She'd thought she was beyond this a long time ago. She thought it was a phase she'd grown out of. Surely, with all the character she'd accumulated during her travels recently, she was now above such petty temptations that lead to nothing but trouble. And yet...all it took was things at the Court going south (as after all they always did) for her to slip down to the kitchens to raid the liquor cabinet. She'd known better. But she hadn't cared. Bernard was dead. She'd never personally met the man, true, but somehow he had been a part of the Court for her....as timeless as the building itself. And not to mention Seth was also dead, and the resulting...everything...was just a little too much to bear. Seeing the effects on the rest of the Court...all she'd wanted to do was get smashed. Well, congratulations, Eldy, she thought to herself sarcastically as she stumbled through the hall. You're drunk. Not that it had taken long, considering she didn't do so often. Now all she had to do was make her way back to her room and spend the night in misery, then wake up to more misery, and then...no, she didn't want to think about -then-. She was making considerably more noise than usual, but there was no one around at this hour. Or so she thought. Generally she heard the person before she saw them, but her senses were so dulled that it came as a surprise when she rounded the corner, only to come face to face with a blurry white form. " Oh!" she exclaimed, puffing up, one remaining ear going back against her head.

[Sorry this took a little longer than expected to get around to. P: ] Alaster paused to yawn and stretch before heading off to the kitchens. It had been a long shift and he was starving to the point of it being too painful to sleep. He was eager to get to bed, but it would have to wait for a snack first. He pause again, but this time to stop to listen to the noise coming from the hall ahead of him. What the hell was that. He walked forward then stretched out his neck to look around the corner. It took his tired brain a moment to register who it was. It was Eldy. Poor kid. Forced to stay hidden, only allowed to be known after her father had died. He watched her walk right into him. Good. He wanted her too. He saw the condition she was in and felt a need to make sure she was okay. A lot had happened very recently. "Good evening, Eldy. Is everything alright?" he asked in a soft voice.

Her paws all skittered clumsily on the floor, and if you knew how Eldy normally walked, she was about the farthest from clumsy you could get despite the ball and chain attached to her leg. But to no avail, as she still ended up bumping right into Alastar. She peered up at him with unfocused eyes, and her breath would probably smell rather heavily of alcohol as she tried to formulate an answer.
Was everything all right? Well...well of course. Yes was always the correct answer to that question. "Y-yesh." But...but that wasn't true, was it? She was sad...for some reason. Some reason she was trying to forget...well, apparently she had, and she was going to stop thinking about it before she remembered...ach, too late. A frown came over the Cat's face as her fuzzy mind tried to sort through her feelings. "No. Nothing ish alright," she amended sadly, slumping down a bit, and for some reason her face still pressed against the guard's scales, as she hadn't bothered to move yet since bumping into him. He was cool, and she felt feverishly hot, her throat still burning slightly from the aftereffects of downing so much alcohol against her own better judgement.

Judging from her warmth, lack of coordination, and what he assumed was a slur, she was quite drunk. He dearly wished his olfactory senses still worked. His eyesight and intuition were certainly better now, but he really, really missed being able to smell.
"Yeah," he said a little distantly, "Everything is kind of messed up, isn't it?" He hesitated. Was touching her appropriate right now? She was in great distress, but not only was she the daughter of noble, he hardly knew her. He gently touched the tips of his claws to her shoulder.
"Do you want to talk?" He really didn't want to see it has him taking advantage of her in her state. With how far intoxicated she was at this point, he could hear any number of secrets she might be embarrassed for someone else to know. Still, with being forced to grow up in shadows and knowing the mental state of her father, he was a little afraid of what might happen if he left her alone to her own devices.

Kind of messed up? Kind of messed up. The wording struck Eldy as rather funny in that moment, and she barked out a short laugh. If she knew one thing about the Court of Hearts from growing up here, it was that nothing ever happened half way. Including getting messed up. "More like everything is !@#$%^ nine ways from last Tuesday," she said hazily, and then started laughing again, and suddenly she was laughing uncontrollably, supporting herself on the body in front of her, but it was very bitter, harsh sounding laughter. She was laughing at life, she was laughing at the Court, she was laughing at herself for being so fail at coping.
Only when she was gasping for breath would she finally be able to stop, claws probably digging into the floor, head spinning horribly. Slowly, she came to the realization that she had been asked a question. Hadn't she? Yes...
Did she want to talk? She wasn't sure, but when she tried to move away, the world turned upside down and she found herself falling, and struggling not to vomit. She couldn't possibly get anywhere like this...the thought of her mother seeing her like this was shameful...and to be alone would be to mope. Which is what had got her like this in the first place. "Yeah," she said, blinking up at him. "Le's talk."

Alaster sighed, his brow furrowing slightly in a concerned expression.
"Yeah, you're right," he agreed quietly. He watched her laugh for a few seconds then looked around. He wondered if there was anyone else around at this time. No. Not right now. Damn. He didn't want to leave her alone, but he was getting really cold from not having eaten, and she could really use some water.
"Good. I'm glad. Where did you want to go? My name is Alaster. I work as a guard here." According to rumor, she'd been taking a leaf out of her mother's book, but there was always a chance she didn't know who he was. that, and it was just polite.

Go? Where did she want to go? There was somewhere...was there? Not to her mother or sister...not to any of the secret places she usually haunted when she stalked the palace at night. She didn't really have her own room, persay, well at least not one she used on a regular basis. Then where? "Youuu pick," she said decisively, poking him lightly with a claw. She was aiming for his nose, but probably missed by a long shot.
"Yeah, I know that," Eldy said, something she would not normally have admitted to, and probably confirming his suspicions about her. Very obviously, she wasn't thinking clearly. Wasn't there something else she was supposed to do?...oh, right, since he had given his name, she should give her name! The thought that he'd already known it didn't register. "I'm Eldree...Elder...." She scrunched her nose up in annoyance, angry at her own lack of coordinated speech. "Eldryia," she finally managed to hiss out. "I jus' live here."

"That's a lovely name," he commented softly, his deep voice rumbling. He thought. He'd only ever heard of Eldy having a room attached to her mother's. Perhaps now was not the best time to take her there. Wasn't, though? No. They were going to talk. Taking her to her mother instead in the state she was in would only cause distrust.
"We're going to go to one of the guest rooms. Why don't you just stay here and I'll get a key from someone? I'll be right back, I promise." He put his "hand" on her back and gently pushed her down to encourage her to lay on the floor. that way there was more of a chance she would still be there when he got back.
He walked calmly around the corner. As soon as he was out of sight, he sprinted off to the kitchen, ignoring his aching feet. He really, really didn't want to be searching for her by the time he got back. That, and the sooner he got her to rehydrate and into a proper bed, the better she'd be in the morning.
When he got to the kitchen, he asked very politely for a snack and two gallons of water from one of the kitchen staff, and very discretely he told one of the regular house staff what had happened and that he needed a key to a guest room. The maid knew Alaster and knew he could certainly trust a drunk girl in his care. She told him what room he would be getting a key to and that it will be unlocked by the time they got there.
He returned shortly with just a bucket, having told the kitchen servant to just send the food and water up to the room when it was unlocked. In case she'd had enough to drink that the bucket was necessary, he'd have it ready.
"Okay, we can go up now. Just follow me."

Eldy nodded, but when this action served to make her head spin, she stilled, instead opting to just give silent assent by...doing what he said. She ungracefully flopped onto the floor when he pushed, hiccuping slightly. Being drunk...was not fun, she decided distantly. Why had she done it again?...oh, right, to forget. What had she been trying to forget?...she knew she'd been thinking about it before she bumped into Alastar, but now...she couldn't seem to grasp it. Thoughts and memories kept slipping out of her mind like water, like wet fish.
Huh. Apparently you really could forget your problems by drinking. She laughed, but abruptly cut off when the sound echoed loudly in the stone hallway. Her ears went back and she tried to move. There was...some reason she shouldn't be found right now. Because she was drunk? Because of her Father...no, no, he was long dead. Someone else was dead too...it was...
Alastar? She let out a startled mewl as his voice was suddenly right beside her. She blinked up at him blurrily. "Kay," she said, getting to shaky legs and attempting to do so...stumbling a bit, and once even tripping over her binding--something she hadn't done in years. "Sorry...I'm not used to -hic- bein' drunk."

He kept a hand on her to steady her.
"That's quite alright. I've got you." She felt unbelievably warm under his hand. Made sense, with her being completely wasted and him having not eaten in several hours. Buh, he couldn't wait to eat. "We're going to wait to talk until we get to where we're headed. Just focus on getting there." And not puking until we're somewhere not public for you to do it.
They got to the room after some time. Fortunately it was already unlocked an the water and a tray of sandwiches was inside.
"Make yourself comfortable where ever you want," he said, taking his hand off her. He put the bucket down by the door and closed it behind them. He let her seat herself as he went to pour some water into a bowl for her and grabbed a sandwich while he was there. He carried the water over to where Eldy decided she would seat herself and placed it down in front of her. He'd already finish the little finger sandwich by the time he'd walked over there.
"Here, drink this. It'll help make the morning less painful. Trust me."
