Felix didn't mind taking the lead sometimes, if that was what his date wanted. He'd been to the Capital often enough on the arm of some pretty man or woman to know what the best spots were that fit his modest price range. The only question was whether to tell her now, or leave it as a surprise. He abruptly decided that the latter would be more fitting, so he smiled a bit mischievously. "I have just the place in mind," he said, tilting his head towards her with a grin. Of course, if she actually asked him to reveal it, he wouldn't keep it a surprise...but some people liked that. Found it romantic.
Looking in her eyes to make sure it was okay, he reached out to snag one of the tarts, still smiling at her. "So what time do you get off?" he asked. After all, he had to make sure to get them the correct reservation. Which honestly made the restaurant he was taking her to sound a bit higher class than it was, but it did tend to be popular on nights like this. He took a careful bite of the tart, and made an appreciative 'mm' noise. Still warm, and very, very good. His whiskers twitched happily as he chewed, savoring the luscious pastry. He made sure none of the filling got on his scarf.

Isolde looked at him curiously, wondering where he was taking her. She hesitated to ask because she wasn't sure if she wanted to leave it as a surprise or just get it all out now. Nodding her head in a final gesture, she decided that she would just wait and see where he took her; that would make the night the whole lot better anyway. Surprises were like the best parts of life... you never knew what was around the corner.
"Mmmm, I get off in about an hour and a half... is that enough time to prepare?" she asked with a mischievous grin. She knew this night was going to be fun already. She just needed to lock up the store and clean herself up a little first. Baking all day had led to her getting flour in places you really shouldn't. Can't have that kind of thing in a nice restaurant, now can we?

Felix grinned, glad that he was going to be able to surprise Issy. This would be fun! He'd do his best to make sure the girl had a good night out. "All right, I'll see you then, Issy," he said, sweeping her a surprisingly graceful bow for all his bulk, and nabbing another tart on the way out. She did, after all, technically offer him the batch! He hummed to himself as he left the shop, knowing he needed to do this just right...but as usual, of course, the Porcupine never rushed to do anything. Nope, rushing would only lead to unnecessary stress, and no one needed that in their lives.
Besides, he had a plan B if his first intentions fell through. That was another good thing about surprises. You could always switch it up at the last minute.
----
In just slightly over the alloted time period (punctuality wasn't something the laid back Selkie regarded overly highly) Felix returned to the bakery, wearing the same purple scarf and a smile, and carrying a single carnation behind his back. Yeah, he was a bit cheap for it not being a rose, but...he wanted to make sure he could cover their dinner tonight fully. "Issy?" he called out cheerfully, looking inside the glass windows for her white and purple form.

As he left the bakery, Isolde went right to work finishing up the last batch she had to remake and any other nightly chores before closing. It was peaceful in the store when it was closed... she was just glad to have some time to herself to think.
The time went by quickly after Felix left; Isolde closed up the shop and ran home real quick to take a shower and just get cleaned up in general. Luckily he had been a little late as that gave her a little bit more time to relax. She hadn't noticed he arrived until he called out her name and she bounded cheerfully outside. "Hi Felix, ready to go?" she said, a little more like her bubbly self now that she was clean.
"Lead the way!" she could tell tonight was going to be a fun albeit long night. Luckily life was fully of adventures!

Felix's face lit up in a big grin as soon as he saw her come out of the shop. He smiled at her. "You bet I am!" he proclaimed, but first...he held the flower out, bowing just slightly. "For you," he said, smiling sheepishly and hoping she liked flowers. A lot of girls did, but you could never be sure...most of them, even if they weren't big on them, could at least appreciate the romantic gesture.
After she had taken the flower, he would start to walk, making his unhurried way through the streets toward the restaurant they tonight's reservation at. His spiked tail swung lazily behind him as he walked, and he glanced back over his shoulder to make sure the pretty white form of the Selkie mix was following him.
It wouldn't take them too long to reach their destination...a rather middle class restaurant called The Laughing Chef and with a picture of a very jovial Card on the sign. Issy may or may not have heard of it, but Felix shot a glance back at her to make sure it was okay. They had very good food, especially soup, and it all fell within Felix's price range. Also, one of the waitresses had a soft spot for young couples and would usually get anyone that even looked like they were on a date one free glass of wine each, so that was another reason he liked to come here.

Isolde wasn't sure how to react when Felix presented her with the flowers. He was so sweet! "T-thank you" she said awkwardly and took them from him.
She actually really liked flowers, her favorite being blue roses. She got her appreciation for flowers from her father, Peder. He was always telling her about the newest one he planned to plant in his backyard. Slowly they walked toward their destination, Isolde looking over at Felix every so often still trying to figure him out. Was he just a sweet guy or would he want more from her? Only time would tell what his intentions were and Isolde could decide what to do then.
They finally got the restaurant and Isolde was relieved to find it wasn't a totally snooty kind of place; she always felt really awkward when she went to snobby places as she was not exactly anybody important.

Felix blushed a bit when she took the flowers, the pink just barely visible under the pale fur of his cheeks. He thought Issy was a very sweet little thing, and he was glad he'd run into her earlier. And not just because those tarts had been amazing. He would have gotten a rose, if he he'd had just a bit more money with him, but under the circumstances he'd thought a carnation better than no flowers.
His glance back to Isolde showed that the restaurant seemed acceptable; in fact he thought he may have read relief in her eyes. So with a very bright smile, Felix pushed open the door, making sure she got through as well before he let it close, and confidently gave his name to the hostess. She led them to a little table with flowers in the middle and candles in holders in the wall, a private little booth that could easily be the perfect spot for a romantic meal.
"Order whatever you like, Issy, tonight's on me," he told her bravely as he gently took his scarf off and tucked it aside. He thought he had enough to cover the night, and she had given him free dessert earlier already!
As for what he wanted out of the night...well, Felix was very laid back about these sorts of things. He'd follow whatever cues the girl gave him, though he certainly wouldn't object if after dinner they went somewhere to...have a little fun.
