Because I hadn't realized some of the members didn't know about this list. o___o Colored speech text tends to make posts loads easier for other RPers to read and glean speech from/spark memories. There are lots of lists out there, but using colors with names instead of hexes is a lot easier to remember. Here is a list of colors, all of which have names that proboards recognizes: cloford.com/resources/colours/namedcol.htm

As Jenn's posted, that list is absolutely amazing for picking colors for your character's text. But that's only the first half of the process! How do you use a huge list like that to choose the best color for your character? This is a process that Jenn recently showed me, and I find it to be incredibly helpful in narrowing down your choices and making sure you have something that'll really work. The first step is to look through the list and pick out shades that you guess will work nicely. Use the character's main color, marking color, eye color, mane color, WHATEVER. It's all fair game! I guess you could even use something totally unrelated, if that idea were to strike your fancy. Now, you'll want to make a blind post - this is a new topic that'll never actually be posted, it's entire purpose is to be previewed and modified and previewed again. In this post, you'll want to have your character's picture, followed by a line of text in the color you're comparing. Put lots of colors in this. Put all the ones you're considering in! Using my new girlie, Jordan, as an example, this is the kind of result you'll get: Is this me? Is this me? Is this me? Is this me? Is this me? When you set it up like this, it's easy to compare the character to the colors you've chosen. Now you get to use the process of elimination to chip away at the list. Prime options are ones that perhaps don't match as well as you'd hoped, or just don't appeal to you. Hopefully, using this, you'll be able to whittle the list down to the color you want. But what do you do if you end up with one or two colors you like? Is this me? Is this me? This is where you can use other factors to decide. In my example, I have a lot of characters who speak with blue text. A lot of them. Really. So I decided to go with salmon as Jordan's color, just to bring in some variety. Alternately, I might have chosen it as she owns a salmon fishery - that makes it easy to remember the color linked to her. If all else fails, getting the opinion of a friend can sometimes make that tiebreaker a little bit simpler. Happy hunting! <3

o.o Huh, thanks! I was just using hexes...didn't know you could have a lot of named colors, haha. I'll hafta look!
And thanks Xenon, that's actually a really good idea! XD And can also help you make sure the color you picked isn't going to be blindingly bright on a white background lol.
