((XD As long as she doesn't actually make any permanent adjustments or anything...well we can discuss it over AIM if you want, haha.))
Colin merely beamed, having no inkling of any ulterior motives that Aima might have, he was merely overjoyed to be able to to share his music with someone who would be able to appreciate it. "Then please, follow me, M'lady," he intoned politely with a sweeping bow, before turned and continuing to walk back towards his apartment at a good pace. He, too, felt that nothing could ruin the happiness of this moment.
Arriving at the building, which was on the nicer side of the apartments here in Capital City, he used a key from his bag to unlock the door and held it open with a wing for Aima. "After you." Once they were both inside, he would lead her downstairs, toward the basement of the complex, where there were several doors, one leading to a laundry room, one to a janitorial closet, and one to...
"The music room!" Colin chirped, opening this door and gesturing inside. It was a spacious, well-lit room, with carpet, comfortable couches and chairs, and a wonderful grand piano in the corner. This of course, was what the Cardinal made his way over towards, and stood near it to wait for the Pine Martin to make herself comfortable while he decided what he should play. Arpeggio, with a small trill, left the bird's shoulders and hovered in the air, twisting around the room a bit, as if making sure there was nothing lurking in the corners.

Colin had such impressive manners. Aima couldn't remember the last time she met someone who had noticeable manners. He actually bowed, opened doors for her, and spoke politely! What else was such a being capable of? Well, she was about to find out. She followed him, her eyes wandering all over the place and looking curiously at all the doors in the basement. It rather reminded her of her lab.
Then they entered the music room, and her eyes had all sorts of things to look at. "Wow!" She liked the room. Between the lighting, carpet, and couches, it made for quite the comfortable room. The grand piano added grace to the whole.
Aima followed Colin over to the piano as she looked around and noticed all this, and had actually reached the piano with him before she realized she should take a seat. She picked out one of the front row seats near the middle and made herself at home. Upon settling herself her attention and eyes were all for Colin.

Having decided on a piece, Colin's smile widened. Yes, that would be perfect! Hopefully the Pine Martin would like and appreciate this one! He turned to see her settled in on one of the chairs, and his tail feathers wiggled a bit excitedly. "Ready, Miss Aima?" When she'd given her assent, the Cardinal would turn to the piano, setting his messenger bag down and shuffling through it to pull out some hand written music, setting it on the piano. "This piece is really a work in progress, so to speak, so this is actually the first time I've played it with an audience..." He half-turned to look at her, slightly nervous, but mostly excited, and then turned to the piano. "It's called 'Night of Fire'."
He began to play, then, and the full, slightly haunting melody filled the room. It would be quite the sight, since he played with his feet while hovering over the piano on wings, eyes narrowed in supreme concentration. He would trust Aima to be completely silent to listen, claws flying over the piano keys like it was the most natural thing in the world, though upon thinking about it one would realize how awkward it must have been. Arpeggio came over to flop on the top of the piano to listen, his head nodding slightly in time to the music.
When the piece ended with a flourish, Colin slowly lowered himself to the ground beside the piano bench and bowed low, eyes closed until he heard something from Aima, heart beating quickly from exertion and nerves.

What a beautiful name that was. 'Night of Fire'. Just by the name she already felt she was going to like this composition. Then it actually started, and she knew for certain that she liked it. At first the martin watched him play, watching his feet hit the keys and and use his wings for what seemed to help keep his balance. She wasn't going to start thinking of the process or details of how he did it, though. No, she remember hearing somewhere that music was meant to be listened to, not analyzed She would do that.
Aima closed her eyes lightly as she listened to the song fill her ears. The haunting melody of the song hit a chord in her, for reasons she wouldn't let herself thing about. Instead she just let it effect her however it wanted, and how amazing it was! She ended up swaying to the music, although not with the music because the martin was considerably tone deaf.
She was surprised when it ended. Over? Really? Her eyes popped open and she looked at Colin. His eyes were closed, and she wasn't quite sure why. He must just be relishing the moment of having just played it for the first time for someone. For the moment she actually forgot her plan, although she would surely remember it shortly. Until then, she looked at him with wide eyes, full of awe.
"Ohmysuits!" she slurred, talking too fast for a moment. "That was amazing! How long did it take you to compose that? Why haven't you played it for everyone else yet?"

At her startled exclamation, Colin actually jumped slightly, eyes shooting open as he turned to her. At her flattery, a deep blush spread over his cheeks, which might be slightly visible under his light purple feathers, depending how closely Aima was looking for it. He cleared his throat, bowing again until he could gain his voice. He...he'd never been -gushed- at before like that, and it was very...empowering. It made him feel as if he was suddenly walking on clouds, and he tried to tone down the huge beaming smile he wanted to give, the blush still on his face as he looked back up.
"You flatter me, Miss Aima. I'm glad that you liked it." He found, to his slight surprise, that his legs were shaking a bit, and he sat down on the piano bench, one wing making an absent gesture. "It took me...well, the idea came to me last week in a burst of inspiration and I...I just had to write it down. I haven't played it for an audience before because I...well, because it still needed a bit of work, but if you think it's performance worthy..." He grinned, eyes sparkling.

Aima's knowledge of music and compositions was that of deciding whether or not she liked something. What did she know of notes, scales, meters, or beats? Nothing! But did it sound good? Yes! So when he asked her if she thought it was performance worthy she would of course have to say it was. What else did it need? "Still needed? As in past tense? Because I can't think of a single thing I'd change!" No, of course she couldn't.
Then her plan came back into her mind. It would probably be easier to ask for his help in one of the establishments that he worked at, especially after he had just played that song. She wasn't kidding about her amazement. Everyone else would certainly enjoy it. In the heap of their applause and praise she could slip in the question. He would be on top of the world, why should he refuse her?
Actually, he already looked like he was on top of the world. "You must tell me when you'll play it next," she almost pleaded.

His blush only deepened at the compliment and he felt somewhat ashamed of this reaction. Was he really that unused to having fans? He'd need to be able to control these reactions better if he wanted to be famous! Who could respect a pianist that turned bright red and got weak in the knees from having his work praised? But praised so...sincerely and..."Well, thank you, very much! I...I suppose I have no choice but to consider it ready, then...I did...change one or two things from what I had written just now when I played it for you, so perhaps those were the changes that did it..."
On top of the world? He certainly was! He was entirely giddy, and a very small, rather embarrassing giggle would slip out, just out of pure happiness. He cleared his throat, trying to slip back into a professional demeanor despite being on cloud nine. "I suppose I could play it as soon as tomorrow night, at the piano bar I work at down on Chestnut Boulevard. It's a nice, clean little place." Was she actually so enthralled that she wanted to hear it again, then? Oh, that was just utterly fantastic! He felt like he could sing right then! Though he was luckily able to quell that urge, as anyone who had ever heard him sing...well, he didn't consider that one of his talents, and he was sure Aima's ears would thank his better judgement overcoming his silly urges.

She knew where Chestnut Boulevard was. How hard could it be to find a piano bar? And bars needed other workers besides pianists! That could be her goal. Tomorrow night would also give her time to figure out her experiment, or at least what she wanted to do. She shouldn't ask it first. That would be second to the job, and she knew just how she was going to ask for that...
Somehow he seemed unsure if the song was actually ready. Was he still having some problems with it? Or was he just trying to get used to her reaction? He needed to be used to having fans! Wasn't that what ever musician wanted? Well, she could certainly help him get used to it. It was the least she could do.
"Well I know where Chestnut Boulevard is, so I'm sure I can find it! I'll probably show up around sunset to make sure I don't miss it!"

Colin felt full to bursting with all the happy feelings he was trying to reign in, but he had to, after all, make a good show of graciously accepting praise without it going to his head or lapping it up like a dog. He did give her a wide smile. " Well, that sounds wonderful! I will hope to see you there," the Cardinal said, with a little bow in her direction. Was this really happening? It felt like a wonderful dream in a whirl of a month. Ever since moving to the Capital his life had been wonderful, and he could not be happier. " Until tomorrow, then, Miss Aima." With a salute of one wing, Colin escorted her out of the room and the building, before walking up to his apartment. Once there, he could hardly refrain from shouting joyously. Yes, it was a bit silly, even Arpeggio gave a start at first, though he happily joined it with his own little chorus of trills, enjoying the giddy atmosphere even if he had no idea what it was about, and zooming around the room. But, after all, Colin was happier than he'd been in a long time. And nothing on the visible horizon could ruin his happiness. ---- The next night, after playing a few other numbers to begin his shift, Colin glanced out the window at the other end of the room. It looked like it was getting close to sunset...he hoped she was going to show, and he skimmed the crowd seated around the bar and at the various tables in the dimly-lit room to see if he could catch a flash of brilliant blue on black, and the odd metallic gleam of the little solar panel...even if he didn't see her soon, he'd go ahead and play it... ((ooc: hope it's okay that I did a time skip to the next night. ))

((Of course. XD))
Doors slam when you fling them open, she reminded herself. She slowed down as she approached the door of what certainly looked to be the piano bar, unless there were two such bars on Chestnut Boulevard. Hopefully there wasn't.. that would create a problem. Aima's goal had been to make it before sunset, and low and behold, she'd done it!
She could have patted herself on the back.
But that might have been a bit odd, to be standing in front of a closed door and patting herself on the back and all. Instead she opened the door calmly, as though she had not been running there in a mad dash to beat the sun, and walked into the piano bar.
Dim lights, tables, bar... piano! Even better than finding that was finding Colin at the piano! She flashed him a brilliant smile and walked over to the nearest table, making a point to gaze around her surroundings in awe. Perfect place! Maybe they were hiring! When she made is to the closest open table she suddenly wondered if she was allowed to talk to him while he was working. Hesitantly, she sat down, giving Colin a look that hopefully asked whether or not she could.
