Summer in the Midori was one of those times that one either loved or hated. It was almost tortuously sunny, heating up the pristine Midori sands to a point that they burned even the leathery feet of quadrupeds. It was during these times that the common rainshowers were welcomed to cool down the hot Midori air. The stormclouds were rolling back from wence they came, traveling on the wind to the depths of the ocean to allow the sun to shine once more. Zuberi opened the shutters to her hut, allowing the humid air to waft into her humble home. Inhaling the fresh smell of home, her human face broke out into a smile. The brat is coming. the lone skull on her wing hissed. The thing had been incredibly jealous and of ill temper when his companion had attached itself to her daughter. She'd been tempted to just lock the thing up in a chest and never let it out. "Quiet, you." Zuberi growled through her teeth, turning her head as Davy rounded the corner. Of course, he wasn't quite all there. He wandered around, only half visible. His paws reached out for things, but went straight through them. He'd been this way for hours... the exact same thing that had happened to him yesterday. And the day before, and the day before that. It'd happened since the day he was born, turning completely see-through and unable to be picked up or soothed. It had been the scariest day of her life. But the skull... She grimaced. But even that hadn't been so bad as thinking her son would just.. fade away. Zuberi had fretted and worried for weeks, but it was the same every day even if the timing seemed absolutely random. It was within two months of their births that she had to accept her son's strange condition, and the fact that the damned skull had firmly attached itself to her daughter. Finding peace in these things, she found herself otherwise... happy. Even when Pinkbeard faded from the mortal world, there was a joy that overwhelmed any sadness at his leaving her. After all, she would only be without him for this lifetime. And let us face it; she was already halfway through it. The Midori squirrel continued to watch as Davy slumped, curling up onto the floor in an attempt to rest even as his ears twiched, as if alert to something around him. What did he see or hear, when in that phase? He was not always able to explain it, and sometimes it was so upsetting a thing to bring up that it was easier to let the boy have some peace. Well, at least he was getting his 'episode' over and done with in the morning time. She could take both the children out on a boat ride without fear of him falling through the boat. ((I'm not entirely sure if Davy can hear and see others while in this form so I'm not going to make assumptions till I know for sure XD))

After several moments had passed with her brother curled up on the floor, Uluani slowly stepped out of the doorway he'd recently vacated and walked over to stare at him. She reached out a paw to poke at his insubstantial form, which she knew he didn't like, and then stuck her whole paw into him before scampering back to the door with a mean little giggle. Juall always seemed to think it was funny when she did that. He didn't talk around Mamma, but he told her afterwards. He was always telling her things. Some of them scared her. Some of them were funny. Some of them she just didn't understand. She asked Mamma once what a 'trashy whore' was and that didn't go over so well. Really, she was bored today. She couldn't do anything with her brother right now and she couldn't leave, so she sat in the doorway and flapped her wing until her mother looked at her. It also had the added benefit of cooling her off in the heat. "Mamma, I'm bored," she whined with a hint of pleading. "Can we do sometin' today?"

Davy's mouth opened in a silent wail, eyes following his sister sorrowfully as she padded her way over to mother. Sometimes she could be so mean to him, especially when in a form that he could do nothing about it. Standing up, he followed after her, hoping that perhaps his angry stare would pierce though the back of her evil little head.
Bored. Did she say bored? He thought so anyways; it was hard to hear others when on the other side.
"Don't go anywhere without me!" He pleaded, but his plea went unanswered. His mother looked to him with that sad expression... the one that always confirmed that there was something going terribly wrong with him.
"I hear in Kahmden, when a child says that they are bored, they are given a chore." Zuberi said with motherly warning, her brow arching up as she evaluated the girl's expression. Her stern look would dissolve before the girl could go into some cussing fit, instead standing up and walking closer to the both of them to kneel down on the floor.
"Well then, do you expect me to come up with somet'ing for you to do? Dat doesn't do much for your creativity, does it?"
Davy's chest was beginning to move sporadically in a threat to begin crying. It broke her heart. "Don't worry, Davy, it'll be over soon!" She had to yell slightly to get him to hear her, but he looked up at the noise, ears pinning back sadly. She wanted to hug him to let him know it was alright, but she couldn't. Not yet anyways. He wasn't really there just yet.
Speaking of not there... where was Xolani? "Uluani, where is your sister and Charlie?" Yes, and Charlie. If Xolani wasn't firmly stuck to her mother, it would be the little chicken ace that became her strange little Guardian. It gave her a certain level of freedom, at least. To be able to walk around and enjoy the outside without being fearful. And without her having to be around. It was a welcome reprieve from a child she no doubt loved, but also gave her painful remembrance of a night she'd rather forget.

Failing deliberately to notice her brother's glare, the child stared up at her mother and frowned. That wasn't the answer she was hoping for at all. A chore? She didn't want to do chores. That wouldn't make her not-bored, that would just make her angry. Her tail fluffed up a little, but calmed again when her mother moved closer and looked at her more closely.
Her creativity? But Mamma got angry sometimes when she was creative. Usually Juall helped her with being creative, and those always seemed to go the worst. She wouldn't say that, though. She didn't like to bring him up to Mamma. They really didn't get along at all and she didn't want her to get serious about the chores as a distraction. Opening her mouth to say something, she shut it and turned to glare at her brother. They always had to yell when he was like that. It hurt her ears sometimes.
"I dunno where dey are," she replied with a small frown. "Dey wen' off somewhere. Maybe still inside? I can check." Tell them that Mamma was looking for them and they'd best hurry because she'd been looking for a while and she was starting to get annoyed. She still didn't know a lot about her sister, but she knew it would make Charlie scuttle back to him.
Generally she avoided Xolani when she could. The skull on her face made her wonder sometimes if she had somebody like Juall in her head and that was why Mamma didn't like her very much.

Zuberi's expression gave a visible twitch. Did she really have to find the girl? She was alright with Charlie after all, wasn't she? After all, it wasn't often that Zuberi was able to go out with just the two of her pure Midori children.
"Ah-ne... I'm sure she's fine. I'll just write a note so she'll know where we are." Reaching out, she smoothed out the fur on the small girl's back with her webbed hand. Goodness knew the children didn't groom themlselves as regularly as they should; she found herself reflexively smoothing their often tussled fur out for them. Especially little Davy, who had to be watched carefully in the evenings to make sure he brushed out his mane. It didn't take her long to realize the fine stuff didn't turn into locks like most Midori but rather just -tangled- if not cared for.
"How does a boatride sound, hmm? Perhaps we'll take a few of the traps out and see what we catch? How does that sound?"
Davy tilted his head to the side, attempting to read his mother's lips. He hadn't been quite sure what she'd said... but she was smiling. Perhaps this meant something good?

Uluani paused and leaned happily into her mother's touch. Oh, that was nice. So long as she didn't have a bristle in her hand, the girl liked a good pet. She fluffed her tail at Zuberi and smiled, a rare sweet and childish expression on her normally sour face. The eyes would have ruined it for most people, but not the one who counted. She did love her Mamma.
...especially when she wanted to go out and do something fun! The girl hopped once, four legs landing and bracing in an excited stance. "Oh, ya! Dat sounds like fun! Mebbe we can catch some crabs!" The girl loved to break open the shells and squirrel out the delicious crab meat. Not only were they tasty, but they were entertaining food. And throwing them live into the pot made her laugh because they always tried to scuttle away and they couldn't. And then they turned colors.
They wouldn't have to go with Xolani and Charlie, either. That would be neat!

Zuberi let out a delightful laugh, hand going in for a well aimed scritch at the base of that long squirrelly tail. "Aye, we very well can! Been a while since we've eaten something in a shell. In fact, too long."
She went to very quickly jot a note down. Hopefully the Hisstor girl wouldn't be too terribly put off by being left behind, but then again it would serve the young girl right for wandering off and not telling her mother where she was! Or at least, that was Zuberi's excuse. Too often she'd done the same thing at her age. Then again she wouldn't have freaked out if her mother had went off somewhere without her. Pinning the note to the door and slinging her supplies over her shoulder.
"Alright you two, come on."
Davy's tail gave a soft flick, a smile gracing his ghostly face. Obviously they were going -somewhere-. His laugh was one that could not be heard by those around him, spreading his tiny wings as he ran.. making sure the end of one wing went straight through his sister's head. Nyeh!

Uluani's tail twitched spasmodically as Mamma scratched her butt, giving a pleased little tooth-grind until she stopped. Then she gave the woman an affectionate nip before scampering away and giggling. The prospect of going out and catching dinner had cheered her up immensely. She hopped a few times, jumping from side to side, and then ran around her brother in a tight circle before ending up wound in Zuberi's legs. And then out again. Zoom!
She shrieked as a wing suddenly appeared out of her head and chased after her brother, flapping and snapping at a body that wasn't really there. Every chance she got, she pounced into him like a brat. Anything to pester. She could hear Juall muttering next to her though it was too quiet to make out the words. He probably didn't want Mamma to pay attention. She could make out the snickering, though. That was always distinct. He had one that didn't sound like anybody else's.
As soon as they were near the boat, she would jump inside and race from one end to the other a few times before pawing at Zuberi's skirt eagerly.

Davy wailed silently as a body went straight through his. Not fair, not fair! Running as fast as he could, he leapt up into the air to clear the edge of the boat and toward his sister... He landed spot on where she stood, harrumphing haughtily before slipping out of the space that her mass took up. His paws then went on to test the bottom of the boat. His hands would only go so far though. Good! Perching up on his hind feet he looked out to the sea expectantly. Nothing was better than going out to sea!
Sure.. Zuberi could have told the two to play nice.. but what was the point? They'd only stay still for a full five minutes before going right back at it again. She rolled her eyes, though the motion could hardly be seen, and gave a smile as she settled herself into the boat to offload her equipment.
Davy leapt forward, squeezing into the lobster cage and held her paws up at the bars. His mouth moved, but though Zuberi couldn't hear them she was sure it was something along the line of 'look, ma! I'm in jail!
" You realy -will- be stuck if you come back while in there!"
Perhaps she jinxed the boy; as soon as he decided to start backing out.. it actually happened.
"Augh! Mama, get me out! SHUT UP Uluani!" Whether she had actually started laughing or it was reflex, he glared toward his sister.
"Oh.. drat."
Once Davy was finally shaken loose from the lobster cage, they were finally able to push off. The waters were a little rocky, but that was to be expected right after a storm. The real reason to get out would be because the lobsters and crab would be finding their way out from their hiding places looking for all of the food that was washed up from the churning waters.
"So, how have my little waterbrats been doin'? I feel like I never get to talk to you guys."
((Hooray for dice rolling XD It's the perfect way to decide whether Davy fades in or out.))

Settling up right next to her mother's leg, Uluani had a prime view as her brother came back to himself. Inside the lobster cage. Right after Mamma told him not to play there.
She cracked up in tandem with the skull perched on her wing, each set of laughter feeding the other. Her laughing didn't stop until Mamma gave her a Look that meant business, and even then she curled up and snickered into her tail until he was free. "Lobster-face," she hissed at him after he'd gotten settled, grinning like an evil little imp. She laid off after that, paying more attention to her surroundings than her brother.
Choppy water was the best! She hopped on the boat, rocking it back and forth until she was told to stop, and then leaned against Zuberi happily as the water sprayed a little bit into the boat.
"We's good, Mamma!" she replied enthusiastically. "I made sand castles all day yesta'day! Dey was huge! An' den I smashed 'em dead 'cause dey was bad people livin' inside." She'd filled the windows with little sand crabs before wreaking havoc on their bad crabby civilization. It was punishment for being easy to catch.
