Well the power came back on. So I present you with these two lovely fics that I managed to write.
Rocky wasn't quite sure what to do with himself. He had a son, who was more than capable of handling everything. He had a wonderful list of clients that came and went. He was eatting grilled cheese. Life was perfect.
But something was missing.
He sighed as he took the last bite of his meal. What was missing? He was doing what he loved, he had a family, ande yet there was a small part of him that wanted something else.
The raccoon wings fluffled up with agitation when he went to do the dishes. Was it because he was lonely? Ataxia had never come back. No one really knew where she was. And he was left to wonder why everything had happened the way it did. Why hadn't she even told him that she was pregnant? Had the Courts been more important?
He didn't like the Courts. No matter what he did, he couldn't actually like them. They were places filled with nothing but corruption. Whoever was part of them always ended up tainted. It turned people into monsters. And he had yet to find an excpetion to the rule.
The knock on the door caught him completely off guard. He made an alarmed cry when he dropped and cracked the dish he had been throughly cleaning. The raccoon scoffed at himself before hurrying to answer the door.
Yet another surpise. "Loreta! What are you doing here?"
"Just wanted to have a little chat," she said cheerfully while taking a step inside.
Cheerful? Loreta. That seemed odd. Rocky shut the door behind the woman. A curious expression on his face. "A chat? I something going on with Kaden?"
"Sort of," she said. Taking her ususal chair she made herself comfortable. She waited for the raccoon to join her.
Rocky shifted awkwardly.Something was coming. Something he didn't like was coming. That would be the only reason she was trying to make him comfortable. His feathers fluffed up as he took a seat next to the chair that he always loved, and now could only sit in if he was in an animal form. For now he might as well stay in his quasi-bipedal form. Then he could curl in a ball and cry somewhere.
"I'm thinking of joining the Courts."
Rocky stared for a few long moments, his wings tight against his body as his ears pressed against his skull. The Courts. It was always with the Courts. Why did everyone that he liked seem to gravitate towards that horrible place? At least Ophelia had no interest in the Courts. But then again she was famous, had a large family, and the list went on. And here Rocky was losing someone else.
"You?" he finally said.
"I know, right? But I think I need a change of pace. And from the looks of it the Court of Hearts needs the most help." She smirked. "I think I could at least make a good cook there. And it would give Kaden a chance to be independent."
"Uh... huh," Rocky said after another long pause. "You want me to watch him? And probably Hatter?"
She nodded.
Wonderful.
"Are you sure you want to go? I mean... you'd probably have to change your attitude and everything."
"I'll just leave if they aren't willing to put up with me. Simple as that."
"Life really isn't that simple."
"Sure it is. Your life is pretty simple. You have clients, you have a son, you do what you love. Simple. My plan is simple, and if worse comes to worst I'll just come back to Corvistowne. Simple." Loreta said with a nod.
The raccoon was at a loss. There was no way he could win as far as Loreta was concerned. He had to admit defeat. "I'm going to make some tea, would you like to join me?"
Why couldn't he figure out what was missing? Everyone else seemed to be happy and he should have been happy. He brushed it all off.
No point in being upset when he couldn't even figure out what the problem was. He put on his happy face and went to make that tea if Loreta was joining him or not.
Mistakes happen. This one, however was bigger than most.
She was getting sick of it. The staring. The comments. The damn smell. It was time to take this rotting Lowlander leg off. Even if it was more stable than not having one, she didn't want to deal with it anymore.
The eyesore had to go. So she needed to get this thing removed. And who could she go to to get the problem solved? She did live in Corvistowne. But flesh wasn't particularly Hatter's specialty. And there was only one other Corvie that she actually trusted.
So there was the matter of asking him. How exactly was she supposed to go up to the flight specialist and ask for him to chop her leg off? The woman normally didn't care but Rocky he was... well Rocky. Though he was a successful Corvie who had managed to make his goals a reality.
Having a nice chat might work. The woman casusally started up a conversation with him. He seemed angry at first, which was a little odd for Rocco. But he warmed up rather quickly.
They had a nice cup of tea. She figure it was the best way to break it to him. "So, Rocky, can you chop off my leg?"
She watched placidly when he nearly dropped the tea.
"You what?"
"I need you to take off my Lowlander leg."
"Me?"
"Yes you. You are a chemical Corvie right?"
"I don't do legs. If I remove limbs it's wings."
"Please?"
"Loreta... I..."
***
It took a good deal of convincing but here she was. She was going to get her leg removed. Though she insited on being awake for the surgery, with Hatter by her side everything was going to be okay.
Or so she thought.
Loreta's life had always had a variety of unfortunate events. So one more unfortunate thing happening shouldn't have been a surpise.
Everything was normal until there was a sudden sharp pain. It was something she thought she could ignore as she desperately clung to Hatter.
But it got worse. So much worse. A blood curdling scream escaped her. And her Lowland leg started growing back.
It was very clearly growing back.
Loreta had believed herself to be unfortunate, but this was a completely new shade of well... unfortunate. All the screaming in the world couldn't make the pain less, and make the process shorter.
It felt like an enternity. After it was all over, Rocky kindly informed her that it had been a full day. And that hideous appendage had returned to all of its glory.
Life was wonderful when it was filled with so many disapointments.
At least now she would never try this stupid feat again.
