The tone in the woman's voice was distinctly annoyed, and a pained expression went over Zuberi's face as she feared the worst. She hardly wanted to annoy the girl's family members. The change in temperament as the door opened clearly read as surprise on the torque's face.
Straight jacket? Well, it was less jarring than metal chains. Upon being bidden to come inside, she slipped in after the rambunctious little girl. Going under the assumption of taking a seat was acceptable, she sat down with a heavy sigh. Her back was killing her already.
"I'm sorry if I'm intruding.. I didn't know where exactly to go." Zuberi said with a small smile, smoothing Charlie's feathers down smooth on his back as he perched in her lap. She couldn't help but glance around the room, scouting for baby pictures. It seemed she was looking for such things nowadays, but especially because she wanted to find out any signs of the mystery litter she'd caught wind of.

Peaches never kept family pictures out in the open. For one thing she had issues with people prying into her life, for a second she didn't want anyone to know that she was a mother and grandmother. It was a rather off putting subject for her considering it made her feel old. And Peaches refused to admit such a thing.
"It's fine, really. All the staff is supposed to keep a few of the documents around. We just still haven't managed to get the system completely worked out." Peaches said as she crossed the room and opened one of her desk drawers.
Linnea bounced on her hind legs, reaching up at one of the paper piles. She carefully and slowly attempted to take one of the papers from the pile. It was an automatic reaction from the woman in a straight jacket, her hand went out the grab the paper. Linnea carefully let go and went back to being seated on the floor. She gave a bright grin to Zuberi. "Grandma Peaches is really fun," she announced brightly.
Peaches gave a small snort as she pulled out several papers from the drawer. "Here we go Miss Zuberi." Peaches offered the woman the papers. It was something she could easily fill out and the noble just needed to sign off.
Zuberi. That name sounded familiar. She had heard it once or twice in passing when she ease dropped on conversations around the palace. Heilyn and Seth had mentioned her. A Queen of Clubs to boot. Heh. Clubs. "You wouldn't happen to be a friend of--"
"She's Grammy Heilyn's friend!" Linnea interjected.
Peaches peered over her desk. The little girl gave her a bright look. "Do you want a chair, Nea?"
"I'm fine here!"
Peaches turned back to the Queen. "All you need to do is put your name, his name, region and so forth. And since you brought him along you don't need proof of ownership beyond that."

Zuberi smiled warmly to the woman as she passed the paper over, using whatever pen was laying around that didn't look especially important and personal, quickly filling out the information. She was glad her father homeschooled her.. because they didn't always teach the children in her village how to read and write common. Even now, her script was a little too "Midori" for her tastes, but it was legible.
The Midori was going to answer when Linnea piped up. Instead of annoyance, that stupid.. motherly type feeling went all over her again. Certainly she'd always wanted children.. but this was obnoxious. She chuckled at herself under her breath, trailing off into a wistful sigh as she stuck the pen back in the inkwell.
She let the parchment sit for a moment to let the ink dry. "If it is alright with you, I was going to take Linnea to the kitchens for a bite to eat. I thought I should also extend de invitation to you if you haven't eaten lunch yet... I'm not sure how you spend your lunches.. but I didn't want to not offer." Zuberi immediately wondered if that was a bad idea. She'd not hesitate to ask someone from the Midori for a friendly bite to eat.. but things were so different.. so foreign in the Court. Friendliness was reserved for select few people behind closed doors, it seemed. Damnit.. Zuberi hated the Courts..

Peaches took the paper when offered and signed her name and title on the paper. She slipped it onto the pile of paperwork that was dubbed finished and of high importance. At least there was a lot more of it than there had been before. Her head tilted slightly at the offer as she turned to the woman. Her eyes glanced over the squirrel who had bounced up high enough to see over the desk once or twice.
And then she looked at the pile of paperwork she had been neglecting.
Stupid. Paperwork.
"Unfortunately I will have to decline. I have an unfortunately huge workload to do." She gave a small sigh. "But if Linnea is too much for you to handle, feel free to drop her off here. She can be a bit too energetic at times."
The little squirrel made a whining sound as she looked up from the floor. "But Grandma...."
"The pouty face won't work if I can't see it."
The girl frowned. The woman was right of course. She gave a small huff of defeat as she looked up at Zuberi. "I guess we should leave Grandma to work."

Well, at least the woman had the heart to consider the offer, but Zuberi's glance had followed hers to the paperwork, and was able to give the woman a sympathetic smile. "That's fine; I understand.. I wouldn't want to be the cause for you to fall behind. Would ye like me to tell someone to send something up?" It was the least she could do, and they'd be heading to the kitchens anyways.
"Oh, she's not a problem at all. After all, use to take care of Hadrian and... Well, Seth's kids. I think I can handle her." That bright smile had faltered, a.. very pained look going across her face. She still found it hard to think of Rhiannon. To utter her name was just too much. Quickly, she recovered, giving the bouncing Linnea a tickle with her bare toe to keep her from jumping around.
"But.. Thank you for the help. It was nice to finally meet you."

Peaches blinked in slight surprise at the offer. A small smile crossed her face, but only briefly. "That's a very nice offer, thank you. If you could just tell them to send the usual that would be amazing."
The woman refrained from snorting at the mention of Hadrian. He had been one heck of a handful when he was younger. She was honestly surprised the boy had grown up to be somewhat sane. And she took note of the lack of mention of Rhiannon. It was to be expected, of course. Part of Peaches was still quite bitter the woman had left Xiven in the dust for Lior. As sweet as the boy had been she couldn't help but favor her daughter.
Linnea fell into a fit of giggles when she was tickled by the foot. It had certainly stopped her from jumping around with boundless energy. And it was enough of a signal that she should remain quiet until the adults were done.
Peaches raised an eyebrow at the comment of "finally meeting." Had Seth actually spoke about her? Oh dear. "It was nice meeting you too. I hope you have a nice stay at the palace."

The usual? Very easy to remember! Especially since she didn't have to know what 'the usual' was. If it got messed up, she wasn't to blame. Ehehehe. "Aye, will do." Her smile only widened at the seemingly suspicious arch of the woman's brow, giving a courteous nod of her head before heading to the door, ace in hand.
She'd certainly not doubted what had been told to her, either by Seth or by Eldy... but to see that look go across that woman's face.. ohoho! Was it so bad that she enjoyed it? The Courts people were so terribly uptight about these things sometimes; it wasn't as if monogamy was something most people were guilty of in most of the world and its culture... But it was hilarious how people didn't like to admit it!
With a bounce in her step despite her back pain, she looked around, then down at the girl. "Now.. I don't come down ta visit often.. but I -think- I may remember.." She pointed in a general direction that she thought she remembered it being, her brow furrowing. "Down that way perhaps? Never had to get there from this side."

Linnea happily followed the woman out of the door. When she paused, unsure of where to go, the little girl inspected the hallway. The kitchen from Peaches' office. She'd done this before. "No... it's this way!" the little squirrel said pointing in the proper direction.
It was a short trip to the kitchen, though it was a little bit confusing to some degree. The little squirrel knew the way by heart, since the kitchen was one of the best places to go. Sometimes people were willing to give her a few snacks if she was cute enough. Most of the time though they were too busy to notice her.
She made a happy sound when they arrived at their destination. She looked up at Zuberi with wide eyes. "You can go first!" she said cheerfully as she took a step to the side. Zuberi was a guest, and an adult. People would pay attention to her before they even bothered to look down at the little girl.

"How polite of you!" Zuberi praised the girl, giving a little playful curtsy before striding into the kitchen, holding the door open for the young squirrel behind her.
Ahh.. the kitchen. What as there to say about it? It smelled of food, food and more food, and was relatively clean as well. Then again, a kitchen of the Court of Hearts had to be in top condition.. and busy!
She nearly had to snatch a boy up by the collar to get his attention, relaying quickly what Peaches had requested and letting him know of their own hunger before letting him go about his business.
"Aie! They seem busy!" Zuberi exclaimed, making note to stay out of their way. Then again, it -was- getting close to lunchtime, and no doubt there were many nobles making requests for food at this time of day.

Linnea giggled at the curtsy, giving a bow of her own in response. When the door was opened she trotted through cheerily.
It really was busy, and she stepped to the side to avoid getting tripped on. Oh right! It was lunch time! That meant there was going to be a lot of people running around. It also meant they could probably catch Mommy Xiven and Daddy in the gardens! Her tail twitched happily at the thought. When Zuberi had grabbed the attention of the young man, the little squirrel made sure to let him know what she wanted as well. He was nice enough not to ignore her.
"It's worse at dinner!" The little squirrel said happily as she moved closer to Zuberi. She really was getting closer to having her tail stepped on. Her tail curled around the woman as she watched the people hurry past. They'd be getting food really soon.
