The little rabbit tiptoed through the hallways to the best of her ability. (Which was rather loud, to be completely honest.) She didn't want to deal with all of the lessons that were planed for her right now. She wanted to play! When she grew up she had to be a proper Doe and all of that stuff that everyone kept talking about. She should have paid more attention to her lessons. They were important even if it was hard to focus. "Shelby," she whispered as she poked her head through the door. A frown crossed her face. There was no one actually in here. Where had her brother gone to? She knew that he had a break from his studies too, so where was he? It was almost lunch time and it wasn't his job to help with that... right? Unless things had changed without her knowledge. That was possible. With a huff she kicked the door shut. Thankfully she was small and her kicks still weren't all that powerful, so the door simply clicked shut. "Sheeeeeeeeelby!" she called as she hopped down the hallway.

Shelby had been released from his lessons a bit early, but only because one of the other Leverets needed help with doing a bit of laundry, and Shelby had (much to his chagrin) been consigned into helping. Laundry was one of his least favorite tasks, as he found it stupendously boring, and he couldn't see where he was going while carrying the basket... But at last that was done, and he was on his way back to his room when he heard a loud, whiny, familiar voice. Shelby made an unhappy sound and pulled at his long ears with his paws. It was a bad habit and his teachers always tried to get him to stop doing it, but it was his natural reaction to anything that frustrated him. At least...maybe he could sneak up on her and surprise her this way? With a small, devilish grin, Shelby let go of his ears and snuck up behind his sister. He moved down the hall a bit more quietly than she did, and so she most likely didn't notice his approach. When he was a short distance behind her, the Leveret stopped, and sat down, composing himself so it didn't look like he'd just been hurrying. The he cleared his throat. " I'm right here, Fleur, there's no need to disturb half the Warren," he said in his best imitation of their mother's 'stern' voice.

It didn't take much to cause the little rabbit to trip over her own ears in surprise. Of all things, she didn't expect her brother to be behind her. With an alarmed squeak she it the ground with a mighty thud.
Ow.
After several moments of flailing the little Doe untangled herself from her own ears. Grace wasn't something she had managed to get a hang of yet, and really, pretending wasn't something she bothered with. Fleur's nose wrinkled as she looked over her shoulder. "Meanie," she announced before turning around completely. She puffed up her cheeks hen she did. "And what's with that tone, anyway, when did you become a stick in the mud like all of the adults?"
It was impossible for her to keep a straight face as she looked at her brother. He really was plain when it came to rabbits in the warren. Then again, she wasn't that glamorous herself. They would grow up to be a lot more elegant, at least, that's what everyone kept telling her. "Anyway! Do you want to play a game?"

Shelby tried to keep up the stern expression, but as his sister tripped, his ears perked forward, just a bit, and he looked her over to make sure she was okay...though once it was clear she was fine, he began giggling in a rather girly way. He cleared his throat, trying to stifle it as he responded to her accusations. "The day that you (giggle) decided to take lessons from a blue jay when getting someone's (giggle) attention," he replied, sticking out his little tongue at her. Those annoying birds always liked to sit right outside the Warren and scream early in the morning. It made it hard to sleep in on the very rare days he was even allowed to.
"Sure!" he said, losing the giggle fit as his whole demeanor perked up. Games were much more fun than all those boring lessons he'd been at all morning, and probably more fun than his sister's lessons, too. "What kinda game?"

Lessons from bluejays? She wasn't that loud! Well, maybe just a little. The Doe frowned as she stared at her brother, with her cheeks puffed out. If he was going to be like that, maybe she shouldn't have made the offer to play with him?
But he was the only other person in the Warren her age. All the leverets were always busy. Mother and the other Does were busy being adults too. And Heike was something completely untouchable for kids to play with. So all the adults were sticks in the mud and out of the question. Her toes curled for a few moments as she debated his question.
"How about we go outside and play a game of tag. As long as we don't go too far we won't get lost. And this way we won't knock anything over." Like that vase she had accidentally destroyed while running around several weeks ago. It as impossible to forget a mistake like that.

The giggles continued for a moment as his sister made that pouty expression that the adults seemed to respond to...but he just found it silly looking! His little fluffy tail wiggled, but then...his laughter faded slightly. After all, he didn't want to -really- upset her...just tease her a little! Keep her on her perfectly manicured little toes.
But before he had decided whether or not he needed to apologize, Fleur suggested a game, and the whole matter was forgotten with the ease of childhood carelessness. "Sounds good...race ya to the door!" Shelby called gleefully, and tensed for a second before running off down the hall, stubby nails tearing at the floor and head down as he sprinted.
Either he hadn't heard the comment about waiting until they got outside to avoid knocking anything over, or he had chosen to ignore it. Though he certainly should have remembered that incident with the vase, as he had been made to clean it up because he was a Leveret, and plus it was apparently partly his fault for 'instigating bad behavior' in his sister...whatever that meant!

The little girl watched her brother turn to sprint. That wasn't fair! He started early! Though... they really weren't supposed to run around indoors. A frown graced her face for a few moments before she threw caution to the wind. With all the strength she could muster she sprung forward to chase her brother.
She was fairly far behind, it didn't help that she kept tripping over her ears. Really, they were terribly annoying. How did Mommy deal with them all the time? They were so long and only seemed to be a hindrance. Maybe she would grow into them one day? The little Doe stumbled to a rolling halt before she reached the door. Her brother clearly won the little miniature game.
"No fair! You had a head start!" she cried as she pulled herself to her feet. Of course her brother would win. He won most of the games they played, he was better built for such things. And yet she always complained about it.

With legs that were built to run, a long, lean, somewhat gangly frame, and muscles that had been trained to work hard from the time he'd been able to hold a mop and understand basic instructions, Shelby really did have a major advantage over his sister. He was old enough to see it, but young enough to still find it endlessly amusing. Unfortunately for poor Fleur. He was sitting perfectly still beside the door when she came flailing up, floppy ears tripping her ever step of the way. How silly. He tried to imagine ears like that on a Leveret, and giggled slightly. That would be pretty useless! At least on a Doe, they looked pretty. And Does were 'sposed to look pretty. Or so his teachers said.
He grinned impishly at Fleur and stuck out his little tongue again. "Theeeen next time, -you- can announce the start of the race, and then -you'll- get a head start." And Shelby would still probably win. Ha! His tail wiggled in amusement, but he nosed at the door until it opened, and stood in front of it, nodding to his sister and blinking in the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees. "After you, sis."

Her cheeks puffed out as she gave him a generally pouty face. He knew full well that even if she announced the start that he would win. Weren't brothers supposed to let sisters win some of the time? Then again she was fortunate enough to be born a Doe, and her brother had been born... well a boy. He didn't have many options open to him in the future.
And neither did she, but this wasn't the time to think about that.
"You'd still win," she said after a moment of brushing herself off to the best of her ability. He oddly long ears serving as feather dusters or sorts. When her brother stepped to the side to let her through her eyes widened a bit. "Thanks!" she said after a moment of letting the fresh air into the warren. Outside! She hopped gleefully out of the door.

"Well, actually..." Shelby began, but then his ears tilted quizzically and he got an odd look on his face, one paw rising up into the air and then falling. After a moment of holding the odd expression, he broke into a grin. "You're right, I totally would," he said. "That's because I'm the faster one~" This last was said in a rather sing-song voice, in the manner of all good brothers everywhere.
The fact that Shelby had very few prospects was one that he didn't really care to think about, except when he had to. He actually thought he was a pure Selkie; neither his Mother-Doe nor his teachers had ever mentioned anything else. He -did- know that Heike wasn't his Father, but that was only because he had sharp ears and had overheard something he shouldn't have.
Letting the door shut, he hopped out of the way just in time to avoid his fluffy little tail getting caught, and then hopped again, happy to be out in the fresh air after a morning cooped up in boring classes! "Hey, wanna race to the river and look for watercress?" Shelby had already forgotten about tag. Besides, you couldn't play tag properly with only two Rabbits! You needed a whole group! Too bad he and Fleur were really the only ones their age...
