Twitch. The music wouldn’t stop! Farran squashed himself against the doctor and covered his ears. UGH! It was incessant! And the monster… wouldn’t start? He risked a glance upward and slowly removed his paws from his ears out of confusion. Why hadn’t it moved? Why didn’t it answer? Twitch.
It stared at them, holding its gaze on Zenon longer. What the hell was it doing? The edges of the thing’s body flickered and twinkled, seeming to bend in and out of existence along with the impossible trees.
The strength of the Villa’s shakes increased. Oh, how he wished it would just go away! It was torture, having it stare emotionlessly at them, when it could have raised a leather shoe and flattened them in one step. Twitch.
Farran closed his eyes and bit hit lip. Maybe, just maybe, if he closed his eyes he would wake up and this would all be over.
…
No.
The monster moved, the endless arm floating up to shuffle soundlessly within the breast pocket of its suit. A… a knife? No – it was… one of those utensils used by doctors – a scalpel! A scalpel?!
Downward plunged the freakishly long scalpel – it was too fast! Impossibly fast! It was going to... ZENON!
NOOOO!!!!!
Before he realized what he was doing, Farran had lunged upward to fend off the monstrous, overlarge hand, opening his maw wide to catch the offending extremity with his teeth. It was ridiculous, the hand was just about as big as he was, but his hind feet left the floor before he could even think about it.
Later, he wouldn’t be able to tell why he did it. He didn’t much care for Zenon, but… she was with him. The rest of them had stayed with him through the whole evening. And.. well.. it was the right thing to do, or something, right?
((Farran rolled an 11… hoo boy…))

Arkady whimpered as the man seemed to have some sort of fit. Ark had never seen a siezure before so he had no idea what was going on, only that it looked incredibly painful. His ears pulled back and he held the binding close as if it were his only anchor to reality. Maybe it was, in that moment. He nodded quickly in answer, trying to force the messages through his shocked brain. It was hidden in the place Piers used to work. Tell their Mom...something. Probably that he loved her? That would be what Ark would want to tell his mom, if...if... He swallowed against a sudden lump in his throat, and then...then, the poor man breathed his last, and something rolled to a stop inches from Ark's paws. He made a strangled sort of nose that may have been a choked off sob, tears clouding his vision as he looked down at what glistened dully in the light. He looked dully up at Rosewood as the man spoke, and then nodded stiffly, sniffling a bit, and pulled the pearl close to himself with a paw, feeling the tingles that meant it was magical. But before he could anything else, really...there were screams from outside. Ark took a deep breath, trying to prepare himself to possibly fight. He could do it. He didn't want to watch anyone else die. He looked down at the pearl, then looked for something to carry it in. His eyes fell on the first aid kit. Well, from the screams they may need it anyway. He carefully opened the white box and stuck the pearl inside and, after a hesitant moment, the binding spike too. Then he grabbed the handle in his mouth and ran out after Rosewood, summoning his Tove with a thought as he went. The Tove appeared, red eyes unblinking, without a sound, and floated after Ark to the scene of horror in the back of the building.

All of a sudden, the woman felt earth-shatteringly stupid. Not as stupid as the man standing beside her, of course, but... What had she been thinking? Trying to talk to the thing had clearly been a waste of her time - time which would have been better spent in escaping. She could have lifted herself and Farran right out of there, and instead she had asked the thing what it wanted. Like she was a barista, and it was ordering a warm drink.
As luck would have it, she didn't have long to regret her decision before it was rushing at them - no. It was rushing directly at her.
It must have found her stupid, too.
She had barely enough time to let out a terrified half-chirp before it was upon her, too-long limbs reaching her in an alarmingly short time. When she hit the ground the air was forced from her lungs, cutting the cry dramatically short and turning it into a pathetic little gasp. Her head spun, and somewhere in the back it registered, too slow, that something sharp and metal was hurtling down at her --
Instinct kicked in, but sometimes, instinct was fucking stupid. Her front talon went up between the scalpel and her chest, so instead of driving into her torso, the attack drove the weapon into her fucking hand (3). She let out a high-pitched scream of terror and blinding pain, the instrument going directly through and poking out the back. She screamed again, not thinking well at all, and started to lift off the ground.
The freakish beast came, too.
~~~
Powerful Magical Ability When activated, she can fly for 1 hour. Winged Diamonds can use this ability for effortless, perfectly controlled flight.
Jack's Ability Once a week, she is now able to take another person flying with her when using her rank 10 ability, rendering them weightless and flying them with her as she goes with no effort. However, they must be touching her in order for the spell to work...and if she drops them, they fall hard.
(( Rosewood finds his punch caught and contained in a hand larger than his head. The creature began to rise from the ground slowly, hauling itself more fully onto the Doctor's squirming body (13) and whipping its surprisingly solid wrist around in a half-circle, causing the wrist to break. (19) Yanking it away quickly to concentrate on the doctor. Its gaze seems to linger on the Swan as it flicks its wrist up and aims for the doctors head with its weapon. (4?!?!) The scalpel takes a small nick out of the Corvid mix's beak, before dropping from its fingers. Farran's insane leap missed the doctor and monster, but landed him squarely on the weapon, slicing two toes from his paw, and giving him a deep gash up his forearm. Still, nice weapon Farran, was it worth the fingers?))Strange Scalpel: This scalpel tingles like fire when touched! The first person to grasp it will realize that once a week, they are now able to call forth a thick mist that will surround themselves and an area up to 100 feet thick enough to blot out anything outside of the 100 foot area to anyone inside except for the caster. Anyone outside of the mist cannot see inside and will feel a strong inclination to stay away... This mist will last for up to 30 minutes.(( The monster lets out something that sounds like a breathy hiss when it loses its weapon, but one hand slams down around the Card's entire head, surprisingly strong fingers gripping her beak shut as another long arm whips back up to its breast pocket and pulls out another scalpel.
Holding it delicately as the Card writhes, it yanks her head up, legs wrapped around her body to stay on (15), and begins to apply it to the back of her head. (17 O___o)))~Nathalia
So much for the element of surprise.
The swan's eyes widened with terror when his hand was caught by the giant monster. His breath caught in his throat as he struggled to process the scene in front of him. He didn't particularly have time to dwell on what he was seeing, as the creature snapped his wrist without a shred of effort.
And he was promptly discarded like a rag doll.
He stumbled, and did his hardest not to burst into tears over his now useless wrist. His feathers were ruffled in terror as the thing seemed to pause to look at him. It was certainly damn determined to hurt the Doctor. What exactly could do against something like that?
He wasn't a fighter, and he wasn't useful in a situation like this. He didn't want to throw something, since he could hit the wrong thing, and this just wasn't, there wasn't time to think. He couldn't think through the mind numbing pain. He fumbled to hold the binding that Piers had given him properly with his working hand, his broken wrist distracting him from actually focusing on doing anything useful. "Son of a bitch," he said through a distressed honk, tears welling up in his eyes.
(( rolled a 13 for willpower so he's not crying like a baby, but he rolled a 7 to actually think something up, so he fails at that. ))
Upon seeing the horrible monster, like no Card Arkady had ever seen in his life, the Coyote pup froze as everything around him seemed to happen so fast. The monster, whatever it was, seemed to be powerful and brutal, breaking Rosewood's wrist with the effort it took normal Cards to snap twigs and then beating on the Doctor. Arkady let out a howl of worry. "Rosewood! Doctor Zenon!" he whimpered, running to the Swan's side and dropping the first aid kit he'd brought with him. He looked at the monster, eyes wide. There was no chance they could talk to this one like to Piers, right? It seemed a lot meaner...
He wasn't sure how well his abilities would even work against such a thing, but he had to do something! Taking a deep breath and narrowing his eyes, Arkady released an ability, hoping it might somehow hamper the weird thing's fighting ability. His Tove hovered beside him, silent and seemingly unafraid by the situation. Ark hesitated for a half second on sending him in, but the life of a Card was worth more than that of a familiar...and he only needed a distraction anyway.
"Go," he mumbled, and Dima took off, zipping right in toward the monster and attempting to whack it upside the head with his thick, knobby tail. After that, he'd dart back, red eyes watching the thing unblinkingly.
Jack’s Ability: Once a week, he is able to cause an opponent to go completely deaf for a full three minutes.
This strange little Tove never makes a sound and is disturbingly obedient to his master. His thin, knobbly tail has spikes on the end and he can smash it about with a quick ferocity one might not believe upon looking at it.
He missed. Completely.
The Villa soared through the air, missing the gruesome claws as they tightened around the unfortunate Corvie mix. Instead, he collided solidly with the weapon, which neatly sliced off two of his toes from his left paw and sliced deeply into his forearm.
His voice caught in his throat as pain seared through his front left paw, escaping only as a shortened, surprised gasp. After a second that seemed to last forever, a horrible scream wrenched itself from his lungs. He stared, eyes wide with disbelief, as he raised a shaky paw that gushed blood from his severed digits.
Farran gaped at his bloody limb before remembering his ink-splattered scarf that had somehow stayed around his neck throughout the entire evening, and wrapped it clumsily around his arm. Suddenly, he recognized the remnants of a prickly, fiery sensation crawling up his limb that had nothing to do with the throbbing, hot ache that came with his injury.
The knife-like scalpel was magical.
He grit his teeth as the fiery feeling faded away. It made sense that such a beast would have an item like this on hand. Well, now he had a powerful ability to contrast with his stupid curse. Still, he wasn’t sure if it was worth it – considering he might not make it out of this alive – and it was his dominant hand. Was he ever going to be able to paint again??
Right – his curse! That son of a bitch was going to pay for all of this, if it was the last thing he ever did!
Leaping to his feet, his lips pulling back into an angry grimace, and quickly glanced around. Rosewood was cursing and clutching his wrist, which was dangling at a stomach-churning angle. Oh no.... And Arkady had appeared – what was he doing?
A tove appeared and darted upwards. Farran followed with his eyes and gasped. The horrible creature and Zenon were up in the air, locked in a desperate struggle. Light glinted as the creature removed an object from its pocket– another scalpel! – and pressed it to the back of her skull!
GET OFF HER, YOU BASTARD!!, he screeched upward at the thing, and unleashed his curse upon the monster. It wasn’t much, but maybe it would give them enough time to get away!!
Old Broom Handle: Once a week, they are able to cause one SD ranked King or lower to feel as though they have been thawcked hard over the head with a broom handle. This is exceedingly painful, but not debilitating.
((YESS!!! Farran rolled a 20! That’s right, Tard-Cat, make up for your epic failures!!! Although... will it work on SlenderMan??))
It wasn't working. It wasn't working, not at all! Blood spattered from her hand down into the Doctor's eyes and she screeched desperately, trying to swing the two of them around in mid-air, wanting more than anything to shake it free. The spell would only lift it as long as they were in contact, all she had to do was drop the bloody thing...!!
She screamed again when a piece of her beak was carved away, feeling the blood drain from her face for a moment. That was -- that was unspeakably sharp, in any other situation she might have marveled at it, even asked it where it got its instruments from. Instead, she found it holding her tighter than ever, those impossibly long limbs giving it little trouble in keeping hold of her. They swung in mid-air, and she had a moment to realize how high they had gone up. Too far to just drop. What was it intending to do to her? "Please,[/b]" she whispered, trying to speak around the hand holding her beak. The words were muffled, barely understandable.
"Stop, or we'll both fall,[/b]" she whimpered, squeezing her eyes shut.
The scalpel sliced into the back of her head, through the thick plumage, slicing through skin. A cry of pain escaped her and she shook hard, then felt herself going into shock. What the hell was it doing to her?
This was wrong, too wrong. Her eyes rolled back, and abruptly, the pair of them started to fall (4 for her concentration). The feeling of the freefall shook her brain back to awareness (18 for recovery!) and she screamed again, activating her ability for flight, hoping it wasn't too late. She did not want to die here, not by having her brain removed, and not by becoming a pancake.
((The creature dragged the scalpel all along the back of the doctor's head and peeled back the flesh a bit, just as they began to fall. It made no sound, but gripped her tighter, pinning her back legs...perhaps in fear? (17) Her flight ability kicked back in, narrowly preventing them from crashing down directly onto Rosewood, though the doctor's feet brushed his head before they began to rise again.
It suddenly raised its head, as though confused, shaking it slightly as though to dislodge something, and then trying to shrug the feeling off. It had gone deaf...though it didn't seem much to care. It did care, however, when the Tove zoomed out of nowhere and slammed its tail directly into its throat. The scalpel slipped, slicing a huge chunk out of the doctors right ear and dragging an enormous cut down the center of her head. The monster reached a long limb out automatically and grabbed the roof of the Police station as they floated upwards and away from it, dragging them over it, near the broken window and clinging on. It makes desperate choked sounds, muffled by the mask, and uses its remaining hand to swing the scalpel once more. (16) The blade digs into the back of the doctor's head and she can feel a small piece of bone chip off. At once, the monster lets go, falling to the roof of the Police station with a thud and curling its limbs in, dazedly for a few moments, before the hand clutching the knife...and something covered in blood, is crammed under the mask as it appears to eat the fragment of bone! Does it even have a mouth?!?
Farran's attack did nothing...the Monster must be a Queen, then? Oh, Lord. It slides back through the broken roof of the Police station, out of sight.))
He couldn't help. That was quite clear as he tried to back up when the Doctor activated her flight ability. His eyes were still watering when the monster almost crashed down on him, feet brushing against his head instead. He let out a rather loud shriek as he stumbled backwards (13) catching himself so he didn't actually hit the ground. Though he aggravated his broken wrist further.
He didn't turn to watch. He grabbed what he needed from the first aide kit, and got out of the way. If he was going to be of any use, he needed to fix himself, and pray that the Doctor was a capable Card who could take care of herself. To the best of his ability (19) he wrapped his wrist as best he could. He wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, but he just needed to stay calm.
The thud made him jump, his head snapping around to see what was happening. He saw the massive creature shove something bloody into it's mask before it slid into the police station.
Now what should they do? Was the thing still there? Was the thing gone? "We need to get out of here," he said lamely as he collected the first aide kit, shoving it under his arm along with the binding, before slowly stalking in the direction of the Doctor. Hopefully the thing wouldn't try to pop out of the station.
