Viola stared at the flowers in front of her. They were such a pretty arrangements... she wished she had hands. They would make carrying them much easier. Then again she had no one to buy them for. Daddy wouldn't want them, neither would Lani. She hadn't seen Lior or Linda in forever.... and Uncle Bernard probably wouldn't appreciate them either. No one in her family was a flower enthusiast. She really needed some friends or something. The snake deers ears flicked back as she slithered into the flower shop a bit more. Maybe she would just pick up some flowers for herself? Readjusting her money bag that was hooked to her antlers she braved her way among the various flower arrangements. Her eyes widened with excitement as she saw the perfect arrangement. Violets and White Roses were two of her favorite flowers to look at. With a small squeak of delight she went to purchase the flowers. Transaction complete, Viola slithered out of the store down the street. Maybe today was her lucky day? After all the pretty bird girl at the counter was very nice to her. Why not someone else?

Nikoli groaned as he was able to set down the load he carried. He'd been moving back and forth most of the afternoon, helping to load, and unload, merchandise. His arms were aching, but thankfully, the job was now done. He collected his payment and went on his merry way. Well, not so merry. This Solandrian was never really the chipper type of character. Really, he'd probably be a lot happier if he could find a steady job. This one from today had just been one among many. However, not too many people were trusting of him, having heard rumors about the people from the glacier. Nikoli managed to shrug it all off and simply move on with life. As he walked down the street, he looked left and right, taking in the people around him. It was true, he hadn't any friends at all. But he did find an interest in observing those around him, picking out their qualities, reading about their personalities from their gestures and posture. It was a nice little hobby of his. Soon, his eyes came to rest on one in particular: a snake deer. He paused, blinking. Now, he wasn't one to just go up and start talking with a person. He wasn't quite that out-going. But it never hurt to throw a smile anyone's way. yes, that was what he'd do. As he was about to pass her, he allowed his mouth to tilt up slightly at the sides and gave her a nod in greeting. Knowing she'd probably just nod in return and go her own way, Nikoli didn;t get his hopes up.

Viola hummed as she made her way down the street, flowers placed in her antlers. They were very useful sometimes now that she was older. The snake deer took in all of the sites as she slithered down the street.
She was surprised by the Solandrian she saw coming towards her. There weren't that many who associated with people in the capital... so she had been told. Then he nodded and smiled at her!
Well then. She had to say hello! The snake deer paused where she was slithering and turned to the man. "Hello, Mister! How are you today?"
A random act of kindness went a long way. She learned that people never really expected it. People at the palace were more used to stabbing each other in the back, that's probably why she would never bother with court life. It just seemed like a horrible hassle--being mean that is.

Hmm, those flowers certainly were pretty. Though he wasn't much of a flower person himself, he did like to look at them from time to time. These smelled wonderful as well, he noted, as they came closer together.
Hey...hey! She said something to him! Huh, more than anyone else had pretty much done in his stay here. Polite as he was, he was obligated to return her greeting. He stopped, turning to look at her once more, his smile still in place. His eyes were still guarded, however. Growing up on the Solandrian Glacier had taught him to be wary of everyone, at least until he knew them better.
"Mister is such a bland title. Why not call me by name? I go by Nikoli," he told her. "My day has mostly been okay, but you're really the first person to give me a kind word today," he admitted, expression turning a little sheepish.

"Nikoli? Nikoli! I really like that name. It rolls off the tongue really well! It's nice to meet you Nikoli! I'm Viola!" The snake would have extended an appendage if she had the ability to, instead she just gave him a smile. "I'm happy to be the first one to give you a kind word. Everyone needs kind words now and again to remember that the world isn't as bad as we think it is."
She really did have a positive look on life. Why wouldn't she? So what if she saw horrible things in the palace when she was younger. She was a bigger person and could get over it. She really did miss her family though.... she should go for a visit sometime. And if they weren't around she could at least say hello to Xiven.
"Would you like a flower?" She offered. She did want to buy them for someone, so why not share with Nikoli?

If he could have, Nikoli probably would have blushed. She liked his name? He'd never thought it was anything special. Sure, he'd heard names he'd thought were nice, but Nikoli had never set his own in that category. This small amount of praise made Nikoli warm up to Viola a little more. Most of his life had been full of coldness and scorn, with kind words few and far between. Because of this, words of kindness and praise went a long way with the feline. "Thank you, Viola. Your words mean a lot to me. I come from a harsh place, so I suppose I'm not used to nice people. I admit, you did surprise me." he said with a small grin.
At the offer of a flower, Nikoli blinked in surprise. A gift? For him? It made his smile widen a little more. Viola truly was a kind person, it seemed, even for a place like the Capital. "I would love a flower, Viola." His voice was full of amazement and wonder. Really, the gift of a flower seemed like such a simple act, but these things held great importance for the feline. When he got back to his apartment, he'd have to remember to press the flower so he'd have it always.

Viola smiled. Making someone happy was something she rarely had the chance to do. Today really was a special day. The snake deer would have purred if she was part cat, instead she wiggled a bit with happiness.
Using her tail she took the flowers out of her antlers briefly placing them on the ground so she could pick one out of the bouquet for the feline. A rose or a violet? Both flowers were equally beautiful and had a strong meaning behind them. So which one was for the feline? If only she had bought some Gladiolus....
"Have a rose, white ones mean purity." She said before plucking one out of the bouquet and offering it to Nikoli. Once he had take the flower she picked them up carefully with her tail and set them comfortably in her antlers again. "Would you like to get some tea or something with me? I mean... if you're not in too much of a hurry."

Nikoli watched in amusement as the card wiggled with happiness. She really was quite adorable, and that certainly wasn't a normal part of his vocabulary. He watched as she carefully went through her flowers before offering him one of the white roses. He took the flower, examining it before looking up at Viola. "You must know a lot about flowers to know the meanings." he said, curiosity tinging his voice.
He took the rose, mindful of its thorns, and stuck it in his mane for lack of other places to put it. Yes, he might look a little odd, but this way it wouldn't get messed up. He wanted to take good care of it. She seemed hesitant as she asked him about going to get tea, but he didn't mind at all, not in the least. "No, no, I would love to go. I just finished my work, so I have nothing else to do today." he admitted.

"I just think it's nice to know the meaning behind things. Etymology is pretty fun too." She said with a smile. Finding the meaning behind things was one of Viola's few hobbies. One day, she wanted to be a scholar... but she could never be as smart as an Esterberry or anything like that. It was a bit of a pipe dream, but it was still a dream for her future. She had to find something to do with her life after all.
She nearly squealed when Nikoli accepted her offer for tea. "Thank you!" she said happily. "There's this cute little Cafe that I've been wanting to try out, if you don't mind. It's not that far away. It's only a five minute walk."
It would probably be a little shorter for Nikoli if he had been traveling alone. Unfortunately Viola had to slither everywhere. She hummed happily as she led the way to the cafe. It was a "cute" little place with lace and various girlish things. Various couples were sitting at the tables outside drinking tea and eating assorted cakes.
The snake-deer stared at the chair looming above her. They really weren't made for snakes.
