Taking her pouting silence for the victory it was, Femi ignored her for the time being and curled up on Alphonse's pallet, settling the little squirrel-bat against her furry chest and petting his silky fluff until he calmed down. All the fuss being made earlier hadn't been much help for his state of mind either, never mind the hurt. If only he were tired... but this was evening, his time to be up and awake, and these outsiders ruined it!
Thyme grinned hugely behind the couch where no one could see her until her brother slunk around to give her the glare of a lifetime. "I never heard of a lap-squirrel before," she snickered quietly, the words hissing out so that Dad couldn't hear them. He looked so ticked off. Even if he would do something to get her back later, that was totally worth it.
And as quickly as that, her six-year-old wariness of the outsiders was gone. After hearing her multi-limbed sibling fall onto them, she just couldn't be intimidated by them, no matter how 'off' the woman smelled. Maybe she just needed a bath. Eww.

Keeping half of his attention on Parsley and Loreta, Hatter smiled briefly at Kazi's scolding before watching the squirrel skulk off. Was that the tip of a white and red tail that he glimpsed from around the corner of the couch?
Risking an ADD moment, Hatter shifted his posture and peeked over a little further in order to get a decent look at the young wolf hiding behind the couch. Well then, it would seem she was to blame for the little moment of chaos, wasn't it?
Chuckling to himself, Hatter shook his head and turned back in time to catch Kazifel talking. So meeting Femi had something to do with it? It made Hatter painfully curious to hear the story of their meeting and to learn the intricacies of exactly what happened...not that he imagined Kazi would divulge such a thing.
"Is that so? Well, based on that, I'd have to say that it was a force of will; mind over matter, or magic in this case. It's terribly interesting though, whatever the true cause was..." And entirely opposite of what his true research goals involved. He wanted to make mechanical dolls and give them their own life, not take a pre-existing life and turn it into an animated doll. "I'd say pity there wasn't further room for experimentation...but, in all honesty, I'm sure you're glad for that, hm?"

Rosemary whimpered. She bounced up and down on her toes. With as much force as she could muster she batted at the door knob. Failing quite spectacularly she fell backwards hitting the floor with a rather loud thunk. She whimpered again curling up in a ball to hold her head. Ow. Ow. Owwwwww. She just wanted out.
"If Mommy was out here you wouldn't have done that." He muttered. He would have done more than growl at his sister but the strangers were really interesting. "Just be quiet so we can listen."
Kazifel shook his head. "It's not that easy. A mage had to remove some sort of curse from me... I don't know what it was but after that I was able to change." The wolf was still uncomfortable when it came to that memory. How couldn't he be? He had been a doll.... a monster... a freak. Something that everyone hated. And now he was Femi's King. That was something he held on to....and he had made her terribly upset by inviting "outsiders" into the house.
God, this shouldn't be so complicated. The wolf sighed in his human form and shook his head. "You're welcome to stay for the night. My wife isn't going to like it, but I'm not going to kick you out."
Sage remained next to her father, peaking over the arm she was hugging. So the pretty man and scary bird were staying the night. Maybe she could ask the pretty man about dolls. Daddy didn't always tell her everything about dolls and she just had to be careful about Mommy. Rosemary was taking good care of that though.
Loreta was a thousand shades of uncomfortable. She really didn't like this place at all.

Femi listened to her daughter's attempts at escape with half an ear, wincing when she heard her fiddling with the locked doorknob. That wouldn't work for much longer, she was sure. The girl seemed amazing at getting out of places she was supposed to stay, and at getting into places they didn't want her. "Just come here and settle down," she muttered, not expecting either a reply or obedience. So long as she stayed in the room, that would be enough.
Alphonse was content to curl in Mommy's lap and be stroked and fussed over. It didn't stop his mouth from hurting, but at least it helped him feel better.
Thyme stared back at Hatter when he looked at her, as if daring him to say something. When he didn't, she smirked with yet another small triumph and turned back to her brother. "No, and if Mommy was here you wouldn't have been so close either, so just be quiet yourself." Content for the moment with her snotty reply, she turned her attention back to what the adults were talking about.
...what were they talking about, anyway?

A curse? Now that was a bit awkward to maneuver around. His thoughts returned to the pretty Yarrow doll... His cheek smarted just thinking about it.
"A mage, eh? Makes sense, though. A mixture of magic and science... It's what keeps Doorie moving." The thought of Doorie brought his attention back to the little Mome currently limp in his lap. Damned, he would have to fix that. The man's offer briefly distracted him, however, and he put Doorie back out of mind for a moment. "That would be wonderful of you, and I apologize again for causing your wife distress."
He smiled warmly, glancing to Loreta. She looked terribly uncomfortable, but what could he really do? They'd be gone as soon as the sun was high enough for them to travel safely. Then again, there was the problem of restless Hatter sleeping... He could always use Lore to distract him, but keeping his hands busy would suit him a little more. His expression turned sheepish quite suddenly and he glanced up at Kazi with a hopeful look in his two-toned eyes. "Would you possibly have any tools I could borrow to patch Doorie up?"
Hatter didn't like to sleep much, especially in strange places, it would give him something to do to keep himself busy.

"But Mooooooommmmmyyyy!" Rosemary whined as loud as she could. She really wanted out. She wanted to see the brightly colored stranger and that thing he was carrying. She wanted to be OUT of this room. Alphonse could cuddle with Mommy all he wanted--she wanted to be a big girl and investigate.
Parsley growled as best as a squirrel could. His sister was such a meanie sometimes. Then again she was a King and she used that to her best advantage. "Let's just listen to what they're saying... and if we get a chance let's try to meet the Hatter guy. How about it?" Another Corvie. He really wanted to know what it was like in Corvistowne.
Sage tugged on her father's coat sleeve to get his attention. Once he leaned over to listen to what she had to say, he couldn't help but grin. Well, it looked like Sage wasn't going to develop pure hatred of outsiders.
"No one in Tulgey likes outsiders. My wife just made a special exception for me." He paused for a moment as he patted Sage on the head. "However, Sage here suggested that I show you to my workroom. She's curious to see what Doorie does. Let me show you and your friend there."
Loreta still felt uncomfortable. There was no way in hell she was being left alone in this place. She wasn't about to sleep either. These people could easily kill her.... all right. She was being paranoid. The wolf... man... seemed nice enough. She still couldn't get rid of the feeling the "off" feeling she was getting.
(( OOC: XD I totally think all this stress is going to bring out Lore's human form. *SNORT* ))

The more the girl whined, the less inclined Femi would be to pay any attention to her at all, no matter how much the near-howl grated at her nerves. She just narrowed her eyes and huggled her Alphonse, who didn't like the sound at all and made whining noises of her own.
This. This was why she didn't like Outsiders. They were nothing but trouble! Excluding her wonderful husband, of course...
Thyme figured she'd been enough of a brat to satisfy the urge... and besides, there were interesting things happening all around them involving not-Tulgey people. "Yeah, okay. That sounds good. I'm up for that. Let's follow them and see what 'Doorie' is. I think it's the scrap thing in his lap, but what it is I have no clue. You should be able to figure it out with that mighty Corvie brain of yours." She snorted, grinning. He was fun to rib.

Hatter was vaguely aware of a loud keening upstairs but he pushed the thought aside with a half-blink that winded up with him peering at the shy little bipedal whispering into her father's ear. The family, for all its strange variety, was rather adorably sweet to watch. He loved families, especially when he got to observe them from afar.
The announcement that he'd get to use the workroom, especially thanks to Sage's encouragement, had Hatter beaming again in moments. She'd give him a doll and got him access to the means to fix Doorie... Well now, he had to do something in return for her.
"Thank you both, and especially you, Miss Sage..." Lifting up to his feet, Hatter affectionately tipped his hat toward Sage. "I'd love to show you how Doorie works." He glanced smoothly back to Loreta, noting her discomfort again. Poor girl... She really wasn't very well adjusted to the Tulgey... Very few could drink it in like Hatter did. Lightly he held out a hand, easing his smile to a more comforting level. He wouldn't let anything happen to Loreta, she was too good of a friend to allow some strangers to kill her in her sleep.

Rosemary flopped on the floor with a whimper. "You're so mean Mommy."
Sage blushed as she hid behind her Daddy a bit. "You're welcome," she said as she squeezed her Daddy's hand. The brightly colored man was so terribly pretty.... and that thing he had looked almost like a doll. She really wanted to see how it worked.
Kazifel squeezed his daughters hand for a moment before picking her up in his arms. She was still light enough that he could actually deal with her weight. "If you would walk in front of me so I could make sure the rest of my family doesn't try to jump you like Rosemary tried to." He said extending his free hand and pointing in the direction of his workshop.
"Didn't he say something about dolls?" Parsley whispered as he slipped out from behind the couch. He watched his Daddy carefully. "I mean why else would he talk to Dad?"
Loreta's feathers puffed up for a moment. She just needed to relax. Hatter would make sure no one killed her.
