Everyone, meet Alaster.
The color is pretty lame. I just did a quick swipe to show his markings. And pretend his rank and suit are colored. XD
My latestabomination NPC. 10 of Hearts and half Jesus Lizard, half Egret (I wanted him to be a half-bird, half-lizard to make him look kinda like a DINOSAAUR!). He is a guard of his Court and filled with both Highland and Heart pride! He also has a minor mutation of having semi-long teefs. :E
However, that doesn't stop him from having a weird fetish for Clubs or finding ladies from the 'undesirable' Regions (Golfam, THE BOG LIEK WHOA, Solandria, and to some extent the Lowlands, (native) Tulgey, and Torquehelm) strangely attractive. He totally has a super seekrit BURNING crush on both Rhi and Heilyn. He thinks Bog Dwellers are exotically sexy. XD However, he's TERRIFIED of having this found out. The last thing he wants is to be in the middle of a scandal and lose his job because of it.
I think he has these weird, unorthodox attractions because his overly proud and verbally abusive mother tried to drill into his mind "HIGHLAND HART ONLEH OLOLOLOLOL!!!1oneleventy" and only ended up making Highlanders downright drab in his mind and made the "forbiddenness" of Clubs that much more enticing.
I think part of his family history can only be explained by the song Carolina Drama by The Raconteurs except replace 'Billy' with Alaster and 'Carolina' and 'Tennessee' with various places in the Highlands. (Hey, not everywhere in the beautiful Highland hills are gonna be picture-perfect. Even the Highlands have redneck pieces of shit! XD )
That's right, Our dear Alaster grew up a podunk redneck. He did have the grades and talent to get into a very good private academy in the Highlands that his family couldn't afford (as they say in Esterberry: Highland academies aren't as promising as their prices suggest... but I digress). However, Alaster's real dad began fronting the bill to send the boy to school. No one knew where this income was coming from as neither of the hillbillies had jobs.
One day as the preacher/real dad came to give Alaster's mom his usual payment for his bastard children, the boyfriend came back sooner than expected and found them, completely blew the situation out of proportion and... well, you listened to the song.
He attempted to get into Esterberry schools after that incident, but Esterberry tends to view Highland private academies more like bureaucracies rather than actual institutions of education and his attempts were unsuccessful. He eventually dropped out, not taking his education at the current academy very seriously. Despite his phail, his strongest subjects were Literature and Martial Arts (what a combo XD And he was actually quite good at both. For a while those two subjects where the only things not getting him kicked out). In his last year at the school, he was the teaching assistant in his Fencing and Hand-to-Hand combat courses. Right out of school he sought out a job at the place of the highest concentration of of pride in both the Highland and Heart variety: the Court of Hearts.
He started out at the bottom, wet behind the figurative ears a few years after Serafino took power. Seeing as he did not have a lot of education, he was started off pretty low as a page running errands for the higher-ups. He got himself a private tutor, an Esterberry who worked at the Court and usually taught the children. He worked himself up station and rank to being a well-respected and trusted 10. He hopes to one day be in charge of the Palace Guard.
His parents live in a comfortable flat in a decently-sized Highland town just a short travel from the Court. He dreds having to go home on his days off to take care of his parents. His mother, bless her Heart, got substantially worse as old age and senility kicked in. His father, severely injured after the fight with ex-boyfriend (he had a pre-existing condition before then which was worsened by the strangling and such) and in combination with that he's damned old, is an invalid. He takes care of them both, sorely wishing they would just die already, his father finally freed from the misery of his life and Alaster freed from the misery that is his mother.
His younger brother died of a Checkmate overdose a few years back. His body was found in some alley of a larger city in the Highlands, robbed of every pewter and several chunks of feathers missing.
During the rule of Serfino, he was fascinated by Marie, the Summoned weapon but was terrified to even look at her (he wasn't as high-ranking then as he is now). However, now he has befriended Rhi's summoned weapon, Apocalypse.
...yeah, I made up most of that right now, so they're probably a whole lot wrong with it. XD It is now 5 am as I'm finishing this up.... so don't mind me. XDDD It's just a random late-night rambling.
