As the sun filtered into the small window of the room, a mass of green, tan and blue twitched. The thick feathery growths along his back stood on end, wings splayed, teeth flashed.... into a mighty yawn as his body stretched. He had rested quite peacefully for having stayed at one of the shadier of hotels. But now it was obviously time to wake; he had much to do before getting back on the road. Now, time to face the reason he had no disturbances. A small smile peeled back his jackal lips, crooning carefully to the sleeping jubjub bird to rouse her. Normally he would have been met with an angry screech, but Archimedes was particularly docile from a huge meal the other day. He'd had to stuff her stupid to get her all the way to the Capital and have a stranger handle her. She'd received a wound from a bander she had killed, and the wound had become infected to the point he'd been forced to seek out someone with the expertise to deal with it. Claws trimmed, belly full, and the source of her pain alleviated and bandaged up quite nicely, the beast was almost pleasant to be around. Perhaps he'd take her out with him to run his daily errands. In truth, he really didn't feel like leaving her by herself. Though it was unlikely, someone with enough tenacity and magic could certainly take her if they wished. Her hood in place, she settled herself down on the shoulder of his wing, content to shove her face within his heavy feathering and continue her nap. Perhaps he'd have to make a habit of stuffing her silly. Merlin stopped in front of the mirror, checking himself over and making sure his fur was straight. Finally, his intense eyes fell on his bare chest. "Oh, this certainly won't do.." Almost like blood, a pattern began to form, staining his tan fur with a bright 8 of diamonds. He wasn't fond of how red looked on his pelt, diamonds held a status that wasn't as distracting as a heart, but certainly more respected than club or spades. Yes, the mark of the diamond would suit his purpose in the capital. Paying his tab, Merlin left the Inn, a serene smile on his face as he took in the sight of the grimy streets. Now.. time to find a decent place to shop! Careful not to jostle his passenger too greatly, he strode down the street, evaluating each shop carefully as he walked by.

A thick strapped bag hung across her form, effectively hiding the spot where a mark - or lack of - would have shown her for who she was. Years of experience had taught her that it usually took more than just a glance, or even a few conversations, before someone even vaguely wondered her rank or suit. Oddly enough the missing butt, live ivy, and general weirdness that surrounded her people tended to get distracted. She was finally back after having been gone a few years. Her 'internship' of sorts had paid off and with its completion and had brought her back home. After spending some quality time with her siblings and parents she was glad to have the day to herself. Walking down the street she saw right off that some small things had changed, as things always seemed to do in the bustling Capital. A few shops were not what they were or a few new ones had been built. With no where in particular in mind at the moment she continued down the street.

One saw a great many thing in the bazaar; some things became commonplace while others would still catch attention. Even Lowlanders weren't given more than an uncomfortable glance amongst the various hybrids and strange mutations, though certainly no one went after Merlin's coin pouch with his terrifying pet on his shoulder.
What one didn't see, was a creature who quite frankly, had nothing more than what seemed to be ectoplasm for a hind end. He outright stopped, nearly getting run into by another pedestrian, and by sheer luck the man didn't get his eye pecked out and his brains eaten on the spot. Archimedes squalled angrily and flared her wings, mollified only when her handler grabbed the leather leash that attached to her hood and gave it a tug the other way around.
"Not now, Archimedes. Look over there." The creature glassily looked toward whatever her handler was looking at, but quickly grew disinterested and began preening the feathers around her bandaged wound. "Never mind you, then.. but behave..."
Casually, he sauntered over to where the strange girl was window shopping, arms crossed before him and a brow arched with curiosity. "You... My dear.. are an interesting sight. Were you born with such strange mutations?" Merlin asked, quite serious and seemingly uncaring that his question was both intrusive and uncalled for. Still, he was not outwardly rude, but rather apologetically curious.
