Nellwyn didn't bother to hide her absolute glee that she was getting to the Rat so badly. He was confused, disoriented, unsettled, and uncomfortable, and it just made Nell's dark, sadistic little heart so happy. And despite being a coward (try as he would to justify his actions to himself, she would give no other name for someone who would abandon his livelihood at the first sniff of danger) he hadn't yet scurried off back to his filthy den, and this amused her, as well.
Her tail lashed lightly as she stared, unblinkingly, as he rooted around in his bag again. She didn't answer his defensive words. At least he was polite. Impolite cowardly fools soon met their ends, if not by her, than by some other unpleasant individual that called these streets home.
She looked over the weapons with a careful eye, silent as she studied them. These, unlike the first bits of junk he'd brought out, were obviously of good make. Her eyes flickered over a sword (was it real Mid-Range steel? He must have stolen that one, but it was far too large and obvious for her needs) a whip (how delightfully plebeian!) and some sort of fancy Corvie weapon (which she would probably need instruction to use, even with her Heart power, and she doubted the Rat could give it) before finally landing on a knife. She reached out a paw to run it over the hilt, which seemed to be made of actual bone. The blade was well made steel and, as she found when she ran a paw gently over it, quite sharp.
Licking up the blood welling on her pawpad, she glanced over at the Rat and purred, "How much for that knife?"

He knew that he hadn't put a real good expression of himself down; but he really, really could care less right now. He kept digging a few more weapons out, looking at her briefly to see that she looked at them. He let out a soft sigh, the chance that he was going to get killed was a bit smaller right now, but she still could change her mind. The prospect was thrilling (he always liked a good adventure) and freezing (bodily that was) at the same time. He didn't really want to die that soon.
He licked his lips briefly as she finally settled her gaze on one of the weapons. He looked at her, trying to determine how much he could ask for this. He all did this in a short amount of time, lest he raised suspicion in his customers "Around twenty gold-pieces." He finally spoke, it wasn't terrible much (he thought) and she looked like she was able to pay it. He however decided to stay on her nice side however "I maybe am willing to let it go cheaper." He offered.
He finally looked away, taking the ones he had thrown on the ground and stuffed them back. He only let out the knife as he waited patiently for her reaction. The muscles still tense while he desperately tried to keep it from showing, but he had the sense that she nonetheless could see it "So, what will it be miss?" He finally questioned, tapping his claws against his sides.

Nellwyn's ears twitched at the sum; it was certainly not much for a weapon of such quality, and she knew that, but she let herself sneer anyway until the rodent added he'd be willing to go cheaper. She laughed, then. It wasn't a very pleasant sound, nice in and of itself maybe, but there was no joy in it and an underlying current of danger shadowed every breath. Her tail swished and she crouched, as if she was planning to pounce...a Cat on a Mouse.
But no, the next moment, as his nervous voice filled the silence again, she stopped, sitting back down on her haunches and looking bored with the conversation, licking her paw. "Eleven gold pieces," she said after a long moment, in a haughty tone. Haggling was a form of social nicety she usually had no patience for, but at the moment it pleased her to play this little game. The Rat should hope it pleased her to do so for a bit longer. She had already determined she was going to have that knife, of course, one way or the other. It wouldn't be thievery if she took the price out of his sorry little hide.
Then, it was just his blood payment so she wouldn't end his pitiful existence.

His form tensed once more (he seemed to do that a lot this evening) as she laughed and crouched. He knew that she could pounce on him any moment like this, something that he didn't dare to imagine. He swallowed once more and felt his breath freeze in his lungs, trying to be discreet he coughed a few times and sucked in new breath that mentioned lungs demanded of him. He knew that it wasn't much, but he wasn't willing to try and ask more. He suspected that he could ask a lot more out of her, but the vibe stopped him in his tracks.
He narrowed his eyes when she said she would pay eleven "Nineteen." He spoke in turn, almost liking this. He also wouldn't go lower than fifteen, especially not for her, unthanks that she scared the crap out of him. Eleven was too little and he didn't want to go bankrupt because he couldn't stand his ground against a (scary) cat. If she didn't accept fifteen then he would go back up and above the twenty. He was deterred to get a good price of it, even if it would give him a heart-attack and a few new scars to gloated of against his friends when he forgot the panic after a good few glasses of alcoholic beverage.

Nellwyn delighted in his fear of her; it made her blood sing and her dark little soul very happy. A part of her felt a sort of pity for the wretched creature, but even that part was rather entranced by the pretty little weapon at the moment. We could do so much with it...yes, we could kill, we could cut, we could purify...so well made, but without any artifice...and he has no idea what it is worth! Tread carefully, therefore...make the purrrfect bargain come to fruition... Don't tell me what to do, White!
She stuck her nose into the air, a smug grin on her face, the demon still in control. She grinned, showing fang and menace. "You must be joking. Surely you will not make me pay any higher than thirteen for it?" Her long tail lashed, eyes bright with warning. She couldn't believe that some would call her insane...she was perfectly sane, or how else would she be so calm and in control of every situation? Even when she was forced to do that which she loathed, she was still in control. She was still willingly allowing herself to play their stupid, filthy games!

He raised an eyebrow, his paws finally put down "Fifteen is the lowest I will go, Miss." He spoke. His tail moving lightly and clawed digits twitching in nervously. She scared him, but he had faced hotter fires, hadn't he? He hadn't, but he could lie to himself as much he liked, especially if it withheld him from turning and running away like a simpering coward. His eyes narrowed themselves lightly though, trying to make himself appear to have more courage still. He had the feeling that he would pay for this, but it was better than to go bankrupt.
He would have to be dead, then he wouldn't care anymore about money. But until then he would. He looked at her, trying to see how she would react to it. He would fight for the minimum of fifteen coins "It's the lowest I would go." He added under his breath, trying to stop the twitching that his limbs wanted to do more noticeable. He swallowed and squared his shoulders somewhat, then calmed abruptly. He wasn't doing anything illegal and he was just dealing with a slightly difficult customer. He wouldn't have any more trouble with this, right? Right.

The Tulgey Feline blinked, still smiling smugly. She felt a flicker of satisfaction, for not only had she talked him down to a reasonable price, but she had coaxed out what small amount of courage the Mouse seemed to have. Such a funny thing, this Mouse...so weak-looking. "Fifteen?" she purred, eyes intent on him and tail lashing. Just how far was he willing to go for it? There was a temptation to see...to push and push until something broke.
But then, she might not get her knife. And she didn't want to risk that. "I believe that is an acceptable price," she finally said, as if she was reluctant. Another moment and the required number of coins was counted out, carefully, slowly, deliberately, and placed in front of the Mouse. "Be careful," she said softly, bringing the knife towards herself with one claw, hiding it under her paw and turning to grin in feral pleasure at the Mouse. "The love of money is the road to destruction. Some day you might meet another who is not as generous as I." Nellwyn's eyes flashed for a moment as she contemplated using her new knife on the Mouse...just to test it out. She purred at the thought.

He nodded his head, the movement in his throat betraying that he swallowed with great difficulty. Amarth's mind told him to run, yet he feared for his life if he actually did so, but he also wouldn't back down on this, he wouldn't ruin himself that easily. His entire mind contradicted himself and it would have annoyed the rat if he hadn't been in this kind of situation. The rat didn't favor to see himself as a prey, or letting himself be seen as a prey but here he was underneath the cat's gaze. The Selkie rat kept himself seated, more frozen into the spot than anything else. His eyes stared more at her tail than anything else, not wanting to meet her eyes straight on.
Amarth bowed his head briefly, glad that the price was accepted and not rejected. He wanted to get away as quick as he could, discreetly placing the weapons on the ground in his backpack again. His clawed hand extended and took one of the coins from the ground when she counted them out, accepting it. Greed flashed in his eyes as he watched it, he could stand scariness as long he got paid for his wares. He then put the coins somewhere and bowed his head "I know miss." He was quite surprised that his voice remained this steady already once more "That's why I know when to run." A daring grin, then he left. His form quickly disappearing into shadows.
He wouldn't give her the satisfaction to use the knife on him. He knew that this was one of those times that he'd better run than stay and make some chitchat.
