Word Count: 850
Characters: Zane, The Theofilus family: extended and otherwise mentioned.
I will comment on my other thread with the fanart, just needed to get this out.
Zane sat in front of the series of papers that he had sorted through multiple times. He hadn't wanted to go through this, and he never wanted to deal with it again. He glanced over the first piece of paper catching the words "I, Theofilus Giovanni , do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my Last Will and Testament, hereby expressly revoking all wills and codicils heretofore made by me...."
This really was happening and there was no way to avoid it.
Rogers got half of the shipping firm, while he got the other half. Ez had been given a small variety of trinkets that their father had collected over the years, as well as a magical goblet. Malc had received a small amount of money to get him started in the world along with a small book "just for him. " Mori was given a rather large chunk of money to possibly expand her business, along with his small collection of romance novels. The list went on and on, and everyone was given something. He had been prepared for everything.
And there were also three letters to be handed out. One for him, one for Calia, and one for Eilwyn. The sparrow couldn't help but wonder why they had gotten letters while several other people hadn't. He swallowed hard as he stared down at his own.
He ran one of his talons along the seal, popping it open to stare at his father's handwriting. His eyes skimmed over the text several times. No matter how many times he couldn't seem to process the words properly.
His heart just sake as reality engraved itself into his mind.
Zane set the letter for a moment, looking at the other two letters. He might as well deliver them first before reading his. Carefully he picked up the letter and slipped it back in the envelope.
Deliver the letters. Then read.

Zane didn't stay when the letter was delivered to his mother. When Calia decided to open it she would be greeted by the familiar writing of the deceased Queen.
"Dear Calia,
I'm sorry that I could never be perfect for you. You were, and will always be, my everything.
Without you I couldn't have gone for my dream. I wouldn't have had a family. I wouldn't have been able to go on without you there to support me. I love you so much, and I'm so sorry I was never able to propose to you like I should have. It's too late now, but I was going to give you my grandmother's wedding ring they day I finally decided to propose.
I was never able to do so because I was afraid. I was always afraid that if we got too close I'd end up pushing you away.
I pray you find it in your heart to forgive me.
Please, please tell Asha that I love her. And tell her that her rank and suit don't matter. And I truly hope that she finds the love she's looking for.
I love you,
Theo. "
A tiny ring gold ring was enclosed in the envelope.

The second letter. Zane had simply dropped of the letter, not willing to stay with his brother for once.
Eilwyn was left with the familiar handwriting. It was something he hadn't seen his entire life thanks to his eyesight, but now he had no choice. Tearing open the letter he revealed the contents. There were no salutations, just a small block of text.
"I'm sorry I wasn't able to keep that promise to you I made so many years ago. I was an awful father, and I hope you forgive me for not telling you the truth about your mother. I hope you and Elyse are happy together, I'm so proud of you."
---
Zane was alone once again. Sitting in his room with the letter. His Dad's various journals were with him, along with the silver pocket watch that his father had given him not too long ago. The sparrow let out a small whimper as he opened up the letter.
"Zane,
I'm sorry to leave such a burden on you. I hope you can forgive me. I couldn't bring myself write any more letters beyond the three. I just wanted to let you know how much I love all of you, even if I didn't say it all the time.
Please tell everyone I love them.
And please, Zane, read my journals. I'm sure once you do you'll understand everything.
Dad."
Zane sat in silence for a long while he stared at the letter. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to do or say. He knew eventually the time would come to claim his father, but he had hardly expected any of this. And now this letter was directing him to read his father's personal journals. Had he known he was going to die that way? Had he been completely aware that he wouldn't be able to pass on the title of Queenship properly?
He must have. Dad had the power to read the future....
The sparrow crumpled the letter.
He didn't want to know. He didn't care.
