street and sliding a bit, scraping her chin in the process. She simply sighed, biting back tears, she didn't even try to pull herself away from the crippling sadness and simply laid there in the middle of the street, a soft whimper escaping her maw. As Lariel tied a small package to her left hind leg, , she considered the dealings just completed. The trade had been well worth spending her hard earned cash. Knowing the market for items like these, she was likely to get double what she paid for it if she contacted the right buyers. And she knew a lot of buyers. Being a private investigator looked good on paper, and it got you in contact with a lot of different folks. Everything else she just did on the....side. Satisfied the package wouldn't fall off with a bit of running, Lariel crept silently out of the alleyway between run down shops. Most of this area was considered disreputable, however the bobcat often found it quite profitable to hang around. This night was no exception. Lariel stretched her lithe body, the crinkling from the package tied to her leg echoing ever so softly through the streets. Home was her only destination now. If you could call a rented loft apartment home. Lariel personally didn't believe in the concept of home. The word home had been associated with her parents, who may as well have been strangers for all they seemed to care about her. Tough love, they called it. The female bobcat felt her hackles rise at the memory of her parents and hissed into the night. Enough about them. It was always about them. Now it was about her. With her thoughts still in the past, Lariel stepped out into the street... ...and nearly collided with a bright pink Card. Only her cat reflexes kept her from being run over and pummeled into the cobblestone below her claw-enhanced paws. Lariel was now a good five feet away from where she had been, although no memory of actually making the leap. Her ears were pressed as close to her skull as they could manage and her heart was beating a mile a minute in her throat. Her blood pumped as though it would burst from her veins at any moment. Realizing her life was not in danger, and probably had never been, Lariel felt a bit of the driving adrenaline filtering out of her system and spared a glance for the large canine that had hurtled past her. The Card was still on the ground, and looked a bit worse for wear. Because she either wanted to see if the Card was alive or kick her downed body for being so ignorant, Lariel crept cautiously forward. When she came near enough, the bobcat extended a clawed paw and not-so-gently poked at the downed pink dog. "Hey, are you alive?" she queried. The dog had better be. Lariel certainly didn't want to be seen with a corpse. Too many pesky questions, not to mention what it would do to her reputation.

Whether it was because of her colors, or the fact that she just didn't care, Alona hadn't seen the cat at all. She'd flicked an ear in her direction at the initial sputterings, but that didn't really matter either, nothing did. This was such a stark contrast to her usual persona that anyone that knew who were certainly be either terribly confused or swear she had a twin. But no one knew her here in the city did they? She was a nobody, a bloody worthless nobody.
But... wait, was something touching her? She didn't move at all, but crustal hued orbs tried to see what or who it was, and then she picked up the question and answered the best she could.
I don't... think so. Am I?
If she was, wow, everyone was wrong. Being dead was nothing different then being alive. Hell, she was even still on the same dingy street that she'd fallen down and died on. But that made her think she was still living, and maybe she was if the cat had asked. Oy, logic was not fitting well into her muddled mind.
She lifted her head slowly, chin tinted red from the scrape, and she eyed the feline strangely, like she wasn't truly coherent. Her short, blue mane was resting haphazardly over her face and sticking out in all directions. She was such a mess, but she didn't care. And... .wait. She was talking to a kitty wasn't she? Such a pretty kitty to. She managed a very small smile, not much but it was there.
Who're you?

Lariel was getting closer and closer to believing this fallen pile of meat really was dead. So far her prodding hadn't elicited any response and she was beginning to wonder whether or not to scram in case anyone saw her around the body. She was about to poke a bit harder when the dog's eyes finally opened, though the rest of the body never moved.
Was she drunk or high, or just simply insane. The female bobcat mentally sighed, knowing this meeting wasn't likely to be over in the next few seconds. As much as she loathed to admit it, she wouldn't leave a drugged-out Card lying in the middle of the street.
"No, you're not dead you moron. Do you really think I would be the one to welcome you to the afterlife? I'm certainly not one of your dearly departed. Whether you like it or not, you're still alive."
As the Card lifted her head Lariel noticed the bit of matted blood on her chin and rolled her eyes. Hopefully she would feel that one in the morning. At least she was moving on her own now. Lariel hadn't been certain the dog was going to be able to get up by herself. The smile definitely surprised her.
"I'm someone you nearly ran over," she answered, knowing and apology was out of the question. Lariel was surprised the dog was as coherent as she was, if she had as much alcohol or drugs in her system as Lariel suspected.

She shifted her body a bit as the feline spoke, the movements she was making small and terribly awkward, but eventually effective in making her pose more.... normal looking. She didn't have the desire to rise to her paws, and probably not the ability to either. She was perfectly content to lay in th street anyhow, and didn't see a problem with it in her present state of mind.
She tilted her head to the side ever so slightly as the feline spoke, her mind grasping words here and there but never all of them. But... she was alive? Well, now that that was confirmed she said something low and muttered.
Oh....? Good.
The rather unpleasant manner the feline had of speaking didn't phase her at all, her own voice had an eerie cheer to it, despite the lack of said emotion in her body. Her ears swiveled lazily as the other continued to speak, she nearly ran her over? But how? She wasn't in a cart or anything, she only had her legs.... but she'd oblige the kitty anyhow, that rather small smile still present on her muzzle even if it was rather half hearted.
I wouldn't want to do that.... I bet you're softer then the road though, yes?

The bobcat watched the Card struggle into a more comfortable position and raised her eyebrow at the attempt. Well, she was moving even if she wasn't ready to do an Irish Jig. Still, it was improvement and at least it meant the cat wouldn't have to call for help. Explaining all this would be....too interesting to bear. The half a smirk the dog was sporting was starting to grate on Lariel's nerves and felt her whiskers twitch. At least she was grateful to be alive. It eased her fears that this was an attempt to end one's life. It wouldn't have been the first Card she'd heard of killing themselves by the drink or the drug.
Lariel sputtered. Softer than the road? What the hell was that supposed to mean? Technically speaking, Lariel thought to herself as she cocked her head to the side, would you WANT to come crashing down on something softer? "Yes," Lariel grudgingly admitted. "Yes, I suppose I would be softer than the road. Now get up. You'll have to get out of the street. Even if you didn't run me over, you could still be."

Her ears twitched and swiveled in their own little dance as she.... sputtered? Now that was a terribly interesting noise! The Forester couldn't help it and let out a soft, yet somewhat melodic laugh escape her maw and her tail twitched into a very faint wag. What an interesting card this feline was! Or perhaps she was merely being easily amused again? Bah, it didn't really matter, not one bit.
At her order however, she tilted her head in that undeniably canine fashion and peered quizzically up at her. Something could run her over? She peered around for a moment, ears halfway back to her skull until she discovered nothing of concern and lifted them back forward.
But there's nothing else out here, what could run me over?
And to be perfectly honest, her limbs probably wouldn't cooperate enough to move her up onto them and hold her up. She'd already exhausted them previously, and was a little... well... disoriented. Thus she merely let her tail sway in another soft wag, temporarily feeling more her chipper self.

Lariel raised an eyebrow and stared at the canine as she listened to her laugh. It was a nice laugh, too bad it was coming out of a prone body lying in the middle of the road. The tail was wagging back and forth. That was a good sign. Maybe, with some time and effort on her part, the pooch would be walking on all fours back to her place.
The canine actually moved her head to the left and right. Granted, it was slow and jerky movement, but at least so far nothing seemed to be broken or injured, with the exception of brain cells.
"There's nothing coming right now, idiot. But you know how fast those carts can move. You won't have time to get out of the way if one does come speeding down here. So you need to move. Now." Her voice was commanding, but not entirely unkind. She really didn't want to see this Card getting run over. "Listen, please just move so I don't have to worry about you any more. If you are so determined to spend the night out here, just take it to the side. You're too heavy for me to drag otherwise I'd do it myself."

The feline, for whatever reason that she'd been sputtery and mean before, seemed to be calming down a bit as her words were more... kind. Alona's ears perked forward at this, enjoying the cheerful sound. However, she knew better then to try and comply right away as she felt a slight quiver run it's way through the muscles on all four of her limbs, frustrating the part of her canine spirit that desired nothing more then to obey and comply with whatever orders were given. She furrowed her brow a bit at the thought to, absolutely frustrating!
Could you.... help me?
And, half for added effect, half due to frustration, a soft little whimper rose up fro the canine's throat and a pleading look formed on her face. However, that tail of hers gave another few soft thumps to the street to keep herself from looking as utterly pathetic as she was, as she knew she was, in hopes of not chasing the feline away with her own utter worthlessness.

Lariel couldn't help but snarl silently. This canine was so...pathetic. Hopefully it was the result of some heavy drugs and not the personality of the Card herself. The bobcat had had her share of drug induced episodes, so she couldn't really blame her. Maybe it was the whimper, maybe it was the slight worry of something happening, but she just couldn't leave the dog in the middle of the alley.
Sighing and rolling her eyes, hoping the canine would notice this was a burden on her, Lariel padded next to her. She took a moment to try and figure out how this was going to work. The dog was bigger than her, so dead weight dragging her wasn't going to work. She'd have to have her get on all fours at least to support her. Decision made, Lariel bent down and looked her directly in the eyes to make sure she was following.
"I can't carry you, so you're going to have to get up. Once you're standing, you'll be able to lean on me enough to get out of the street. Or so I hope,..." she murmered, realizing this plan could backfire and have her squashed on the pavement beneath the larger Card.
