Wide, wooden bookcases lined the whole interior of the Capital City Public Library, each one filled to capacity with volumes of colourful, finely-bound tomes of all sizes that documented every subject known to Cards. "'Better Than Beauty: A Guide to Charm'... 'Miss Manners Guide to Excruciatingly Correct Behaviour'... Pah!" Oriana huffed as she shoved the last book back into its niche on the shelf. The foxwing bat rocked back on her hind limbs and flattened her ears against her head, growling under her breath. Great! All the books in the world outside of Esterberry and I can't find the last one I'm looking for.
Gold-speckled violet eyes narrowed, she swept her gaze across the row of books one last time, skimming over the titles labelled on the spines. Finally conceding that it was not there, Oriana sighed, closing her eyes as she did so. She then cocked her head to one side and tapped a claw on her chin thoughtfully. Hmm...maybe the librarian would know where that book might be... In lieu of any better ideas, the young woman picked up the three books she had managed to find.
Quietly, so not to disturb the other patrons, she began threading her way around the bookcases.

A few minutes later, Oriana emerged into the wide, open center of the library and stopped, glancing around in all directions, as if looking for someone, until she spotted the circulation desk up ahead. Seeing that made her smile, eyes lighting up like sparklers. Not wanting to wait a moment longer she strode across the carpet...only to take two steps back when she abruptly stopped short. Oriana gasped, wings nearly went slack, as she stared in dismay at the sight of the loooong line-up. There had to be at least five people! Oh Suits! Not only can I not find the book I need; I have to stand in that great big long line just to ask if they have it.
But she didn't have any other choice.
Oriana gave a deep sigh. She tightened her grip on the books, resigning herself to a long wait. Reluctantly, she trudged the rest of the way and stood at the end of the line.
