Arkady nodded. So you should always approach a Bander cautiously, especially if it had long fur, no matter whose pet it was. He could definitely live with that answer. His tail wagged slowly, a sign of his contentment as he sat here with two other children, his first ever friends outside of the family, and learned about the dangerous, fluffy threats of the world.
He tilted his head at Conall's question. "Ooh uh, I...I actually might know this one. Some of the Queens used to have Banders. Not Queen Xiven, and not the crazy one before her, but the ones before that. They had some purebred ones, too, I think, like the ones you were talking about earlier Castiel." He grinned, evidently happy he could actually contribute something to the conversation. His tutors thought it was helpful for him to know some recent history of the Heart Court even though he and most of his siblings were not Hearts.
His favorite stories were the ones that involved his parents or older siblings, but some of the other ones could be cool if he was in the mood to pay attention.

"Queen Shinrai?" Conall provided. He had been curious about the Court of Hearts history and asked Peaches at some point. She had been nice enough to summarize the recent history of the Court. And... there was a lot of it. Enough to deter just about anyone for trying to become a titled member. And yet somehow not Mom Xiven was the Queen and his father was the King... and his grandmother was also a Queen. "And maybe Queen Serafino. He was a "proper" Highlander... at least that's what the adults say."
Castiel had never thought about the past nobles in the Court of Hearts. She only really focused on the fact that her Daddy was very important and that she really wasn't a Heart. She wanted to learn how to fight though. I mean. Everyone else could... "I guess if a proper Highlander had a proper Highlander bander maybe I should one day get a proper Yarrow. Though I don't think Akane would like such a thing." She tilted her head to the side. "Do you have any pets Arkady?"

Arkady nodded to Conall. " Yes, both of them had proper Highlands Banders, purebred and pedigreed." His tongue stumbled slightly over the unfamiliar words and he blushed a bit, hoping his new friends wouldn't notice. But he was starting to feel a bit more comfortable around them, and it was starting to let him open up a bit. Though talking so much was odd for him, and made his mouth feel dry. He ran his tongue over his teeth several times, smiling and thumping his tail in amusement at Castiel's assessment of what her current Bander would think of a 'friend'. Banders could be fairly territorial, right? Since they liked to fight. He guessed so, and possibly would have asked to be certain, but then the question from the girl made him pause. He was about to shake his head no when he had a thought...and his ears perked up as his tail thumped on the ground again. " Yes, I do! You wanna see?" Arkady grinned at the other two children, and then, he concentrated, linking his mind with the being that he'd been able to summon from birth. Minutes later, a Slithey Tove materialized out of thin air and hovered near his master. The little creature made no sound, but stared unblinkingly at the other children. " Meet Dima," Arkady said, pointing a paw towards his summon. He watched for their reaction out of the corner of his eye. He knew some people got weirded out by how quiet Dima was.

The little girl let out a rather cheerful squeal when she saw the creature. She had never really been friends with any Spades, so watching one summon a creature was utterly amazing to her. Her hands clasped together as she perked up.
Her bander jerked from it's small nap at the sound of the squeal. It's head snapped upwards, glaring at whatever caught its eyes. A small growl escaped the bander when it saw the Tove. But beyond that it did nothing but wiggle a bit closer to it's mistress.
Conall also perked when the little creature appeared. Toves were utterly fascinating. And really, one day he wanted one of his own as a pet. This one was rather quiet, but then again he had met very few.
"Dima's so adorable!" Castiel said after a moment. "How do you take care of him? What does he eat?"

The squeal started Arkady at first, and for a moment he was worried he'd scared the girl, and was prepared to desummon his pet...but then he saw the delighted smile on Castiel's face, and realized it had been a happy sound, despite its pitch. He grinned back proudly in turn, puffing his chest up just slightly as the Tove just hovered there, silent, knobby tail twitching in the air. Dima met the Bander's eyes evenly...and finally blinked, beady little red eyes closing for a moment before opening again. Instead of making any threatening gestures toward the Bander, as most Toves probably would, he instead cocked his head slightly, looking at his Master. Waiting for orders.
"You can...pet him, if you like," Ark offered softly, tail picking up its rhythm again. He waved a paw to the Tove, almost absently, and Dima lowered itself to be more on the level with the other children's hands, red and white tail's motions stilling slightly. Dima didn't want to hurt anyone his Master didn't tell him to, after all.
At the question, Ark opened his mouth, eager to respond. "Well, mostly, he does what I tell him to. He's very good! He eats little bits of table scraps...whatever I bring him. He seems to like just about anything." His ears twitched curiously, thoughtfully. "I have no idea what wild ones eat...anyway, he sleeps curled up on the bed near me, and whenever I don't summon him he stays in my room."

Castiel cautiously leaned forward to carefully pet the creature with a single finger on the head. She couldn't get over how adorable Toves really were. Maybe she should try to convince her mother that she wanted one for a pet? Though she did already have a bander... and that had been hard enough to convince her parents about. The girl listened with interest as she decided to scratch the little Tove under the chin.
"That's really amazing and cool." She said after a moment, pulling back her hand. Akane made a point of inching closer to her owner, snuggling around her feet. Obviously she didn't approve of such attention.
Conall was rather curious about how summons worked. Well, that was fascinating. Spades did have some interesting powers after all. He gave a curious look at the creature when Castiel started petting it. It really was kind of cute... though it probably wouldn't like him. Most little creatures didn't like him.... really most people didn't like him. "Do any of your other siblings have summons?"

Dima silently let himself be pet, leaning into the motion a bit and closing his eyes halfway, obviously enjoying the attention. Were he a normal Tove, he might have made some happy trilling noise, but as it was, he remained completely silent, though he did peek over at his Master every so often. In response to the Bander curling around Cas's feet, he moved to hover like a little halo over Ark's head, staring out at the children.
For his part, the little Coyote kept up a steady rhythm with his tail as Castiel stroked Dima. He was...very glad that they were responding well to him, and glad that his little Tove continued to behave himself. He noted the Bander's protectiveness absently, and wondered, not for the first time today, if it would be cool to get Laika a Bander. He smiled and his tail wagged faster at the compliment, but he didn't feel the need to say anything. He rarely did, and he'd already spoken more today to these two strangers than he usually did to anyone who wasn't his sister in a whole week.
His ears twitched and he turned to Conall at the question. "One of my older brothers does. His is a Mome Rath though. Also two of my half siblings do." Arkady had a rather...large family.

Castiel scratched her bander between the ears when she noticed her protest of paying attention to another creature. She was terribly spoiled. Probably meant that she should introduce the bander to a few other creatures so she wouldn't be too bossy in situations like this. Then again... banders were naturally bossy creatures.
"Really? We should talk to your siblings sometime!" She said cheerfully. "I would definitely like to meet the rest of your family. I mean... our families do cross paths a lot."
That was an understatement. Conall knew all the connections of family, and the family tree was large enough to make anyone double take. Technically they weren't biologically related. The wolf mix tried to make himself a bit more comfortable. He wasn't quite sure of what to say in a situation like this. It seemed like Castiel had exhausted her knowledge on banders, and he didn't have much else to say.

Arkady found his eyes pulled towards the attention Cas was giving her Bander, and his ears twitched a bit in unconscious reaction. It must have been nice, the Coyote thought, to have hands like that to pet things with or carry things with. It would be harder to take care of a Bander with paws, just like it was harder to do a lot of things with paws. But somehow, he managed. One of his direct sisters also had her Human form already, but it meant that things were harder for her when she was a baby, he thought.
Ark nodded at her statement, and snorted out a laugh. It was, as Conall was also thinking, an understatement. They even had some of the same relatives, since her Mom and his older sister had had kids once. That thought struck him as a bit odd, and he wrinkled his nose.
While Arkady would have been content to sit in silence for a little (and Dima settled around his shoulders like a weirdly lumpy scarf as he was considering it), he didn't want his new friends to get bored. So he found himself searching for topics of conversation.
"Have you ever been anywhere cool?" He himself had rarely left the Palace, other than a few trips to the Capital with various sitters or family members.

The Yarrow shook her head at the question. "Not really! I've only ever been to the Gardens, the Capital and I live here in the Highlands. I think Mommy is going to take us to Torquehelm soon.... though I was really hoping that Daddy was going to. I should know better I guess." She frowned as she laced her fingers through the bander's fur yet again. It was something she didn't want to think about. Daddy was always super busy, and she didn't seem to leave the palace at all.
It was hard to miss the sudden dip in joy in the room. Conall did his best to cheer up the mood. Or at least to fill the silence. "I haven't been to very many places since everyone is busy. Though.... I might be going on a trip to the Bog with my Dad." He grinned. "I guess we should all get out a bit more. Maybe we should go on an adventure sometime?"
