((The beast in the basement lets out a screeching wail as the boy dove beneath the surface and began ripping at its underside to free it from the floor. Writhing madly, his claws tearing, it took him two dives before it was finally free. Floating a little above the water now, it wriggled, flailed, and swallowed the Bat hybrid whole. Red eyes giving Bristol and Zhenya a pathetically deranged stare, it roared. Sergei was lost inside of suffocating, thick and unforgiving blackness, his arms flailing against nothing until coming into contact with thin, brittle bone. Ribcage and skull; one arm wrapped tightly around him, it fought to stay with him, until he was expelled from the mass and back into the water. Broken little bits of blobs began to flit about in the water as the thing groaned in agony and spoke. "Broookeeennnnn, broken, broken, broken, hurtsssss. She wassss mine....hurtsssssss...." Its eyes rolled back in its head and it slowly began to fall apart, myriads of the little blobs shooting across the water, leaving Sergei clutching the inanimate remains of what appears to be a Canine hybrid of some kind...the skull drooping back on bits of spinal column and the arm dropping its grip from his shoulder to hang lifelessly. Outside, the puddle-mass slowly stops writhing, and flattens out...staying still and silent...I wonder what would happen if Sergei brought those bones up here to this mass? Eldy notices something odd about a shoppe nearby...it seems to be a Benyan outlet...some kind of fish store. The door's hanging off the hinges and inside are some letters over the counter: Suv- and T- can be made out, but the rest is blocked by the door and light fixtures...))

A happy smile splashed across his goofy face as Cal rubbed affectionately against him. The pair trotted curiously – a little hobbled on Fi’s end – toward the Big Gooey that looked like it was melting.
Fi stopped suddenly as the Eldy-Cat put herself between the cannibal siblings and their sticky quarry. He tried to trot around her but she would move to block him any direction he tried. Giggling, he gave it a few more goes, as though the dance was a game, then finally gave up. He wasn’t very fast with two bandaged feet.
Eldy-cat! The boy admonished, still grinning, Inna way! He cocked his head to the side. It had never occurred to him that the Big Gooey wouldn’t want to see Smudge or Trouble. Had the little gooeys been bad? Maybe they were having a fight, just like Cal and he had just had. If they gave it time, they would be happy again. Big Gooey mad?
The Jack giggled again. Not Fi, Eldy-cat! Fi is me! He looked over at his brother. Everyone always had trouble telling he and siblings apart, but Fi always knew which sibling was which.
Swiveling his head, he turned to look at the Fish-Cat and Orange Not-Cat who seemed to be done playing with the Big Gooey. Awww… he hoped the Gooey wouldn’t get lonely. That would be sad. Maybe it needed to find a big people to be it’s friend, just like the little gooeys had he and Cal, who were also small.
No, only Cat goes to Other Place. We finds her. Sometimes still in Other Place. Sometimes not. His face grew wistful as he talked about their sibling. He still wished he could go to the Other Place. But only the fun one. Sometimes the Other Place was scary, and sister Cat screamed and was scared until her brothers came.
Lookit, Cal! Pretty! The Eldy-cat was staring at another not-house down the street. Fi had noticed and had delighted in the fancy lights around the door. Since they lived in a cardboard box that had no electricity, Fi was always delighted and fascinated by lights and fire. Maybe Cat an’ Other Place! He began limping his way toward the lit building.

By the time Sergei had managed to free the blob-monster, he was panting from the exertion and absolutely sopping wet. There was ink-stuff in his fur, and water trickling into his eyes and --
Something grabbed him.
The boy let out a startled yelp of shock and horror as he was pulled back into the thing. It was a gelatinous prison, closing tightly around him. He fought with all his strength, but it had been a long day, and the boy's energy was fading quickly. Besides, how could he fight off something that didn't seem to have anything in it that could be fought? Fear gripped him tightly. Why had he tried to help the thing? All he had known was that there seemed to be a person inside of it, and it was screaming in pain, and he'd just... He'd wanted to do something...
Finally, he stopped struggling, seeming to realize it wasn't going to do him any good. The ink-beast seemed to be clinging to him desperately, and then something hard bumped into him in all the goop.
Without thinking, Sergei reached for it and clung tight. Around him, the thing quaked and shook and then he was shot from inside of it, still holding onto whatever it was that had bumped into him. As soon as he was outside, he sucked in a deep breath, dunking his head under the water to wash the ink off, and then god his first look at what was in his arms.
Had there been anything in Sergei's stomach, he would have thrown up. As it was, he let out a plaintive wail, looking up to find the blob disintegrating before his eyes. "We gotta go, we gotta go NOW, come on, quick, quick..." Oh, Suits, he was holding onto a DEAD PERSON. They were clearly dead. A small voice in the back of his mind told him to hold onto it, because... Dead people deserved respect, not to be buried in a watery grave in a basement. He stumbled towards the steps and made his way up them, focused hard on just getting one foot in front of the other.
When he surfaced, he blinked once in the bright light. Some of the water sizzled when it hit bits of metal that were still heated, but the floor had cooled significantly since he'd gone below, and he still had most of his meat shoes on. He finally came to the group again, clinging to his skeleton, and whimpered. "It's broken," he whispered, echoing the creature's last words. Then he collapsed, skeleton still in his arms, into the ink puddle left by the other dead beast.
Her stomach was full to the point of bursting, sides looking distended from the volume of her meal. There was still meat on the body, but Cat reflected mournfully that there was no way she could eat more. If she left it out here, it would go bad, and that would just be awful. She grabbed the corpse by one mostly flesh-free arm, dragging it along behind her as she made her way for the shop with the meat. She was oblivious to the chaos surrounding the ink monsters, unknowingly using their distraction to hide her prey from their eyes. Once inside, she tucked it away in the cold-part, along with all the other food meats, shoved into the very back corner. Then she frowned.
Coming back to herself, she remembered her brothers, and all of the funny Cats and not-Cats. Where had they gone? They had been here before, hadn't they? "...helllllooooo? Fi? Cal? Lizard-Cat-Bristol? Helllllooooooo?"
Was she alone? Belatedly remembering the blobby things, she looked around the place. "Blobbies? You know where Cat-brothers go?" She didn't even see the blobbies, but that didn't have to mean they'd left! Maybe they were hiding out, too.

Eldy gave a wide smile to the children. "Yes! It's very mad!" she assured Fi, praying to whoever would listen that the kids would buy that. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see the puddle writhe feebly, and then go still. Tension she didn't know she'd been holding onto went out of her in a rush and she sat down on the ground again. That was hopefully the end of that. And...apparently she'd lost track of which sibling was talking. Well, the brothers sounded similar and both use similarly confusion word patterns, so she couldn't actually bring herself to feel very bad about it.
"Sorry," she said, shrugging awkwardly. She didn't even try to make sense of all that 'Other Place' garble. The kids would think what they wanted to think, though it did remind her slightly of what Jak had said about his daughter. Maybe their sister was similarly prone to weird spaceyness? It wasn't a very far stretch. Still...where could the girl have gone? Eldy looked around the street, past the burned husk, and some sort of fish shop (ugh, after what had happened to Nova she didn't want to think about that!) and then on to some other store--wait.
Wait.
Eldy frowned and her eyes tracked back for a second look at the fish shop. Specifically, the sign above it. "Hey, guys? What was that name the ink-thing said? Suvius? Cuz, uh, that shop says..." She pointed a paw and would have gone on if Sergei hadn't at that moment come -exploding- out of the remains of the burned shop, clutching something tightly and muttering to himself, and all but fell down into the puddle of black goop. Eldy puffed up, jumping back a bit, but, remembering Nova earlier, took a moment to steady her breathing. "Sergei," she said, finally, noticing that what he held looked to be part of something's skeleton. "What the hell. Are you okay?" Was everyone going to get eaten by ink monsters?
But if what that one had been saying was anything to go by, then she could at least figure out what was going on if she looked in that shop...she edged toward it, slightly. As much as part of her was sure she didn't want to -know- what could cause such creatures to exist...the rest of her was morbidly curious.

The puddle of goo seemed rather lifeless as he tapped at it with a paw a few more times before turning his attention to the cannibal children and Eldy. He grinned as he watched their interaction, clearly those children liked her despite her attitude. Although he had to give her credit, she was doing a lot better then she had been before. Perhaps there was hope for her to become a decent person yet!
The goo slipping through his fur was most uncomfortable and he shifted back to his human form to start trying to schlep it all off as the kids bantered on about the 'big squishie' and the 'little squishies'. He turned his attention to Eldy once more, about to give her an answer before her reaction, and the sounds behind him made him whirl around and take a step or two backward before he settled down a bit. It was just another of the kids and a.... what was that he was holding? A.... wait... no, it couldn't be a.... body.... could it? Is that how those parts got inside of the one that melted down? He went a bit pale at the prospect.... they could have died just a little bit ago.... hell, he could have died twice today. Although the second one that ate him didn't seem to be quite as malevolent as the first one.... because Sergei's goo covered form was a big hint that there was multiple creatures.
He made a grab for Lariel's arm and, should her reach it, he'd make an attempt to pull her back and away from the puddle on the ground. He agreed with Sergei, they needed to get out of her but.... wait.... weren't they missing a couple people? He could not, in good concious, leave behind a child, nor the other adult for that matter. He peered at the doorway where Sergei shot out of.
Where are the other two?
When they showed themselves though, he would make his way over to the shop that had everyone's attention as well.

((The shoppe in question is called: Suvius and Tamis; Bar and Fishery. The bar is obvious and wonderful! This thing must have been popular! Brightly patterned in Benyan and Selkie colors; the top is made from hollowed out glass with real colorful fish swimming around inside of it! Wow. The counter has taps on it, looks like they're still ready to dispense cold beer, and some clean cups. The cash register is sealed up tight, and in the back are two doors, and shelves upon shelves of bottled waters with different flavors.
It seems such a lovely place...wonder what's up with that slight sensation of foreboding that's hitting Fi and Eldy in the face? Oh, well. Might as well explore it, seeing as those huge monsters keep mentioning it. Right?))

The big gooey was mad at them? Cal's tufted ears drooped. Everyone was mad at him today. He hardly even noticed Eldy's error or his brother's correction as he contemplated this fact sadly. Or maybe the gooey was mad at Smudge and Trouble? If that was so, he would just have to keep Trouble far away from the giant one-- even with all those teeth, a little guy like his gooey could get hurt in a fight with something that big. The child put a protective paw on his familiar, who burbled in a low tone.
As Fi tried to explain about the Other Place where Cat went, Cal nodded, adding "Cat get lost in mind. Then walk in Other Place, also get lost in real." It made perfect sense to him, but Eldy still seemed perplexed. "In Other Place, Cat not see carriages, shut-closed doors sometimes, so we watch--"
He stopped short, looking in the same direction as his brother. Woah. A fish house. A magic fish house full of real, swimming fish-- He could see them through the large picture window. Maybe Cat was there, maybe not, but he knew one thing for certain: He wanted to go to there.
Conversation with Eldy completely forgotten, Cal started off at a quick trot to push his way into the magical-looking building that contained a long skinny table made of fish. "Fiiiiiish!" He squealed, poking at the clear surface as colorful shapes swam by under his paws. This was too incredible for coherent speech! "Fishfishfish!" He had never seen so many, nor so brightly colored. Calamity giggled in delight and wondered vaguely if they were good to eat as well as pretty.

Eldy caught a glimpse, out of the corner of her eye, of something -moving- in the shop. Which she could now see, now that she was closer, was called 'Suvius and Tamis'...her heart skipped a beat. Those were the two names the monster was saying! That was significant, and, child of a friend or not, more important right now than Sergei, who seemed to be fine after all. Besides...Cal had already ran off towards it. Eldy turned and jogged as best she could, iron ball clanking, towards the shop. Ear perked forward, she made her way inside, eyes wide with curiosity.
She felt...-odd-. Despite the colorful displays and lovely atmosphere, the entire place felt -off- in a profound way. Shaking the feeling aside as best she could, the Feline cautiously walked in, eying the shelves behind the bar and snorting, slightly. "Flavored water," she said incredulously, with a raised eyebrow. What in Wonderland could be the use of such a thing? While Cal was occupied with the fish, she carefully went to look around. She timed it, and then hopped nimbly over the counter, behind the cash register, metal ball just barely clearing the tank bar. Just as she'd thought, there were cabinets below the shelves of 'flavored water', and she pawed them open, looking for clues. Mostly, she found a lot of cleaning supplies, lots of extra cups, napkins, and, of course, a lot of fish food. She took out the cannister, looking thoughtful. Well, maybe this would occupy the kids while she had a better chance to look around?
"Hey Cal!" she said, grinning. "How would you like to feed the fish? Catch!" She tossed the container of fish food over the counter towards him.

The others followed and soon caught up. It wasn’t hard – Fi wasn’t exactly the fastest Card and now he was even more hobbled by his bandaged feet. Still, he was in good spirits. He had a blobby and his brother and now they just needed to find Cat. She hoped she was in the pretty lights place.
A bright array of swirling colors met his eyes. Selkie and Benyan colors decorated the interior. His eyes immediately found the gigantic bar filled with real-live fish. Wooooow. Fi was amazed. How did they get the fishes in there? Could they breathe in the glass? Were they good for eating?! Cal brushed passed him and the Jack soon trailed him, pressing his face eagerly against the glass. Moisture condensed in a small circle from Fi’s hot breath. It was amazing.
Lookit fishes! Hey! There was a fish in here that looked like the Fish-Cat! It had long fins all over just like she did! How funny!
An ear twitched, and Fi pulled away from the tank to look curiously around the shop. Something was not right. It was like that magic smell like outside, but it was different. It was…wrong. His skin prickled uncomfortably as he trotted around the place, searching for the source of his unease. There didn’t seem to be any others around. Why did it feel bad in this pretty, shiny place?
Then he knew what it was. It was like the Bad Place. Not as bad as the Bad Place (it was hard for anywhere to be as bad as that), but there was something similar. Bad Things had happened here. Somebody had done something wrong.
Cal… he whispered, suddenly afraid to draw attention to himself, and limping over to his brother and rubbing against his face. Cal, smell.

"Oo, yes!" He caught the cannister in one paw and popped it open, surprised by the smell of fish that wafted out of it. It smelled a bit like food, and if he was hungry enough he would have considered tasting a few of the flakes. "Foods, foods for fish!" There was no obvious way to get the food in to the fish from the front, so he hopped off the high bar stool and circled around to where Eldy stood, looking for a solution. "Fish door?" He mused, then quickly spotted the flap that could be opened to feed and care for the fish. Grabbing a pinch of food, he tossed it in and watched with glee as the fish swam up to devour it. "Fi, also give food?" He offered the cannister to his brother and stared into the tank thoughtfully.
"Foods for fish... smells like fish. Fish eat fish." Calamity looked at the brightly colored little creatures with an odd sort of resigned pity. Poor fish, they were bad too. It was sad that something so pretty could be so bad. Unless maybe the fish were not bad, because fish had no choice but to eat fish, because they were made to eat fish. That put a different spin on things...
His thoughts were interrupted by his brother's nervous demand. He nuzzled back and raised his beak to scent the air. He mostly smelled fish food and water, and maybe a tiny hint of cooking smells... then it hit him. He almost cringed as the faint but unmistakable feeling-that-was-almost-a-smell entered his nares. He sucked in a breath, making a soft hissing sound of surprise. "Bad Place not-smell. Prickly skin feeling." He said in a low voice. What was in here making that feeling-smell?
At this point, he had a choice to run back outside, or track down the prickly feeling. Outside also smelled wrong and off, and the big gooey was out there being mad at Trouble, so he felt limited to the scarier and more proactive option. Setting aside thoughts of the cannibalistic fish, Cal began rooting around behind the bar. Something was in here smelling wrong and he wanted to find it before it found him.
