He released her and rested one paw on the ground and brought the other one up to rub at his eyes even though most of the tears had already soaked into his fluffy cheeks. He was ... even more thankful that Nova wasn't here, the fire winged pup would have been teasing him horribly for days about being a cry baby, but Vesper never did and he was thankful. When she was home everything was fine and he didn't have to worry, but every time she walked out that door ... that's when it hit. Part of him wished she'd take him with her, but another part said he might just get her into even more trouble ... after all, he was the worst looking out of all three of them. At least Vesper had some other colors... and was put together in a flattering manner.
I can't help but worry, you always... come back beat up. I ... don't like it... I...
He took a deep breath, trying to get control of himself again ... he didn't want to completely break down ... he had that much pride at least. He pulled his wings in as close to his sides as he possibly could... and that's when he got an idea ... they were accidental but maybe ....
W-what if... I found a way to make things better for you? Would you.... stop this?

Vesper leaned into her brother, trying hard to keep from getting blood on him, and attempted to soothe him with another gentle lick.
"Make things better? I don't think there's any way to change what we are..." Though she'd thought about it, many times over. Cosmetic changes, bandages to cover up the rot... but it was all just a quick fix, none of it was a real possibility. Gently she licked her brother, trying to smile for him despite the lingering pain and nausea. However, whether or not it was possible, she knew that if she said nothing then Kat would only keep worrying, so she'd tell him what he wanted to hear: "But if you could? Yeah... I'm sure I would, I'm going to try and be better after tonight... I really did go too far." Yet, deep down inside, she knew she was lying to herself.
Dying wasn't in her plans for the future but there was a bitterness deep in her heart that not even death had purged.
"Hey... Silly question, ...but could you, y'know... help me into the shower?" Vesper laughed a little, the sound awkward. She was a sordid mess and, really, didn't want to continue basting in her own blood and vomit but there was really no way she'd be able to manipulate the shower on her own.

Well, he may not have believed her... but it gave him the motivation to start looking for a way to make everything go away. It was an impossible desire, even he knew it, but he'd try... for her. Maybe just the simple act of his search would make things a little better ... even if the whole thing made him uneasy. His own comfort was far less important to him then his sister ... he really didn't know what he'd do without her. She'd always stuck up for him, even if it had been in a manner that he disapproved of. really, they'd been close for as long as he could remember.
He tilted his head and started the groom through her short fur with his beak, making extra sure the sharp tip didn't nick her. The smell of her made his stomach turn, but he'd groom her anyway.
That awkward laugh pulled him from his thoughts and made his little ears flip forward with concern as he pulled his head back to give her a look to match. The sight of the empty hole that had once been her eye made his stomach lurch and his fur fluff ... it was more then a little disturbing to see it that close ... but she did make a valid point.
A-all right. I think we should get you a little cleaned up before momma sees you ... you know he's going to have a fit either way.
He got up onto his mismatched feet and offered her his shoulder as well as the rest of his side. He was the biggest of the trio, always had been, and he was built solid .... so he wasn't worried about falling over even if she rest most of her wight against him. He'd just have to be careful with how he placed his taloned hind feet ...

Vesper could tell he was worried, but she couldn't say anything. What could she say? She spent more of her time thinking up cruel insults and had lost a bit of her knack for compassionate comfort along the way. It felt a little silly when she thought about it like this, but maybe she'd work on being a little nicer instead of just picking fights less...?
"Yeah... I know he is." She sighed a little and bumped her head against her brother. "Thanks for worrying about me." Kat was the only one she wanted to see right now and, while she hated that he worried so much, she was so very glad that he'd been awake to greet her instead of possibly running into someone else.
So she leaned on him, and let him help her to the bathroom, and once inside she stumbled straight for the shower. "I think... just turn it on, yeah? A bit of a chill at first will probably help clear my head." She flopped against the wall of the shower, tail curling up around herself as she waited for the blast of fresh water to hit.

When he felt her weight against him he leaned back ever so slightly and walked her to the closest shower, matching his pace to her's as he tried to push the dark thoughts from his mind. She was still here, and she needed tending to ... he couldn't be distracted by what ifs and the like. He ground his beak, and the few teeth he had, momentarily before focusing on what needed to be done.
He was quiet, but the twitching of his ears would give the fact hat he was listening away. He nodded, turned to the wall and rose up on his hind feet and reached up with a canine paw and pulled the lever down, twitching a bit at the sound of the water. Just like their mother he wasn't really fond of it... not because he didn't know how to swim ... but because he didn't like getting wet. But ... she was probably too sore and tired to get all of the blood, grime and vomit out of her coat so, after a moment of uncertainty, he hopped in as well. He was unable to completely kill the little noise in his throat, which ended up sounding like a cross between a short whine and a squeak, but he'd be fine....
I'll help you wash up, I think you'll need it.
He moved over to where a variety of floral scented soaps were located, ironic for a home with lowlanders and mixes really, and selected one and, ignoring any protests she might of had, maneuvered the bottle, applied the gel like substance and then started to scrub the rose scent goo into her fur. He even used his dull canine claws to help get out the more persistent patches of grime whilst being careful of her injuries... she really was a royal mess wasn't she?
He didn't let himself look down at the water coming off her. He knew it wouldn't simply be clear and soapy, he just didn't want to see it.

The water hit like a blast of ice before slowly warming to a temperature of moderate comfort. It was probably warmer than she felt but there was an iciness in her bones that was refusing to leave. Oi.
For a second she just sat there, breathing and taking in the relaxing sensation of the water pouring around her. She wasn't one to be picky about how it felt, it was just nice to know she would be getting all the mess off.
When Kat jumped in she was both surprised and thankful, something told her trying to groom herself just then would result in worse injuries. "Thanks Kat, I know you're not overly fond of showers." She licked the edge of his beak and smiled a little before he popped open the rose-scent bath soap. How ironic... but it was her favorite scent.
"Good choice," was all she bothered to murmur as she joined him in trying to get herself as clean as possible.
It would take quite some time before all the grime was finally freed from her coarse fur and sent running down the drain. She still felt woozy and weak, but being clean made that slightly less terrible.
The rat-dog shook herself slightly, cautious of any of her wounds splattering blood around. The caution returned her thoughts to the other priority: she was still bleeding. Using her dexterous paws she was able to locate the bandages on her own but she was stopped short before she could apply them. Her reflection briefly halted her with the disturbing vision of herself... only eyeless. Vesper swallowed and sunk down out of view of the mirror.
"I think... I'm gonna... need help with the bandages..." What in the name of the suits was she going to do about that eye? ...She had no clue how to handle wounds like that.

He personally preferred the more... earthy smelling soap but he'd be alright smelling like roses just this once. When she seemed satisfied with her level of cleanliness he got up and nudged the lever back up before leaping out, skidding across the tile a bit and giving himself a vigorous shake. Water droplets flew out of his coat and landed all over the wash room. He didn't really care that it was a mess... he just wanted the water off of him. His nose twitched a bit..... the bathroom officially smelt like an odd combination of roses and wet dog.
He turned his attention back to Vesper before peering down at his own feet ... he wasn't really useful when it came to things like that. His front paws were entirely canine and had no real dexterity and his hind legs could hold things.... but nothing more really. He looked back up and put his ears back ...he hated to do this ... but ...
I think I should go wake Momma...
The rat-eagle had hands, something they both lacked and something that would be terribly useful right about now. Their mother also had more knowledge when it came to treating wounds and he could probably stop the bleeding faster then they could, get the proper salve out and have her fixed up in a short time versus doing it themselves. His ears twitched as he hesitated a moment to see what she thought.

Vesper stopped short when Kat mentioned Momma.
Suits... Even as the words were leaving Kat's mouth, Vesper knew he was right. Their paws were designed to properly maneuver with bandages and Vesper was shaking too heavily to tend to herself like she usually would.
Momma... Momma's hands would help, but he'd be so distraught... The canine mix briefly touched a paw to her empty eye socket before slumping down all together and covering her head with her long limbs.
"I..." She had so hoped that she could tidy up a bit more before Momma came in and had to witness it, but Kat was right. "I guess there's really no choice, paws aren't all that useful for this... is it?" A little groan escaped Vesper but she didn't move her head from underneath her paws.
This was going to be unpleasant in so many ways... but it'd be better to just get it over quickly, right? Like pulling out a thorn, or something like that.
