((This thread is going to be open to family members of Nikolai only though ^ ^;; I would prefer no more than two other Cards joining the thread otherwise it will ruin the purpose of trying to get to know the individuals in his family better. Thankes! <3333))Things had been interesting lately, or so the young Nikolai was prone to thinking. It never had really taken much to amuse the boy on a good day and being in the Capital had only provided the boy with more fuel. After breakfast the boy had gathered up a few of his toys to play with and then had relocated to a corner, lodging himself between the couch and wall. It was not so much that he was wanting to be alone, in fact he often enjoyed company, but more of a precaution against having his toys trodden on or destroyed. He was currently engaged in a play between two of his dolls, one oddly resembling his other papa, who he missed dearly, and the other was more a colored sock with a missing eye that was suppose to resemble some sort of mammal that only a child's mind could create.

Jak strolled down the streets of the Capital in his favorite alternate form, that of a bipedal Corvie ferret with purple markings and his glowing angler-dangler. He carried a paper bag in one hand, large and smelling like a baked good. Along the way, he hummed happily. Grandpa didn't know it, but Jak knew he was in town. He also knew when Grandpa's birthday was, since he'd asked him once during an awkward moment. He'd had a flash only an hour ago, one of his customary seizures that let him see his family, and he knew the neighborhood where he'd seen his Grandpa. He'd stared out a window in that neighborhood for the first six years of his life, never leaving. He knew exactly where that was. It had been his home. Maybe it was his Grandpa's too and that was why his Mom had lived there.. And maybe he could surprise his Grandpa for his birthday! Make a little surprise party, like he'd heard about other people doing! Amhal hadn't wanted to come, but he'd bring him back some cake. It was a Good Idea and he hadn't wanted to let the day pass him by, not with everything lining up how it needed to. Cheerful, he swung the bag's handles a little, hopefully not too hard so he didn't send the cake smooshing around to make a mess. He wasn't sure. All he knew was that, boy, his Grandpa was going to be surprised! When he reached the door of the apartment that had once, many years ago, been the only place he knew... he knocked. And waited.

He was just starting to get into his little game when he heard the knock on the door.
"I got it!" He called out, shooting up from his kneeling position and after recovering from his stumbling due to having tripped over his own feet and his extra wings unbalancing him, he shot for the door. Bending his body and having his wings spread out he aimed for getting the most air velocity that he could.
Which . . . he overestimated and unable to pull himself to a stop when he reached the door he slammed into it hard enough to create a good 'Thump' sound and cause his own beak to sting. Bringing one hand to it he tried to blink away tears that resulted from the stinging.
"I'm fine" He announced to no one in particular as he fumbled for the door handle. Yanking it open he forgot all about the pain that he had caused himself a moment before.
Tilting his head to the side so that all of his mane fell over his right shoulder he took in the stranger before him. It appeared to be a Corvie ferret of some sort, not that he was much of a judge on the matter.
"Hi," he stated more than greeted the stranger, simply starring at the man.

Jak twitched in surprise at the thundering footsteps approaching the door, and then the sudden SLAM against it that made him staaaaare at it curiously. He couldn't really imagine his grandpa doing that, but maybe if he'd just eaten a lot of sugar or something? But the noise would have been bigger, wouldn't it? Grandpa was pretty huge.
That wasn't the right voice either. He continued to stare intently, red eyes at odds with his Corvie appearance, as he jiggled the bag in his hand and waited. When the door opened, he blinked in surprise. Nope, not Grandpa.
"Hiiiiii," he greeted in return, drawing the word out for a second or two. "I'm here looking for my grandpa. You're not him. I'd guess you were related, except you're a bird, and I don't haaaave any birds in my family. Who're you? Why're you here?" Birds in their old apartment. That was pretty weird. Maybe Grandpa didn't live in here after all?

The amount of noise Nikolai made as he dashed for the door would have been entirely impossible for Seth to ignore even if he'd smoked the full pound of Midori Weed that Zuberi had dropped off for him. As it was, he was entirely sober, and the sound of his son's eager run to the door made him laugh. It was probably just someone from the court, bringing news of the latest goings-on and insanity there. Honestly, he was glad to be here. Even when things were crazy, it was nothing he couldn't deal with. He stood from his seat, setting down the letter from Heilyn and raising an eyebrow. From the tone in Nikolai's voice, it wasn't someone the boy knew. Which probably meant they weren't from the court. Seth raised an eyebrow as he walked to the door as well. " Who is it, Nik?[/b]" he asked, then froze when he was close enough to see who was standing in the doorway. If he'd been wearing any form other than the bipedal purple ferret, Seth probably wouldn't have recognized him. But this was one of his grandson's favored shapes, and he knew in an instant who was there. " ...Hullo, Jak.[/b]" he finally said, nearly choking on the words. At least Amhalghaidh wasn't with him... That would probably be more than he could take.

Giving a smile he tossed his hair over his shoulder in a move that he was practicing to make smooth. "Why are you looking for your grandpa here? No one lives here but Daddy Seth and of course I am not him. I am Nik. Well Nikolas, but you can just call me Nik." He gave a nod of his head before glancing over his shoulder. The fact that he was a bird was an obvious one so he left that matter alone.
Ignoring the fact that the stranger had not given his name, he answered his father's question with a smile. "It's just someone named Antonio" With the job well done, at least in his eyes, his smile seemed to beg a praise from his father acknowledging the fact.
"Hi Jak" He greeted properly this time copying his fathers words.

Daddy Seth? Daddy Seth?! Jak stared at the bird, his muzzle dropping open a tiny bit in shock, red eyes wide and a little creepy as he looked the Highlander up and down. "Noooo. No waaaaaaay. Nik? He's your what now?"
And then the man himself appeared behind this unexpected relation, and Jak couldn't help but beam and bounce on the balls of his bipedal ferret feet before dashing past Nikolai and leaping at Seth, arms going around his neck in a tight hug. "GRAMPA!" The bag in his hand swung around with the motion and smacked against the human's back, making the Joker twitch in surprise and move back. He stared at the now-unsettled bag in his hand with a touch of distress. "Oh... oh. Uh. Aww, damn it. This was supposed to be yours, Grampa. It still is. Um. Happy birthday?" He held the bag towards Seth, with its cake askew and part of it smearing against the side of the plastic.
At the same time, he couldn't help but twist his head half-around to stare at the eagle again, giving him a much more detailed once-over.

Antonio? Seth stared from the ferret-Jak to his son and back again, blinking slowly. Maybe he had gotten into the weed and had just... forgotten about it, because he could have sworn it was his grandson that was standing there, not some... Antonio.
But it had to be Jak, as soon as he opened his mouth and started to speak. For a moment, the man almost shivered, but there wasn't time for that. After all, Jak threw himself at the man with such a rush that Seth's air escaped him in a quiet "oof!" of surprise. Then he laughed, returning the hug. It was easier when the Joker wore a normal shape like this one, he'd found. When he moved back, Seth looked at the bag for a long minute, then reached out to take it. "You remembered,[/b]" he said, blinking. He himself hadn't even remembered, but now that he thought about it... Wow. "Besides, smashed cake is still edible.[/b]"
Seth glanced down at his son and smiled at the boy, putting on hand on his head and affectionately smoothing the boy's mane. "Jak, this is my son, but I'm guessing you've already met. Jak is... family, Nik. Come on in.[/b]"
He had no idea that Jak would be completely familiar with the apartment.

Such a strange creature. Why was it hard to believe that Seth was his daddy and then go call him grandpa. He had thought you had to be a dad first in order to be a grandpa . . . Shaking his head at the confusing line of thoughts he watched what was going on curiously.
For some reason he could not explain to himself, the Highlander could feel himself starting to pout at the attention that his daddy was giving to the stranger. When his dad turned and ruffled his hair though he forgave the stranger.
"Cake?" He chirped up. Cake was a good thing. Following after his daddy like a puppy he paused for a moment to toss his hair over his shoulder as he turned to look at the stranger. "Daddy says you are family that means you can be my brother!" He decided in a way that was purely childlike.

Jak blossomed under Seth's attention, grinning with his little ferret needle teeth in a manner that was just a little too wide to be normal, a remnant of his normal smile creeping through as much as the muzzle allowed. He'd made him laugh! He'd made him happy! Grampa was smiling! Even if part of it was the fault of the other Highlander, he didn't care because they were both happy and that was what mattered more than anything in the world. Because if they weren't, he would have to make them happy. Now he could float along and just enjoy!
"Smashed cake's better than fuzzy cake," he agreed, thinking of one particularly awesome dumpster-dive when he'd been younger and its disastrous results a few hours later all over the floor. He followed right after Seth like some sort of demented duckling, grinning like a fool and so very happy. Red eyes focused on the bird when Seth yet again called him family, that magical word that changed absolutely everything.
"Niiiiiik. Niki. Niki-bird. Birdnik." He played with that on his tongue for a second, then snorted and shook his head. "Nooooo. We're family, but I already haaaave a brother. I have twoooooo. You're not them. But you can be something else. Maybe. Yeah? I dunno what you are. Family." He grinned and reached out to touch curiously at one of the bat wings on the boy. "These remind me of Moooom, though. Grampa, did everybody get these from you? Dell says hi, by the way. I had to leave her at home and she didn't want to stay, but people staaaaare when she comes outside and it wasn't a good idea when I had to get a cake."
