These are just 3 random SeLyn drabblings I wrote because... I dunno, I wanted to, I guess. The first is just a little soft side of Heilyn's worry/paranoia the second is a Seth POV writing and my attempt at being deep and emotional (and with other people's characters to boot!), the third is for the word count the lulz.
...enjoy the non-proofread abominations. XD
“It’s… so weird to think that they came out of me…” she marveled as she held the sleeping children. Her lover kissed her cheek and snuggled closer to her.
“Yeah, unbelievable,” he breathed. Their relationship was holding out this far. He’d knowingly had kids with a woman and here he was, going the exact opposite his past self would’ve said was the smart thing to do. He stayed. She lifted her head and stretched her neck to nuzzle her nose in the thick fur on his face, giving his chin a lick despite her being in her human form. She sighed when she looked back down.
“It’s also incredible to believe they’re such terrors when their awake. They look so sweet right now… It must be a clever ruse from nature. Children have evolved over the years to look this cute so we don’t kill the little monsters in their sleep,” she joked in a quiet voice so as not to wake them. She wanted to make as much use of this time as she could. It was one of the few times she could be anywhere near her daughter without the girl. The girl stirred, making the woman tense then shift into her Bipedal form. Even if the girl’s sleep only became lighter, Heilyn feared her inability to tone down her aura far enough from the girl would frighten her out of sleep. She couldn’t stand the gap between her and her daughter, but she couldn’t seem to close it no matter how hard she tried. The damage had been done before Heilyn knew what the problem was. The exact opposite problem was exhibited by her son. He loved her dearly, but she couldn't teach him etiquette and discipline, no matter how hard she tried. 'Inadequate' and 'unworthy of a family' repeated themselves like a mantra in her mind.
Apparently, she’d been telegraphing her thoughts, or else Seth wouldn’t have brought her back from them with a kiss on her head and his deep voice telling her not to worry and that she was a good mother. She closed her eyes and leaned into the touch, dearly wishing to believe those words.
He had to be sure she was really sleeping before he dared touch her again. He’d learned the pattern. There was a point where her breathing changed. The hardness that her paranoia and dominant attitude caused on her face melted slowly away into an expression of serenity. It made his heart melt when she gave him that expression when she was awake, and even at times when she was asleep. In incredible moments of intimacy when she forgot the world around her, the world that made her angry and worried, the world that made her see enemies in every shadow and behind every stranger’s smile… when that softness came its way onto her face it made him feel as though she couldn’t think them because there was no room for anything else in her mind but him… it filled him with a joy he couldn’t describe. Every touch from her felt electric, leaving wherever she touched tingling long after her honey-tinted skin left that spot. It was a look only he got. Access only he had. Not only of her Body, but into the depths of her Mind and – dare he think it? – her Soul. At first feeling this way terrified him. The Glacier caused him to build up a wall between himself and everything else.
That was strength, after all.
Having that barrier melt a little every time almost hurt. It was a frightening thing, to have the thing that kept him alive for so long be broken down and he loving every minute of it.
“Suits, I love you,” he whispered as quietly as he could, gently running the back of his hand on her cheek. His mind went to a small silk box hidden away in his part of the closet. It hadn’t really taken him too long to find out what her favorite stone and metal were to tell the artisan he commissioned to make the ring from, what was taking forever was him working up the nerve to ask her. What if… what if he was wrong? What if he wasn’t the only one that Look was for? What if he’d been making a fool of himself this entire time? Making a laughing stock of himself to his region. He wanted to think this would be forever, as stupid and cheesy as it sounded. If he’d been simply strung along, he dearly wished it was by the red string of fate. He knew more than anything that the only thing that hurt more than breaking the barrier down was building it back up again.
Now she tells me, he thought rather miffed as he marched out of the palace into the gardens to find himself a quiet, secluded spot to brood on his own.
She’d just informed him everything he was doing wrong in raising their children, insisting to him he didn’t understand the Canine mindset. There was apparently an entire subconscious acknowledgement of hierarchy that Canines had engrained in them.
Well no wonder she wore the damn pants in this relationship. Only now did he understand that he’d basically handed them to her since the beginning. He needed a damned smoke.
