He'd only just returned to the capitol late last week, but that's when he had made the decision that he was ready to move up in the world and return to the court..... and what better way to return and impress his father and the Queen, who seemed like a third parent to him then acquire the title of Jack? Well, there was more to it then that of course ... but those reasons would have to wait.... he had a meeting to get to! He gave himself one more once over in the mirror before trotting off to find the elder canine with whom he'd set up an appointment with. He'd heard stories about her temper, and how it only got worse with her age, but surely that wasn't true! Besides, he'd groomed himself to a healthy shine and brought along a personality to match .... who could be a sour puss when facing that arsenal? Cheerfully, and with his flame colored tail raised and waving gently, he knocked upon the Torquehelm's door as best a canine could knock .... and then he waited with his ears perked and a grin on his muzzle.

Anoushka heard the knock and her ears flipped backwards, expression turning sour. What had she just been doing? Her hands had been on the paper, getting ready to sign... but now the pen was where? On the floor? She grunted and leaned down to pick it up, staring at it in momentary confusion. How did it get down there so quickly? Had she... had she fallen asleep? Her ears went to either side and she growled at herself, not quite believing she had done that. She'd never inadvertently fallen into a snooze at her desk before. Never. In decades! Damn it, she really was getting to be a crone, wasn't she? How many more years did she have left? Enough. Hopefully. But would there ever be enough? Distracted from her wandering thoughts by another polite knock, she twitched and tried to gather herself. Gah! Together, get it together. A prospective Jack was a welcome thing. Anatolius was a capable young man, if accasionally annoying to her, and she hoped that his progeny would be likewise capable. The boy was half Morganberry, she'd heard? An ambitious lot by nature, but that could be very useful in politics. "Enter," she called out.

He waited, excitement making his toes wiggle .... but no response came. He tilted his head to the side, flipped his ears forward into a curious, listening position and waited for a moment before decided that, maybe, he'd knocked too lightly. How thick were these doors anyhow? He'd never really paid attention to that sort of thing... Brokat would probably know though. The triple breed seemed to be a wealth of those sorts of.... facts. But his brother wasn't here, and it wouldn't matter if he was anyhow... he was going to do this by himself because he wasn't doing it for anyone else.
Finally he heard her summons and let himself in, closing the door behind him. He made his way from door to desk, his cheerful movements all but a prance, his flame hued tail swaying happily behind him.
He also remembered his manners, years of living with his mother had done wonders for that, and he dipped his head politely to the older canine before addressing her.
Good afternoon your Highness.

The light from the fire caught her attention before anything else and she blinked in surprise. Oh... yes, wasn't his parent especially capable with the element? Huh. And the Queen. And now this pup with actual fire decorating his body. Had he been born with it, she wondered, or acquired a bit of magic to make it happen?
Huh. Kids these days, covering themselves in dangerous substances and parading around with little concern for how they might be endangering others around them.
Although it did look pretty cool.
Her eyes traveled down when he greeted her and offered courtesy. A polite, if mildly forced, smile worked its way onto her muzzle. Then she noticed the other colors marking the boy's fur.
Oh. Oh hell, were they serious? Had Anatolius seriously slept with a... a... eugh. How disgusting! Her opinion of the man immediately took a nosedive and settled somewhere on the floor beneath her desk. The disgust would be plain on her face for a few seconds before she forced it away, to be replaced with aggitated manners.
Damn it, a fucking Lowland mix. How had she never noticed this spawn running around the palace? Disgusting. This would not help their Court's reputation. But he was mostly Morganberry. Predominantly so, in fact. And... the brown was warm enough to blend a tiny bit with the rest of him. That helped. It didn't help much, but it helped. Oh suits, she was going to kick herself for even considering this before she died, she was sure of it.
And yet, she would die. Sooner rather than later. And the Court was going to need all the help it could get. She gritted her teeth and bared her teeth in what might, in some alternate universe, be considered a smile. "Afternoon. Present your case for joining the nobility."
((OOC: Sorry in advance for the bitchitude. xD She's such a ho-beast sometimes, though this is called for in a cultural sense. I love her muchly. And him.))

[[ Tis perfectly alright... I don't think his brain even registers it XD <3 ]]
If only she knew how many times he'd set tablecloths and other dangling fabrics on fire before he realized his wings were the cause and how close he could get to things without igniting them .... or how many times he'd been chased out of his mothers garden for that matter. He'd hadn't been permitted in their until he'd learned how to absorb his wings into his body and even then the Rat/Eagle seemed leery about letting him frolic amongst his precious flowers. Really, they were just flowers, pretty... but just plants in the end.
He tilted his head ot the side ever so slightly when her features slipped to something between surprise and disgust ... lingering more on the disgust side if he guessed correctly. Had he ... interrupted something? That would be odd... since he made an appointment. Whatever could have her tail in a knot? He mentally shrugged it off when she spoke though, it was time to shine!
I've recently returned from a trip in which I traveled to various regions to study their cultures. He bit his tongue on the fact that her own realm proved to be the most fascinating ot him, didn't wanna seem like a kiss ass after all ... now did he? And before that I was training under his Majesty Aderlass as well as getting acquainted with court policies, procedures and the various forms of the court with both his Highness Anatolius and Silas.
Oh yes, he'd known he wanted to be in the courts since he first stumbled upon them, back when he hadn't even known Aderlass was The Queen, or what that meant really. There had just been something about it that sparked an interest in him he hadn't known before, and hadn't waned even when going over all of the more... boring details. And now he wanted personal experience rather then just the off hand type he'd gotten thus far. He perked his ears forward, bright orange eyes full of curious anticipation.

The entire Court had been grooming this... thing boy to join from a young age, hadn't they? Fuckers. And Anoushka hadn't been paying attention to any of it. She held her 'smile' firmly in place, dull teeth still quite visible.
"Very interesting. I suppose that cultural sensitivity vould be very... useful to a member of the Court, vouldn't it?" She had been inches away from saying 'one of your kind', but she refrained. Really, he looked a full half Morganberry. It would be fine, just fine. The Josiggy wouldn't get on their asses for this, would they? Surely it wouldn't become an inter-regional dispute if he settled into the Court and wind of a new titled Jack spread to the wrong ears?
Her own black ears went back at the thought, but she forced them back up halfway. "Before ve go any further, I vill present you vith the option that I give everyvon who comes to me for a qvest." To reinforce the fact that she wasn't letting her horrible, horrible bias boot him out. "Vould you prefer a qvest that challenges you physically or mentally?"

He wasn't entirely blind to her forced mannerisms, and it helped that his mother happened to be of the extremely paranoid variety and had flailed at him when he first mentioned he wanted to be in the courts. He couldn't help but remember that now as he kept his eyes on The King. He nodded respectfully to her comment, his tail's speed slowing just a bit as he rolled his thoughts around in his mind.
At her next question he tilted his head to the side ever so slightly in thought, tail ceasing it's movements altogether. His ears twitched a little when the wording he was looking for revealed it's self.
Your Highness, I'm aware that I have more to prove then the average candidate .... Part of why he'd held off this long, he had needed to do a little bit of growing up in the mental department before it was a good idea .... another thing he could thank hism other for later.
I ask for the challenge that you see as best, I will give it my all either way.
He wouldn't please everyone, in fact .... he wasn't quite sure if there would be pleasing a certain Jossiggy Queen at this very Court ... but he would try.

Anoushka couldn't stop her ears from going back all the way at his answer. She hated that wishy-washy shit. She had asked him a question with two possible answers. He'd given her a third. He wasn't the first to have done so and it aggravated her every time. She would give him the same sort of thing she gave to others, then. She would give him both.
"Very vell," she responded with a grim tone of voice. "If you leave the choice to me then I vill choose for you. Perhaps this vill be a lesson in and of itself. Give me just a moment."
She hadn't been prepared for this. She had to think for a moment. Then she smiled.
"I vould like for you to go around to each titled member of this Court. Speak to them. Be polite. And ask them to write me a letter either recommending you or not, based upon their conversation and prior knowledge of you. Then, vhen you reach Hadrian, I vant you to ask him for a spar before he writes his letter. Tell him that I vish to know your mettle. Bring all of the letters to me and I vill evaluate your qvest performance."
((>_> Sorry she's a bitch. But, this is a nice 'easy way out'. You can either have him come back and we can vaguely gloss over the fact of the letters, or you can PM the dealers who own them and wait two or three days to see who responds. Not for threads, just for how their character would vaguely react. xD Your choice.))

((To finish up the quest, please feel free to just make his post presenting it to her. The muse, and character, are both too dead for me to resurrect. <3))

[[Taking your advice and just putting it up here <3]]
Cheerfully he made his way down the hall to Anoushka's office, a spring in his step and a grin on his face to go with his happy little tail. He'd gathered everything up and, as per a suggestion from his mother, put them all together in a nice, neat little stack and slipped them into an envelope so he could carry them without getting slobber all over them.
Her door was in sight and his heartbeat increased for just a moment, this was what he'd been waiting for for so long ... well, hopefully. In the end it really depended on what the fickle old gal decided. But he couldn't help but be confident, he'd done everything in a reasonably good time line.
So he paused at her door, lifted a paw and knocked. He perked his ears, straightened up his shoulders and tried very hard to still the happy waving of his tail as he waited.
When he was invited in her gently laid the large envelope down on her her desk and pushed it toward her with his nose, grinning all the while.
