She had always known that if you acted like you belonged somewhere, you could slip by almost anyone unnoticed. It was by this principal that she and her brother had slipped into the great Court of Diamonds and were now parading through the halls, Ceren acting as though everything there belonged to her. Life here was so different from everything that she was used to, so much busier and more glamorous... Even the attendants that scurried past seemed so much more than her dull mother and even duller sister. Once, she would have said that her brother fell into that category, but he was full of surprises, and the most recent of them was the fact that he had come to this beautiful place with her in an attempted truce between them. It had worked wonders, and when she glanced at her brother the look of condescendence that had once filled her gaze was gone, replaced only with a glimmer of familial affection. Her almost sadistic mischeif was still shining in every aspect of her glance, though, and her mouth curved slowly into a wide grin. They would have no trouble finding some sort of trouble to get into in this busy place, some card to follow and milk information of any kind out of. She was hungry for power, and she knew that the easiest method of gaining power was information. Her ideal plan would be to follow some higher up, and learn some unpalatable secrets that could easily be used in her favor as soon as she was old enough... " So... who's our target?"

The tiny sparrow was in a state of awe at the court of diamonds. He watched as people scurried by, leaving the pair unnoticed. Zane couldn't help but wonder what it was like in the court of spades... maybe one day he would find out. He somehow felt a bit closer to his sister. She had always been on such a high horse since the moment they were born. He could only imagine what living with her constantly was like. Of course, it seemed that in the court of diamonds there was no time for wondering. Zane watched as his sister's excitement grew. This was definitely the life for her. If it were the life for him... that was yet to be seen. Now, his sister wanted a good target to exploit. Heaven forbid he make an awful choice. "Perhaps we could ask that kindly looking ten there..." Zane pointed to a young man, a canine who was similar to a gray hound. He looked busy enough to gloss over the spade and actually talk to the lovely Ceren. ((OOC: So, um, just to warn you I have to write 2,000 words a day. So, um... yeah.))

((no worries, darling <3 just reply when you feel you have the motivation to do so.))
It took the normally swift-tongued Ceren a moment before she even glanced over at the card which Zane had spoken of, her mind completely crowded with the thoughts that buzzed in her head and the sights and sounds that seemed to overwhelm her senses. When she turned her head to look over their chosen victim, her joy only seemed to be amplified. He was clearly some kind of attendant to some noble of the court, and only an eight... Surely, he would do whatever she asked of him!
Nodding to her bat-winged brother, she moved towards the slightly downtrodden looking canine, who at the moment seemed to be counting the number of panes of glass in a large window. As the little sparrow neared the man she shot one last grin at her brother, and then the expression melted as if it had never been there, replaced by a wide-eyed, childlike stare of wonder.
"Mister? Excuse me, mister?" she chirruped, her voice sliding into a tone that Zane would recognize as the one that she had so often used to melt their parent's hearts, assuring them that she was a good girl. It was the best weapon in her arsenal. As the hound turned to look at her, his expression of hurried boredom slid away, replaced first with one of confusion and then by one of bewildered respect at the tiny ten. "My brother and I want to see the King, mister. Can you help us find him, maybe?"
She did not dare to look at her brother as she spoke, as she knew that the instant that she did the look on his face as she spoke of a desire to meet with the king would make her laugh, ending their little game here and now. As long as she could keep up the role, nothing could stop them... Well, other than their father, but with any luck he would never know about this.

((... I meddle with Kari's endorsement. XD; <3))
The greyhound's expression switched yet again from bewilderment to a sudden brightening. "So you're the ones I was waiting for! I can't believe how right he was. I mean, sixteen hundred forty-two is an odd number, and it took a while to count that far, but here you are, just as he predicted! What a wise teacher. Can't believe I thought he was a lazy fraud before..."
That last bit was muttered, the canine stepping away from his contemplation of the myriad window tiles. He looked down at them, eying them up, and then shook his head in bemusement. "I suppose you'd better come with me, then. Maybe King Vestra wanted to see you from the beginning and my training was just a means? Or maybe I'm the catalyst? Who's to say?"
In actual fact, this man was a student of magic within the courts, his interests nearly impossible to distinguish from the normal attire of a courtier or attendant. He looked at the two of them expectantly.

Good. Job. Ceren. Good freaking job. Zane's expression could not match his frantic emotions. His sister had just gone up to a stranger with her sugary sweet act, and the stranger had just mistaken the both of them for actually people with an appointment.
Unless the King was psychic. Zane somehow doubted this, and he highly doubted that his sister had a clever way out of this. He highly doubted he was clever enough to get out of this mess. Oh well, he would just roll with it.
"We're really sorry we're late," Zane said with a grin. "My sister and I had a difficult time traveling from The Forest. But... I thought..."
He looked at his sister to finish his sentence. Hopefully she would catch on. Thank god she had asked the right question, otherwise they could have easily been thrown out. The courts was a busy place, but Zane didn't doubt that if they were caught, no one would hesitate to throw them out.
And now they were off to see the King! Joy!

((hehee, yaaaay!! <3 XD))
She was almost as stunned as her brother, but for a completely different set of reasons. Her ploy had worked, and now they were actually going to meet the king!! Things could not have even possibly have gone better, even if their guide seemed to be more than a little... out there to the young sparrow. Delight shone across her face as she beamed up at the man.
When Zane spoke, she looked back in surprise. Was he trying to ruin this?! She wouldn't ever forgive him if he did, but then the words he spoke just fed directly into the beauty of her plan. As he hesitated, she gave him a look, searching his face for any idea of what she was to say. It was almost as if he wanted out, but was giving her an opportunity to keep going with things.
"We can talk about that later, ok?" she shot a glance at him, eyes daring him to say another word. "Lead on, mister.... uhm...?" she smiled innocently at the greyhound, searching his face for some emotion as she delicately asked his name.
The king... Next she just needed to gain them a meeting with the Queen herself!

"Kwentin will be fine," the greyhound said with a smile and an absent wave of one furry hand-paw. "And actually, you're right on time. Almost early, in fact! He told me I'd probably have to close my eyes and concentrate for a little while after hitting that number before you appeared, but here you are. Admittedly, you're not what I would have imagined as 'spiritual advisers', but I've never met one before. So. Pleased to meet you."
With a little half-bow at the waist, the bipedal canine waved them on and began walking through one of the corridors of the Diamond palace he apparently knew well. Between the elegant decor and his 'successes' - not one, but two advisers, and right on cue! - his tail was wagging happily.
They eventually reached a door in the nicer end of the palace obviously to a suite, and the canine knocked excitedly. "Your Highness? I've found them! May I come in?"

His sister did a fantastic job on picking out the craziest man possible. And she was obviously thrilled. Zane beat down the panic that was raising in his stomach. They were going to see the King.
They were at the freaking door. What the hell was he supposed to do in a situation like this? He could not walk away now, he was already mistaken for someone's spiritual guide. This could go worse if he even bothered to open his mouth.
He would let Ceren do all of the talking. Otherwise he might just pass out from sheer terror. He hardly needed to make a fool of himself in front of the king.
Wait. Wait a second. Didn't dad say that he had plans of making something of himself in court? OH LORD. If his dad made it into the courts... this meant that the king would already know who Zane was. The young sparrow was visibly shaken by the thought, as tears began to well in his eyes. He tried his best to hide them, hopefully no one would notice.

Ceren nodded to the greyhound, smiling sweetly as he introduced himself. She felt sure that whatever it was that the King expected of the two of them, they could easily become. Her brother was clever, she would give him at least that much. As the trio made it through the halls, the little sparrow hopping and skipping to keep pace with the long-legged canine, her grin only widened. In some ways, even she found it to be difficult to believe that her plan was working so well.
When they reached the door, the bird stared at it in wonder, her heart beginning to flutter in her feathery breast at the elegance of the place. She had never seen the King before, and she began to wonder exactly what to expect. Shaking slightly to smooth her feathers into place, she shot Zane a small smile of excitement. "Don't look so scared, Zane, it'll go wonderfully. I promise."
She had no idea how far into the court their father had progressed, but she felt confident at least that if they were to find themselves in a troublesome spot, all it would take to bring them to safety would be a call to the sparrow. How perfect. How absolutely divine.

Kwentin seemed completely oblivious to the one young bird's upset and the other's excitement. He shifted anxiously in front of the door, lost to his own glee, and nearly barreled in as soon as permission sounded through the marble. His tail wagged a mile a minute and he grinned an open-mouthed canine grin, dropping into a swift bow before jumping back up. "Your Highness! I'm so very pleased. May I introduce to you the two spirit guides that just happened upon me in front of the window?" He indicated the two birds behind him.
Propped up on a cushion with a newspaper resting in his lap and a cup of tea sitting next to him, Vestra raised one eyebrow slowly and put the paper on the floor next to his tea. "Kwentin," he said slowly, pushing himself to a more 'sitting' rather than 'lounging' position. "I think that perhaps you misunderstood what I meant by the term 'spirit guides'."
While the canine froze to puzzle over the King's words, he turned his attention to the children and smiled. "Greetings to you regardless, my young birds! I'm sure this is going to be quite an interesting story! Why don't you introduce yourselves and tell me how you became this poor man's spirit guides? Are you hungry? Would you like some lunch, or some breakfast? How about tea?"
