Another bit of writing. Some peeps and I had a Word War. This is the raw result. 20 minutes of writing, no proofreading. Just thought I'd share.
Heilyn gently touched the edge of her glass. The candle light a amber glow through the single malt whiskey. She took a sip. At this point she’d had enough that the strong liquid tasted almost like water. Scented candles, warm bath, excellent drink.
And yet she couldn’t wait for it to be over.
Seth was gone. He’d been for years now. If there was an afterlife, she hoped it was treating him well. God knows the both of them had their share of sins.
She sighed. Here she was, reaching the verge of death herself and now she questions her long, unshaken beliefs? Each day further into her 60’s yielded greater risk of her heart giving in to the condition that plagued most of her predecessors.
Everything ended. She knew this. It didn’t make her any less comfortable with it. Her children were grown, there were plenty of qualified candidates to take over the responsibilities of her title... That’s all that mattered, really.
She imagined what the afterlife would be like. The image of Seth waiting on a beach for her, sipping mai tais was so vivid. She laughed in spite of herself, wondering if that would be the vision to await her.

Very touching little piece. There's such a sadness to it, but it maintains a wistful sort of warmth and a sense of peace as well. I'm very glad you decided to share. <3

Aw, Heilyn needs a hug! That's very sweet, and it sounds like she's about ready to move on to see what the next life will bring...
