Tonight was turning out very inconvenient. One of the waitresses had to go home sick, so they had turned to Aima to take her place. That night she would be playing both hostess and waitress. She would seat those she would serve. She planned to strive for two at the most. She didn't want to risk being slow or dropping the food, something that was likely to happen if she tried for too many. It also meant she couldn't just her crutches. She would need both paws to do this, and at that moment she dearly wished she had her biped form. That would make this all so much easier. But alas, she did not. Hopefully her balance and leg could take it. That's what led up to Aima standing at the front of the restaurant, waiting for her next guest so she could both seat and wait on them. She only hoped she could manage it.

Yesterday he'd made a great find! That body, the one he curiously rolled over in the dumpster because it still looked kind of fresh and there might have been some trinket or coins on it that hadn't been found, it had belonged to somebody who was missing! Funny, that. And that missing person had a family! Who'd posted a reward for any news of their loved one! Sometimes it was worth checking the police boards in an innocent body, just to see what sorts of rewards you could get. He'd ran back to the body to make sure it was still there, taken up a different form, and ran to the police to tell him what he saw in that one dumpster that had 'horrified' him and he felt obligated to report to the local police. Cause they always liked words like that. It must have made them feel special. And Jak was always happy to help someone feel special. The officers had gone and found the body, he'd stuck around the station all innocent and fretful and worried-like, and the family had come in to identify the body. Then they'd given him a reward, upset but happy to know he wasn't missing any longer. He felt awful for them but really, really happy for the money. He could go and buy something to eat! First he went shopping for his brothers, a'course, and then one of them suggested he go and get himself something at a restaurant. Cause he loved those little restaurants and diners and cafes and things. Going to a place where they made food for you always made him happy. And he was pregnant and Amhal wanted him eating okay, and Kieran wanted him happy so that he could eat okay, and so he went and he'd order something big so he could bring back lots of leftovers for Amhal. Wearing one of his favorite bodies, that of a bipedal Corvie ferret with purple markings and his purple-glowing angler-dangler, he strolled into the restaurant and grinned like an idiot. This one was new! It had been recommended as not-too-expensive, though, and with big portions, which was what he wanted. "Hiiii there," he said cheerfully to the hostess as he approached. His grin was enough to make anyone slightly uneasy, but it was very genuine. Just a little bigger than you might normally see. Nothing like his 'normal' mouth, but it was hard to break the habit in any body. "Just a table for me, and- OH HEY!" He couldn't help but stare in admiration at the little doober on her head, inadvertently making people jump throughout the restaurant. 'That's excellent," he said admiringly.

One of her previous customers had just taken off so Aima returned to play the hostess. She'd gotten a tip which she swore was from pity rather than over the top service, but money was money, and she would take it gladly. Room, food, and all her research had to get paid for somehow.
She had not waited long before her next customer walked in. Looking at him she was pleased to see he was a Corvie! Being one herself, she was often much more comfortable with them than with others, and this one even had a strangely fascinating.. thing hanging out of his forehead. What was it? Was it some sort of experiments? Though her questions didn't seem all that important, nor did anything else, really. It was so distracting...
The martin jumped along with some of the others in the cafe as he made his exclamation. That had been one of the last things she'd be expecting, and her mind was drawn from the angler-dangler to whom it belonged. Apparently she wasn't the only one staring, and the thought amused her far more than it should have. So much so that she actually laughed.
Unsure how to respond right away, Aima grabbed a menu that she would give to him once she led him to his table to by herself a split second of thinking time. "I'm not the only one with something excellent on my head," she ended up saying as she gestured for him to follow. Hopefully she'd heard correctly when he said a table for just him, but she couldn't be fully sure. After commenting on his own doodad she was hoping she could get him to tell her what it was.

Jak continued to stare at her little metal bit-thing and admire the way it was so firmly attached to her head. And he'd made her happy by noticing! She even laughed! His grin widened, which made the expression cross the line from odd to slightly creepy but very genuine. He swayed along after her, the mustelid body long and lean and fun to walk in.
She looked like a mustelid too. The Joker had to make a hobby out of placing realms and breeds, especially the fascinating mixes like himself. It was all in the line of work, but it was also pretty fun. Not a ferret, this one. She was a little stockier than that. Maybe a pine marten or weasel in general. Very pretty. He loved the look of Corvies. They always had something awesomely weird about them.
"Well thank you!" he responded cheerfully, sliding himself into a seat wherever she directed him. "Not as many people bother to stick something on their heads. I think it's great! Does yours do anything, or is it just there to look neat?" He would have approved either way. Ornamental mutations were just as much a fondness of his as functional ones.

Aima was multitasking between leading the ferret to his seat and glancing up at the thing on his own head. Anyone watching might find it odd that they kept staring at each other's forehead, but Aima was oblivious to it if they were getting strange looks. He didn't seem to notice them, either. In fact, he even asked her about hers and seemed so genuine in wanting to know! She couldn't recall the last time anyone was that curious over it, if anyone ever was.
"Actually, it's a solar panel so it absorbs nutrients from the sun to keep me healthy!" she exclaimed happily just as she reached the table in which he would be seated. The martin stepped aside and gestured to the table to show that it was his while handing the menu over to him. "What about yours? Yours is just so.. addicting."
She was so distracted by the thing on his head she missed how creepy his grin was getting. Though if it remained long enough she would certainly notice it.. eventually.

Her head ornament absorbed the sun. Jak's eyes couldn't have gotten any wider without looking grotesque. "That... wooooow. Really? That thing lets you eeeeat the suuuun? That's kind of like my brother. Only, he doesn't eat the sun. He eats haaaappy. Happiness fills him up like a steak or a bagel. Because serious happiness sticks to his ribs like potatoes. The mashed ones. Or bagels, if they've been chewed enough."
He leaned back and relaxed in the seat, enjoying the temporary lack of body bits that allowed him to relax more comfortably. It also made his tiny baby bump more prominent to those who were used to seeing such things. "Oh, mine doesn't feeeed me or anything neat like that. Although I wish it did. Cause going hungry is the wooorst thing ever besides making somebody cry. And if it let me eat the sun then I could just worry about feeding my brothers instead. And that would be greeeeat. But no, mine just lights up. Puuuurple! Good for the dark, unless you're trying to be sneaky. So I guess it's sorta a little bit practical if you want some light. Otherwise it's just like a toooy attached to my head!"

"But the purple color that it is is so beautiful!" she blurted. Wow! It did all that! She was too distracted to really note that from what he said it only did one thing. Aima didn't light up, but suddenly that seemed like a good idea. Maybe after she got rid of all her blood she could try to make herself glow. Wait, how would that help her at all? Maybe she'd try to get herself to light up when something was wrong! Like if she was pushing her energy too far she could like up a certain color, then she'd know she ought to stop. There would be no more forgetting to take care of herself!
The way his brother lived off happy amazed her, too. "Does he really? How do you become like that?" she asked wide-eyed, forgetting to hand him his menu and ask what he would like to drink. "Was he born like that or did something happen? Does that mean he doesn't need to eat or sleep? Does his own happiness feed him, too? Or just other peoples?"

"Purple's a gooood color," Jak agreed with a slow drawl, grinning from ear to ferrety ear. Not literally in this body, but well, yeah. Close? Sorta.
And now they were talking about his family! Yay! He sat up straighter and bounced a little in his seat, the dangler on his head bobbing with a mechanical jerk. "He was just booooorn with it. He was a really special kitten. Reeeeally special. We were all weird, but he had this face that... well... hehehehe. He didn't have a mouth. So he coooouldn't eat. Happiness was it. He's always slept. But, uh. He got a mouth. Still doesn't eat with it. And I don't think he can feed himself? Cause he always seems to need meeeeee around to feel all that full. He's happy when he's full. I loooove making my brother happy. He's a great brother! I have two great brothers. And two great sisters. And loads of other family. And soon I'm gonna have one great baby!"
The more he babbled, the more he talked with his hands. His motions were a little bit "flail-y", but still within the norm of exuberant conversation.

((Heya... my muse for preggo-Jak is kind of hard to hold at the moment, since he's soooo eager to pop out his darling little girl. Would you be willing to end this, with a hopeful RP at a later date? <3))
