[Title is lyrics from Splashdown song Elvis Sunday] Bianca no longer sang as she went about her work through the halls. She was growing more and more uncomfortable as her time in this Warren went on. She skittered along, looking over her shoulder every once in a while. She really hoped not to bump into Leon today. Why, why, WHY did he take so much interest in her? He didn't know if his constant breathing down her neck was some strange way of his of showing interest in her being a Doe? Or was it... something else? Was he suspecting what she was starting to suspect about herself? She shuddered at the thought. It was just wrong! It went against everything she was taught and she knew was right. But every time she thought about her... When she rounded the corner she found that new leveret she'd heard about. She rather disliked having to deal with new people, but she might as well get this over with. After all, we're both leverets. We're both in the same miserable boat..."Um, hello," she greeted the other leveret with whiskers twitching a touch in annoyance. God, she disliked dealing with people she didn't know... (no, atually she didn't care, it was just her current predicament that was making her so moody), "You must be the new leveret I heard about. Sashi, right? I'm Bianca. I just... wanted to welcome you to the Warren..."

Shashi had been reading something he scribbled down on a piece of paper. He was going to "borrow" several volumes from Leon's Library. Of course Leon wouldn't find out unless he went to look for these particular books. That's why he always picked painfully obscure things to read about. The Jacks didn't notice right away. He nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard his name. Mispronounced. Honestly, was it that hard to say? Then again he had an unusual name... and came from Esterberry. Two counts against him. "Shashi. That's my name. It's nice to meet you Bianca!" He said cheerfully as he crumbled up the piece of paper. She was from Villa. That was a nice respectable place. She probably had useful things to say as well. No point in dismissing this encounter. His ears twitched. " You look rather...." he planned on saying nice, but she looked rather run down. Herm. "Stressed. I haven't run into you sooner so I'm assuming you have a difficult job?"

"Sorry, Shashi. I've only heard about you second hand, so one of the other must've pronounced it incorrectly. It's... nice to meet you too," she replied somewhat blandly. She did a bit of a double take at his comment. Did she really look...?
"I... sorry. I has been a little stressful lately. You see, one of our leverets became a Doe... a while ago... so the work load for the rest of us increased quite a bit. And, well, the only new guy we have is you..." she smiled weakly. "So things should get a little easier. I can just concentrate on my kitchen and music duties and not have to bother with this room at all!"
This leveret... was awfully attractive... No! Don't even think it! she chided herself mentally.
"Have you met our Jack, Remmington, yet?" Maybe if I can get Leon interested in this new leveret he'll stop bothering me so much...

Ah well. Everyone was on edge, of course. Apparently Miss Bianca didn't like the idea of a Leveret turning Doe. Perhaps the rumors about that one Doe were true. And he believed the pronunciation issue. Not a single person in this warren had initially said his name right.
"Oh yes, I've met Master Remmington. Rather nice fellow. If I were well..." his voice dropped to a whisper, "female I would probably go after him myself. Of course I'm not, but I doubt he'll figure that out anytime soon. It normally takes a while before I have to skip out of town." He raised his voice to a normal level. Leverets normally didn't screw other Leverets unless they had some unspoken rivalry.
"So are all Villa as talented as they say? If you have music duty then I imagine you're the fantastic sort of talented person."

She felt her heart sink. Male? Dammit all! No, she couldn't do as she was hoping now. She had no reason to sell him out. She'd just have to solve her own problem, then.
"Heh, well," she blushed slightly, "I... don't mean to sound arrogant, but I am a talented singer, and I always keep a good rhythm. I don't do as much music-related things here as I did in my last Warren, though. I'm mostly just kitchen and cleaning staff, now. Hospitality, on the rare occasion we get a guest here." She was already feeling herself start to loosen up as she spoke to the Shashi.
"My last Warren was actually in Villa en Miir, so I can say they really are. The Jack had a wide variety of Does, but he never settled for anything without any form of musical talent, including his leverets!" her nose wiggled in amused. What a hilarious Jack he was. Always so eccentric and lively, "He would even pick out his Does by what instrument or singing section he was missing! He tried to never have less than 3 Does: a soprano, a mezzo, and an alto. When he was short his mezzo for a year or two, he had me fill in musically, always pulling me away from my duties. There was always music in the Warren..." and how I miss it...

"There's no need to be shy when you have talent!" Shashi waved a paw. He listened to her story about her previous Jack. He sounded like quite the character--and if she filled in for a Doe he must have thought highly of her. That or he loved music so much that he couldn't live without mezzo. That was middle range for women, wasn't it? Maybe he should do a little more research on music. He'd seen a book in the library.
"It's a pity to have a talent like that go to waste. Why on earth did you leave...? Did he try to make advances and you bolted or--no no that's none of my business. Sorry. I'm just terribly curious by nature. Stereotypical Esterberrian thirst for knowledge." Too bad he was born a male Leveret. Boy was mother disappointed. "You work with Somhan in the kitchen then?"

"Thank you for the compliment," she smiled shyly. She was still fairly uncertain of the new guy, but she couldn't help but enjoy a compliment. Whiskers twitched at the set of questions, though. Running away now didn't sound like a half bad idea...
"It's a very long story, and to be honest? I don't know that half of what went on in my Jack's mind at the time. I was traded, and despite everything I've done and the lack of complaint my old Jack had about me, he seemed eager to get rid of me," she gave a shrug, "I know Somhan and he puts me to shame in the kitchen. He specializes in desserts, though, I help out with more main course-type meals. I like making tea blends, too," her nose wiggled. She disliked feeling inadequate and made her feel better to think of things she was good at. She looked to the floor. Great, now that she was able to push back the fears of Remmington long enough, now thoughts of incompetence began flooding her mind. She suddenly perked up again.
"I'm... assuming you've already had a tour of the Warren? Have you been given any tips or warning about our Does? Know what to look out for?"

"Jacks make about as much sense as a Card high on Opium." The Esterberrian snorted. He couldn't make heads or tails of leverets, let alone could he understand a Jack. He would stick with understanding himself.
"But I don't actually know where everything is. I know where the kitchen is, the library is, and the sleeping quarters. Beyond that.... I have no idea where I'm going." Shashi blushed, the copper covered most of it. Being clueless wasn't something he liked to be. It was admitting to someone that you were at fault, and he never liked being at fault.
The rabbit's tail twitched. "I greatly appreciate you willing to show me around. Is there anything I can do for you in exchange? I would feel bad taking an offer and not giving something back. We all have to work together here so we're not flayed alive right?"
