Zane had half a mind to burst out into tears. This was not the situation he wanted to be in. He really didn't do well with other people. His sister had the diamond charm, he had... what did he have?
"Hello, Your Highness," Zane managed looking at the man rather meekly. He wasn't intimidating at all, he was just... something new. And Royalty. He should be respected and all of that jazz that father mentioned briefly. "T-thank you. I think tea would be nice." He wasn't hungry with all of this distress. How could he be? He was meeting a King alongside his sister in the Diamond Courts. Still absolutely terrifying. That was a bit of an understatement actually.
Oh! He forgot to say his name! And that was the first thing he should have said. Manners, damnit, he still wasn't very good about those. "My name is Zane, and this is my sister Ceren."

Ceren found herself gawking slightly at the king that sat before them. The richness of his clothing was outmatched only by the red marking emblazoning his breast, and Ceren felt a pang of something deep in her own breast - was it envy? She really did long to have a similar symbol replacing the one that currently decorated her form.. Shaking her head to clear her busy daydreams, the little sparrow remembered herself just in time to bow to the man, a small and childlike "Your Highness," escaping her beak along with a small chirp.
Oh, God, that was embarassing.
As her brother introduced them, Ceren nodded in another small bow as he managed to speak her name. "It's a real honor to meet you, Your Highness!" she added, an excited smile crossing her beak. The King seemed to be a rather jovial fellow, and he was asking them to have breakfast or lunch with them?! She glanced at Zane, her smile only growing. It seemed to say, in no uncertain terms, that he was the best brother ever for suggesting that they leave the forest. "Yes, tea would be wonderful. If it isn't too much trouble," she added quickly. Couldn't let her excitement get the best of her, no no.

"Zane, Ceren... it's a pleasure to meet a pair of bright, aspiring young Diamonds! Does me good to see the younger generation with such an interest in the Courts. Even if you have to go through poor Kwentin. I'm sure the misunderstanding was on his end, regardless." Vestra turned his attention to the thoroughly lost-looking Villa male and smiled consolingly. "It's alright, young man! I'll tell you what. If you go and meet with Marjorie down the hall, she can tell you what a spirit guide is. Then you can come back, explain to me why these children couldn't possibly be what you're looking for, and we can try again. Alright?"
Nodding in a befuddled sort of way, the greyhound turned and left the room. He was just too confused for words. Hadn't he... found...?
The King watched him go and sighed, feline lips twitching upward in a smile. He summoned a bright blue ball, very obviously magical. "Two teacups, if you wouldn't mind!" It whizzed away, leaving him regarding the pair. Lakeland sparrows... and one a mix, for sure, the other pure. Only one other sprang immediately to mind. "The two of you wouldn't happen to be related to anyone with a title, now would you?" he asked mildly, taking another sip of his tea. The newspaper was discarded.

Zane stared for a long moment, waiting for his sister to reply. When it didn't come quick enough he spoke up. "Er... our father is Theofilus. He took the Jack quest recently..." he said quietly. He wasn't as confident as he should be. Ceren would probably make up for it. She did have the tendency to over compensate for him.
The little sparrow had no idea why he was so terrified. It was probably just because he wasn't used to authority figures and all that. It just made him weary of everything that he ever did. And royalty? This was just absolutely terrifying.
It never really occurred to Zane that the feline in front of him was probably the nicest person in the Diamond palace or at least, the person who wasn't going to kick him out of the palace. Fear was one of those lovely illogical things that he had to get over someday.

Zane could never be disappointed when it came to his expectations of his sister. When his voice began its gradual fade into nothingness, Ceren chirped again. It seemed that it was a habit she'd never be able to break, but that was unimportant for now. She was a sparrow, it came with the territory. At least her chirp wasn't as girly as Ez's...
"We want to go to the courts too! When we're a little older, anyway" she nodded with some excitement, nudging Zane slightly. He needed to lighten up a little! Where the realization that King Vestra was a fairly kind man had completely missed her mixed brother, it hit Ceren dead on. If anything, that just added to her excitement. Surely, he wouldn't object to her putting words into his mouth - she was just sure that he did have ambitions for the courts. After being here for only several minutes, her own desires had been nearly completely cemented into place.
After a small moment which the little bird seemed to use to catch her breath, eyes still flickering eagerly across the room and staring at the moving teacups, she raised her eyes to the feline once more. "Do you know our father? He's a good man." she chirped again. It seemed she did that more and more when she was excited...
