Solo hadn't told Mori why he'd wanted to know where her mother lived, simply telling her that it would be a surprise. Hopefully it would be a pleasant surprise as well. Part of him felt a bit guilty at the relief he felt at not having to address her father, but he had felt nervous about addressing this question to the Queen of Diamonds. Not that her mother was any less nerve-inducing of a prospect. He'd groomed himself to a shine, even making sure to polish the rings in his legs, but hadn't added any other bits and pieces of jewelry or clothing. He wanted to appear as himself before her, nothing else. He did, however, bring a bouquet of Mori's flowers as a gift, wrapped with an ornate, shimmering ribbon he'd found in the Bazaar. Steeling himself, Solo took a deep breath, and then knocked on the apartment door. "Excuse me, Lady Calia? Might I speak with you for a moment?"

In some ways, Calia wasn't sure what she was doing anymore. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy her life, no... She just felt as though the days she had left were slipping, unused, through her fingers. She'd lost so much in such a short time. First Theofilus, then Asha, and now it was looking as if Kelasia was quick on the road to some form of dementia that no one would be able to prevent. Calia knew she was getting old, but... Even with everything else, she still loved life. She had grandchildren on the way, and the rest of her children were still doing so much to make her proud. Then there was Parzifal... She'd have to check in on him and the egg again soon. She sat in a chair by one of the big windows, letting the sun come in and warm her body. It felt nice, and she was just starting to drift off to sleep when a knock rang through the quiet. Calia blinked, not expecting a visitor, and made her way to the door. What she saw when she'd opened it made her smile, blue eyes sparkling cheerfully. There was a welcome face. It delighted her to no end that the sweet boy she'd met so many years ago had found her delicate Mori. She knew that she didn't need to worry about the girl anymore. Today he looked especially striking, his markings bright and his fur sparkling. And were those - flowers? Hm. " Oh, Solo, you don't need to be so formal," she said happily, moving in and hugging him tightly. " Come in, come in, make yourself at home. Can I get you something to eat, perhaps? Or some tea?" It was nice to have a visitor.

He hugged her back warmly, relaxing once he was in her presence. She reminded him so much of his Mom some times, that maternal, warm personality that just swamped everything and everyone.
"No thank you," he said, not quite able to get rid of his serious case of nerves. He didn't think she'd say no or anything, but it was still some sort of distant possibility. "I brought these for you," he added, handing the flowers over. "I know it seems a bit silly to hand over flowers from Mori's shop, but I didn't want to come empty-handed."
He took a deep breath again, and then took a chance.
"You see...Lady Calia," and even if she said there was no need to be formal, this was as formal a situation as any he was likely to get in. "I would like to ask your permission to marry your daughter, Mori." There. It was out. The deer-cat watched the woman with nervous, hopeful eyes, wondering just what her reaction would be.

Solo's nerves did not go unnoticed by Calia, and she wondered what could have him feeling so flustered. He had always seemed so full of youthful confidence, at least in her eyes, so this was quite the change. She knew - right away - that it had to do with Mori in some way, but she wasn't sure of how. Her expression was curious when she turned back to look at him, but a warm flush spread across her cheeks at his offer. She accepted the flowers, pressing her nose into them and inhaling deeply.
Oh, they smelled amazing... "No, no, it's not silly," she said softly, still holding the flowers close to her face. How long had it been since she'd had something like this given to her? Her eyes were soft, her smile almost shy. "They're beautiful. Thank you, Solo, and tell Mori I thank her, too."
It turned out that she didn't have long to wait to find out why he'd come, and more importantly, why he seemed so nervous. As he spoke, the woman's eyes widened. She lightly set the flowers down on a table nearby, careful not to crush the delicate blossoms, then took a step forward. She reached out, taking the much taller man's hands into her own, smiling up at him.
"I... I would be thrilled to have you as my son, Solo." she finally said, absolutely beaming at him. It was such a sweet gesture, that he'd come to ask her.. "Of course, the answer is in her hands when it comes down to it, but... You have my permission." She threw her arms around him again, unable to contain her joy.
Her little Mori had finally found someone who could care for her properly... A thought flitted into her mind suddenly, and she drew back to look at him again. "Wait here for just a moment, if you would..." With that, she pranced away, holding her skirts up to keep from tripping as she vanished into one of the back rooms of the apartment. When she returned, she was holding a small box. She passed it to Solo, her smile almost sad.
"This ring... Theofilus left it to me. I think... It would be appropriate to give it to you now, if you'd like.." She wasn't able to keep the slight tremor out of her voice, but her eyes were hopeful.

Had it been possible, Solo knew that his heart would have exploded with joy. Rainbows should have appeared, birds should have burst into the air and started singing - sparrows, preferably - people should have started singing and dancing in the streets to music that came out of nowhere.
None of it happened, but he certainly felt like it should have. Instead, he hugged her back, careful not to squeeze too hard considering the difference between their builds. Had she not pranced away, he would likely have dropped to a knee to kiss her hands in thanks. But he waited for her as she directed, practically trembling with happiness.
At her return, he took the box she offered and opened it up, then looked to her with eyes and mouth wide. "But... If this was his gift to you-" He wanted to protest, wanted to insist that she didn't have to do such a thing. The hope in her eyes arrested his protests though, and he bowed his head, finally dropping to that knee. "Of course. It would be my greatest honor. Thank you...thank you so much!"

Time passed. So did Calia. Caught between the joy of her marriage to Solo and the sorrow of the loss of her parents, Mori felt as though she was caught in a strange limbo. Waking up every morning next to the comforting, furry bulk of her husband helped that feeling, setting the scales more towards happiness than sorrow, but when the day came and it was time for them to go their separate ways to make money, she often had too much time to dwell on things. Her parents were dead, along with her adopted brother and half-sister. It had all happened so fast. She'd heard nothing at all from her brother, and was starting to assume the worst. Her other brothers were busy, raising children and serving the Courts and generally doing good for the world. Mori was making decorative flower arrangements. She stuck another white lily into the bunch, staring at it for a long moment before replacing it with something brighter. The world needed more color. There was something else on her mind, too. In the last few weeks, she'd felt more tired than usual. Then she'd started to feel sick, and she'd been putting on weight. That would normally be cause to celebrate, considering how long she'd been as thin as she was, but something about this felt... Odd. On the way home from work, she would stop in at a walk-in clinic and make sure she was alright. She certainly didn't expect the news she got. ~~~ When Mori arrived at their small apartment, she was oddly quiet. She pushed the door open and slipped inside, pausing in the hallway. Then, she made her way towards the living room, where she hoped she would find her husband. " Solo?"

Solo had returned from his latest delivery only to find the house empty. Well, that didn't surprise him all that much - Mori's shop was still in its working hours, and so she'd undoubtedly be busy. But still, he couldn't help the sad little ache. Perhaps he'd see about taking more deliveries around the Capital for a while, or even taking a vacation altogether for a week or so. He could help out around the shop, lift and carry the heavy things that she needed. Yeah, it'd been way too long since he'd done that.
With a pleased grin, he set about starting to make dinner, something special for the two of them. Maybe he could even convince her to take a day off too, just close the shop and the two of them could go out and make a whole day of it together. That sounded really good. The infatuated grin spread even further. The two of them didn't have a lot of extra money, but they could certainly finance a day together. Or even a vacation...? Yeah. That might be exactly what Mori needed in order to help her perk up some. Some time away, and together. He nodded to himself. He'd suggest it to her when she got home.
Speaking of... An ear flicked back toward the door, and he finished slicing up the last of the cucumber to add to the salad before he turned toward the door. "Welcome home, Mori-m'love!" He went straight to her, scooping her up joyfully to spin her gently about, setting her back down with a kiss.
[ooc: ...I think Solo-muse missed Mori. A lot. He just kept babbling at me. Woo, an actual RP post!]

From the kitchen came the clear sounds of cooking, a simple fact that warmed Mori to the bottom of her heart. Solo was the most considerate man she'd ever met, always helping her around the house when his job was even more demanding than her own.
Such a good man. She knew, in her heart, that this was all going to work out. Solo would take care of her.
A delighted little chirp escaped her as he made his sudden appearance from the kitchen and swooped her up in strong arms. Her wings flared slightly as she was set down once again, a blush coloring her cheeks at the kiss. Before he could pull away from her fully, she reached out to him and held his cheek, giving herself the chance to steal a second kiss. Even with her news sitting heavily in the back of her mind, there was always time for a little extra sweetness between them.
"You didn't have to make dinner, baby," she said softly, the hand still resting on his cheek sliding down through the fur in an affectionate stroke. "But I'm glad you did. Thank you."
She led him into the kitchen, moving to his side almost immediately to help him along with the preparation of food wherever she could. She had gained much more appetite than she'd ever had before, which was thankful considering what was soon to come. Lightly, she bumped her hip against Solo's much more solid form, tail swishing behind her and giving away some of the anxiety she felt. "So," she began, trying to sound as casual as possible. "I had my appointment with the doctor today..."
