Hey all, thank your local firefighter today because my neighbor's house is ON FIRE. I smelled something strange and then heard sirens, so I poked my head out the window and the house on the corner had SMOKE furling out the top.
There are 3 firetrucks here and at least a dozen firefighters or more, not to mention the local sheriff (I live in a BIG city- I don't know how they can spare all these guys!) and they carried hatchets, chainsaws;etc into the house. Luckily, the people on either side (all the houses in this neighborhood are duplexes and double-stories built side-by-side) were notified and got out. I think everyone's safe, but hopefully they'll be able to put everything out soon...
How's that for a Monday?! D:

O.O WOW. That must have been just slightly unnerving to happen right next door! I'm glad everyone is okay, geez.

A couple years ago a guy down the street had his shed start on fire. It was really freaky - they blocked the street off and everything. x3 I feel your pain!

Oh jeez. ; I've never had a fire in my neighborhood, but I've seen lots of cop cars come to arrest someone a few houses down. I think the guy went nuts and they were trying to get him to come out of the house. Glad everyone's okay, though, don't let it get you down about the rest of the week?!

Oh, I won't let me get it down. I just was shocked that it was happening, especially considering all the firefighters that poured out of nowhere.
It seems like everything went okay, though the fire department dragged out a huge pile of burnt items. They finally left about an hour ago. It was just.. odd. It's not everyday you see smoke pouring from your neighbor's rooftop and a firefighter clambering up the truck ladder to said roof. O.o;;

ahahaha that's ridiculous
When I was in NC one summer some kids next door were playing with bottlerockets in the high VERY DRY dead grass and then when it (of course) caught fire, they tried to put it out with water squirt-guns and by beating it with the lid of those turtle shaped kiddie sandboxes. that was a really odd day.

Doode, quite a few years ago when I lived with my cousin there was a pretty large shed about two houses down that ended up ENGULFED IN FLAMEZ!
The street was definitely blocked off while the firemen fought the fire. But man, and I felt bad for the owner, but it was hella fun to watch it burn!
"We don't need no water, let the mother fucker burn. Burn, mother fucker. Burn!"

I know! You can't help but watch the destruction. Makes me feel bad for rubbernecking.
Funny thing- I was making tea when it happened and ran out to my backyard (teaspoon in hand) shouting at my housemates, boyfriend and their friends that our neighbor's house was on fire and bolted back upstairs to gawk out the window. I was holding a SPOON.
Bottle rockets and dry grass?! ARGH. Teh stupid people... That's why I hate it when I go hiking and people are smoking and whatnot. It's like, HELLO, did you NOT see the "Extremely High" fire warning sign? This entire field will be ON FIRE if you drop a single ember!!
*sighs* At least our fire department was quick to the fix- I just hope that our neighbors have insurance! The cost for damages must be incredible!! D:
