Harold running his fingers through his hair distracted Felaria the tiniest bit. Such hair. And so much of it. The thought diffused a tiny bit of her tension. Not much, but... it was something. She leaned - or huddled - a little closer to him.
"If he lives in a freakin' graveyard an' he don't know nothin' about any ghosts 'round here, he ain't worth talkin' to, lover. I can't be the first spook he ever saw." Having to hear everything the man said about ghosts through Harold was going to be annoying as hell, especially because he'd be listening and not necessarily relating everything as it came out. So he'd hear things he'd probably forget to mention to her. At least she trusted him to say anything important. He wouldn't hold out on her on purpose.
Damn, she didn't even know what direction to properly glare in. Not fair. She was the only one 'deprived' here.

Javaid's studies were, sadly, only half realized. He'd read every text he could get his paws on since he'd first discovered his unusual ability to see the departed but still his knowledge was so lacking. At a young age he discovered the flaw in asking a mourning individual about their dead companions - most cards didn't want to admit they could see the dead, it was a subject of insanity.
"I'm afraid my knowledge is entirely textbook - nothing I'm sure your Esterberry libraries aren't able to obtain, but I welcome you to my scripts any time. They range drastically from blatant fantasy to religious texts, though I have a rare few that seem to be factual text, but they are mostly incomplete and entirely one-sided. It seems very few ghosts are able to be seen outside of their chosen Haunt and methods of helping them on are ultimately varied. Though, by what you've said, it doesn't seem as if you're looking to help her pass on." This, of course, made the situation veer drastically from what Javaid did know and left him in more... abstract knowledge. "What it does sound like, however, is a curse and, at best, all I could offer you is rumors of spiritualists that might be able to break a curse."
Javaid would watch Felaria from the corner of his eye as he spoke with Harold, studying her movements and her expressions with intense interest. It still amazed him that he had such a valuable resource before him... even though she was probably as confused by the situation as her Haunt was; not to mention that Golfram's weren't exactly known for their general desire to help Outsiders
"The few physical encounters I have with ghosts are, unfortunately, rather brief and incomplete. Every hundred funerals or so they come through with a haunt - their attachments vary with each ghost from lost spouses to... I've presumed... bitter enemies, or worse. But I've never been given the chance to communicate directly with a spirit - they seem completely unaware of me and likewise I'm unable to hear anything they say. My ability only grants me the ability to watch... so far. Felaria would be the only ghost I'd be able to communicate with yet - and that would only be possible through you."

Disappointment.
No it was much more than just that. Harold could feel his heart sinking as the Hisstor spoke. Felaria's comment only made him sink into the chair even more. He could feel the tiny bit of hope that he had managed to find in actually finding a rumor that was true....
He should have known better. His fingers slipped into his hair as he tried to find the proper words. Maybe he should take a look at some of these things. It couldn't exactly hurt considering he came all his way. And it wasn't like he had any other place to find out what this nightmare was....
Maybe he wasn't the right person at all.
"So you've never actually... been able to communicate with someone who was haunted." He looked over at Felaria, the disappointment a clear read. "And you think this is more of a curse than anything else? There's absolutely nothing you can think of beyond recommending me to "rumored" spiritualists?"
He was summing it up for Felaria more than anyone else. "Are there any books you would consider more accurate?"
He could at least search on his own for the recommended title.
Maybe it wouldn't be a complete waste.

Javaid could see the disappointment so clearly. He felt the sting of it so many times as well. "Hauntings are, fortunately I think, quite rare... But yes, I think a curse seems most accurate if... you can't actually place her death?" The jackal shook his head slightly, apologetically, and grabbed up a piece of parchment and a quill from nearby. Here he would jot a quick list of titles in neat, practiced common so that Harold could take them with him. "These are the titles I'd most recommend, and their authors in case you can find more complete texts from your sources... and these," Javaid continued, "are the spiritualists that are known to deal in curses."
Setting the quill down, Javaid passed the parchment to Harold. "I apologize again that I couldn't clarify your situation... The few Hauntings I've dealt with have been about helping a spirit move on and from the look of things that's not exactly your goal."

He stared at the list, his expression slightly blank. Most of the books were ones that he had read. The others were things that he had never even heard of, and with all the research he had been doing that was saying something. Hopefully they were in print.
He looked up at the jackal and forced one of his typical bright smiles. "Thank you very much for the help you can provide. It's greatly appreciated even if you can't help directly. Not many people would have believed me in the first place... and considering you do it's helped quite a bit. And if my case was... normal I would be more than willing to help you out."
Harold wanted to scream, but he was going to save that for the trip home. After all it was going to take a little while to get out of the Wastes. Even if he used his Club ability to stay up and travel it was going to be a painful trip.
A painful trip filled with disappointment.
