The sky seemed to cloud over with an incredibly cold and awful smelling fog in a manner of seconds. A funnel seemed to descend from the sky and whirled the poor, Josiggy Leveret high and away into the clouds; dropping him at the feet of the mighty Jack Anubis. The entirety of Anubis’s Warren has been hit by a massive earthquake that appears to be anything but natural. Odd, smoky figures, like strange and malevolent Cards, have been stalking through the remains of the Warren at random and appear to be following and latching onto the Does for small periods of time, causing them to suffer extreme fatigue and muscle spasms. There is no way to combat these strange creatures and they are monstrous in appearance, even though they cause no actual flesh wounds. Though frightening, a Jack and his Leverets have to protect the Does...
(Your goal is to figure out what it is you can do with what you have, to drive away the creatures. These creatures will be weak to one of Anubis’s Jack abilities and the razor on his new Leveret’s tail, among various other items you may wish to use. Write to assume you are either winning or losing, your choice, at your own pace. As you play at it and decide the outcome, the Admin will drop in with hints, bouts of bad luck, and your next goal. Currently, defeating these things and getting away from the Warren are your best bet.)

It was like some horrible nightmare, only, as far as Anubis could tell it was actually happening. Screams rang out across the Warren as his Does were assaulted by the strange shadow creatures. The Jack was worked up nearly to a froth as he attempted to scare the creatures off when a tornado touched down beside him and drew his attention for a minute. He expected some new horror, instead, a small leveret sat where the tornado had been. It's tail some disgusting mutation, curving it into a blade. He sneered and stalked quickly towards the new arrival. "WHO ARE YOU!?" He nearly reached out to grab the small wretch in his anger, but instead shook his head. This wasn't the major problem, it was just something that was easier to focus on than the strange shadow beings disrupting his home. Anubis shook his head forcefully "Nevermind. You!" He pointed in Maeve's direction. "Help my Warren however you can and I will find a way to reward you. We need to. . . get everyone out of here"He looked sadly for a moment at his warren before stiffening again. Sometimes running was the only option.

Maeve had been feeling particularly despondent as of late; the one individual she might have stretched to call a friend was departed, her fellow leverets distrusted her strange tail and avoided all but the minimal amount of communication necessary to complete their duties, and she had no particular duty of even semi-importance with which to draw some small measure of joy, or even purpose. Life, as ever, was not particularly worth living, but she was terrified of the alternative. Maeve had been outside, sneaking a quiet moment for herself--she already did more than her fair share of work, but if the others were to catch her taking a break there would be a price to pay--when the wind began to pick up, and a fog rolled in. She wrinkled her nose at the smell and shivered, glancing at the sky. A storm? Her recollection of what happened next was vague at best; the wind picked up much faster then she could have anticipated, and the next thing she knew it was snatching her up and away. Her limbs flailed helplessly in the vortex to no avail, and she thought she might have fainted from shear terror of seeing the ground so rapidly recede, for the next thing she knew she was being deposited rather forcibly back onto earth as if it had never happened. But this was not her warren, and even as she was shakily regaining her legs there was a strange Jack striding towards her with an expression that made her quiver with fright anew. Help? Maeve glanced around, noticing the destruction with numb curiosity. What had happened? Where was she, more importantly? And how had she gotten here? She wanted to run, hide, collect her scattered nerves and thoughts, but she was afraid what the Jack would do if he caught her, and so she stumbled into the smoking rubble without much of a plan. Help how?

((here's my second try. Spidey is smart and closed the window before posting!!))
Anubis glared down at the leveret, willing it to do as he said. He could see it's ears droop, and the look of fear upon it's face, but eventually the small thing turned towards his Warren and disappeared into the chaos.
He knew he had focused on the leveret a little too much, but in this situation it was the one thing he could control. A sudden scream caught his attention mid-thought and he whipped around to see where it had come from. One of the shadow-beasts was hovering above Ayanna. Without thought Anubis lunged forwards, a strangled angry scream escaping from his lips.
He threw out his hand, throwing out his binding Jack's ability with it, though how it would work on a shadow-creature was beyond him. The Jack didn't care anymore though, he had to save his Does however he was able. He was nearly across the distance now, and he lunged forward trying to wrench the creature from his daughter.
Jack's Ability: Once a day he can cause an opponents clothing or decorations to become intense bindings as they would were the other Rabbit a Torquehelm (if they are already of that realm their bindings will worsen). Ties will become thick chains, clothing will pull limbs tightly to the side or squeeze the muscle painfully within its confinement, jewelry will dig into flesh and pull the skin taut, making it very difficult for those not of the realm to identify with and fight with easily. This spell will wear off after one hour and is not permanent.

Maeve did not have much worldly experience, but she had snuck away to the library whenever possible and the destruction around her was similar to the earthquakes she had read about—instances where the earth shook and heaved and rumbled and sometimes even cleaved itself open with a tremendous, unexplainable force. The air was thick was dust and screams, and the ground littered with debris from what once must have been an affluent warran; there was not much left standing now, and what once must have been the center of the complex had slid into the cavernous sinkhole that had opened up there. If it weren’t for the rent moans and choked screams, Maeve could never have fathomed anyone surviving the catastrophe.
She picked her way carefully further into the ruins, following a particularly pitiful noise with the tentative intention of intercepting it. It was hard forcing herself forward; she was still shaken from her inexplicable relocation, not to mention the state of the place where she so strangely found herself; the ground was traitorous, littered with debris and broken earth, and walls were wont to crumble without warning. Her nerves were completely frazzled.
Maeve followed a length of wall that was still standing, and peeked cautiously around a corner. Several leverets, huddled in a corner; one of the them was apparently responsible for the racket she had heard. It seemed to be hysterics more than the result of an injury, though.
“Hey,” she called, feeling exasperated and frustrated at them and life in general, “What are you doing? If you’re not hurt, there are others who are. Fan out, round them up. Well? Hop to it!” Maeve had never been so forceful in her life; it felt…good.

((Anubis's Torque attacks seems repeatable more than usual, constant and amazingly accurate on the creatures. The tail of the Leveret is perfect for finishing them off... With exception to three large brutes that tower at ten feet high. They seem more substantial that the others and stink horribly of rot...upon closer inspection, there appear to be chunks of people floating around inside of the things! Use all of your ingenuity to attempt to fight them and get the Warren to safety!))

Surprisingly his attack worked, and Anubis pushed the phantom creature off of his daughter. With renewed surety he checked Aya over to make sure she was okay before moving back into the Warren. Perhaps if it worked, he would have a chance at making sure everyone got out safely.
Two more creatures fell bound to the floor as he made his way into the crumbled hallways. A brief flash of sadness, then fury, raced through him. It had taken him so long to build his Warren up to exactly what he had wanted, and now it was all gone. He came upon the little flock of Leverets, with the newcomer clearly in charge.
Perhaps it had been a good thing that the odd thing had fallen at his feet. At least it seemed as if it was useful, and had a modicum of brains.
"Come with me, you seem. . .useful." His eyes drifted to Maeve's tail. "We need to find my does"

Maeve was of the opinion that, on the whole, she was holding it together rather spectacularly; she hadn’t suffered a fit of hysterics, hyperventilated, or fainted (or all of the above), and the same could not be said for some of her fellows. She was, however, feeling remarkably irate with the idiocy and inefficiency going on around her, and for the first time in her pitiful existence she was doing something about it.
The group of survivors fell into three categories--useful, somewhat worthless but redeemable, and dead-weight--and unfortunately, there was not a whole lot of bodies that fell into the useful category, and not many more that could be considered redeemable. Granted, they’d just suffered a catastrophic earthquake, had their home crumble around their ears, and there were mutters of something sinister stalking through the ruins, though Maeve had yet to see anything herself; still, she would have thought they would be more invested towards evacuation. She endeavored to motivate them in this general direction.
The Useful organized search parties of Redeemables to comb the ruins and see if survivors could be found and, if need be, rescued, while more of the Redeemable focused on getting the Dead-weight out of the danger zone. When everything was operating on a level she found acceptable, Maeve herself joined the search.
She hadn’t gotten very far when she ran into the Jack, again. The does, of course. It was no more than could be expected from a male of the species, but lowly leverets always hoped their value would at some point be acknowledged. However worthless Does might be beyond the bedroom--vital role that it might be; better them than she, after all--how did he expect to rebuild his beloved warran if his grunt labor was all buried under the ruble?
As she planned to survive all this, though, she didn’t voice her opinion; she simply nodded, and followed. The others could carry on the search without her.

He nodded swiftly as the leveret grasped what he was saying and fell into line. Fortuitous indeed that this small creature had fallen at his feet. It seemed to be about the only useful thing right now. However, he was comforted by the fact that at least Ayanna was safely out of harms way, as long as she stayed out of sight outside the Warren.
The Jack led the way through more rubble towards the center of the Warren which seemed to have collapsed during the Earthquake. He said a quick prayer under his breath that Yasmin and Fina had not been beneath that roof when it pitched to the ground.
Distracted by his thoughts, he hardly noticed the scene ahead of him in time. Yasmin came around a corner and another of the shadow beasts descended upon her. "NO!" he yelled, running forwards.

Maeve froze in horror. Smoky, insubstantial, like a shadow that had suddenly decided to be independent of whatever might have once cast it. It was unnatural, and terrifying, and what was it doing to the doe? The doe screamed in fright as it descended, hovering over her like a nightmare given shape and terrible purpose. Maeve felt dizzy with fright as she watched the doe convulse.
And then the Jack was rushing forward, and Maeve was surprised to find herself pitching forward as well. The screaming jhad to stop; they had to get it off her. But how did a person fight shadow and smoke?
Terrified, determined; Maeve did something she thought she would never do, and swung her tail. It wasn't even particularly sharp, and she didn't suspect it to work. Shadow, and smoke. But it did.
A slight resistance--more like the slight sensation of smoke against the fur--and the blade passed straight through. The apparition gave a shriek of its own, and dissipated into the nether.
Maeve stared.
