He rolled his eyes at his friend's comment about leading, knowing full and well that the tiger was far more likely to get them miserably lost then he was ... his parents would have eaten him alive if he had no sense when it came to directions what with their work in The Resistance and all before their retirement. He just passed the other marsh lander by with a swat of his little tail as he trotted into the cafe cheerfully, giving a nod of greeting to someone that looked ... familiar, but he wasn't sure why they did. Oh well.
I take it that that means your last job didn't pay so well?
His tone was teasing and he wore a grin on his face as he eyed the diamond over his shoulder as he continued on to a table near one of the windows, he did so enjoy having a view while he ate. He hopped up onto a chair and settled himself into it on his rump, 'sitting up' as he did. His friend would know he hated having four legs quite a bit and practiced for his bipedal often.
Fine, fine .... it's on me you big kitten.

Lachlan watched the Chipmunk pass over the Cafe's threshold and thought about how easy it would be to knock the little fuzzball onto his back. They'd dismembered their fair share of rooms during their rambunctious episodes. Still, this wasn't one of their room and there just happened to be innocent bystanders that more than likely wouldn't appreciate a street brawl while they sipped their Mocha Lattes.
Lachlan let the door shut behind him, the little bell on the door jingling as it was hit. "It paid alright. It wasn't one of the best jobs, but it was just about average. It's been nearly two weeks though and I still haven't got a line on another assignment. I'm just being responsible and watching where all my money goes."
The Tiger followed Jarvis to their table and snarled when he saw how little the chairs were. If he wasn't careful, this could be very uncomfortable. Pushing the chair outward, Lachlan grabbed hold of his tail before sitting down and placed both gigantic paws on the table top as he pulled it closer to him. The table screeched in response, but there was no way he could move his chair with him in it in his animal form. He hated being so limited and looked forward to the day he received his Bi-Ped form as well.
"It's about time you paid for something!" Lachlan said, grinning from ear to ear. "Since this meal's on you, maybe I should order everything on the menu! What would you suggest I start with first?"

See that's why I like my steady job ... no worries unless something goes terribly wrong.
He'd been hired on after the murder of The Queen of Hearts so he hadn't personally experienced any of these mishaps, not even an escaped prisoner really ... it could be boring some days but it was still rewarding none the less, working directly for your suit. It also helped that the new The Queen was a marsh-lander as well although he still hadn't the foggiest idea that it was the horse he'd met while doing his training sessions deep in the marsh.
Have you ever thought about inquiring at the diamond court? I'm sure they could use a brick wall such as yourself.
He twitched his tail and picked up a menu with his paws, pleased with the fact that his little rodent feet were more like fingers then his friend's feline toes could ever be. He took a moment to look it over before grinning once more ... well that sounded good and straight to the point.
How about a double espresso and maybe something sweet to chase it down with?

"I'd love a steady job, only my field isn't known for permanent jobs. Muscle for hire doesn't exactly go for long term employment. I've considered entering the Military for the Court of Diamonds, but I've been told I need a higher rank for that and more experience."
They'd told him they needed someone with more experience than him, though he'd already had years of it. He'd started fighting and protecting ever since he was a big kid; bigger than his friends and all the bullies. Lachlan had never really made a conscious decision to get into being a bodyguard, but time had just progressed that way. The Court of Diamonds had been hopeful about his future but they'd made it clear it was just that; his future and not now.
"If you hear of a permanent job for the likes of me, let me know about it. And nothing for shit pay, please? I do have bills to pay." Lachlan couldn't help but grinning. "I'm a brick.......house."
Lachlan tried to pick up the menu, a few times. He was finally able to get it standing by itself. There was no way he was going to be able to hold it himself. Curse it! It would be awhile yet until he would be able to earn his Bi-Pedal form, and if he was honest with himself he was a little bit jealous at how easy this human-like movement was for Jarvis. He was happy for him, true, but still jealous.
"Double espresso? Ugh, no thanks. I like my stomach without an ulcer, thank you. Just a regular coffee for me. Sugar and creame on the side. I'm all up for something sweet though. Anything good here?

I'll keep my ears open when I go to the Capitol next ... that's about the only place I'd hear anything for a diamond.
He flipped the menu over and peered at the pastry list, which didn't help at all really ... there were just so many things that sounded delicious that he just couldn't make up his mind. Thus he flopped the menu down and leaned forward, pushing it toward his friend and then pointed at the list with a claw.
I've never had a pastry here before, but I'll let your sweet tooth decide for the both of us!
He grinned, letting his fangs show ever so slightly once more, giving him a rather mischievous look as he did.
Aw come on ... it won't give you ulcer's ... it'll just put a bit more pep in your step and, just maybe, wake up your sense of humor and drag it back from the realms of utterly and completely corny.

"Much appreciated good sir! Though I doubt it will help. I'm sure you'll hear the same shit I did."
As Lachlan watched Jarvis point to the menu with a claw, that gave the Tiger an idea. It could end very badly for the menu, but it was worth a shot. Unsheathing his mutated claws he extended them just long enough past his paw he would be able to poke at objects without his fur getting in the way. He speared the corner of the menu on his claw and lifted. Much to his satisfaction, the now holy object lifted with his paw. Unsheathing the rest of his claws to the same length, he pinched one of the papers between two of them. Pseudo-fingers! Well, this was better than nothing, even if he did leave holes behind.
"I have a sense of humor, thank you very much. It's just not appreciated by the lower class scum of the world, like you," he said teasingly, taking another look at the menu. "Mmmm, those bear claws are looking mighty tasty. How does that sound to you?"

He knew that look ... that overgrown kitten was going to do something foolish, wasn't he? He arched a brow as he watch the feline unsheathe a single claw and ... spear the menu. Oh the owners probably wouldn't be to happy about that ... then again they weren't all that fancy to begin with. He shook his head slowly as the tiger used his claws in the same manner as fingers. Granted it was smart but still ... it wasn't exactly the best thing to do in a public place.
Good to see you've still got the same respect for other's property as you always have.
His little tail wiggled some more even though it was hidden ... the tiger would probably be able to guess that it was being wiggly again, it always was when he said things like that.
Bear Claws eh? Sounds good enough for me. You know the weird things mom makes me when I'm home ... I swear during her service in the Resistance she had some screws knocked loose ... then again ... look at my sister.
Maybe it was just squirrels that were ... nutty? Ha ... he could make corny jokes to, he just didn't voice them that often.

Lachlan looked past the menu and maturely stuck his tongue out at his friend. It wasn't his fault if this establishment hadn't planned for Cards in animal form who wanted to browse through the menu. He'd been to a few places that had automated menus on the walls. All you had to do was push a button and the pages were turned for you. Being the genius that he was, Lachlan had just come up with a solution to the problem on his own. The customer is always right....right?
Lachlan put down the menu and grinned at Jarvis, all too familiar with odd family members. "Yeah, I remember one of the times I stayed for dinner. I still don't know or want to know what some of that stuff was I ate. I think she actually gave me food poisoning once!"
The Tiger watched his wiggly friend and smiled. It was sure nice to be around a familiar face again. As soon as one came into view, Lachlan flagged down a server and placed in their order. "Two bear claws, one coffee with sugar and creme on the side, and a Double Espresso. Right?" he asked in confirmation.

Half the time it's best not question it because you really don't want to know ... the other half you shouldn't or she'll go off on her spiel about survival in the wilderness and the awful things you sometimes have to eat there ...
He rolled his eyes at the thought, his mother really was an oddity with a nice little candy coating of stress, which made the mane of grey hair she had all the more understandable. His family was strange, but he loved them and all their eccentricities none the less.
Yeah, sounds good to me.
He leaned against the back of the chair and peered out the window for a moment at the scenery before peering back over to his friend, his expression a little more serious then usual.
You know ... you should tell me where you're staying in the Capitol so we can get together more often ... you don't visit here much anymore.
He hadn't managed to make any real friends outside of the marsh yet, he was close to a person or to but he was leery about giving them such a title quite yet. And, well ... Lachlan was his best friend and, well ... he missed seeing the tiger on a regular basis.

Lachlan nodded at the Server to confirm their order and turned back to his friend after they'd left. "It's the same with my Mum, only you just better agree with her on everything. Honestly, it doesn't matter what you say. She's probably not listening to you. Just talking to hear the sound of her own voice." Thankfully he hadn't inherited his Mother's addiction to drama. That woman was the nosiest Card he knew of. If you ever wanted to know anything going on in the Marsh, you could be sure to ask his mother.
Lachlan grinned. "I've gotten my own apartment, my man! Though it doesn't seem it right now, the muscle for hire biz pays pretty damn well. It's not the grandest place, but it's clean and roomy. I've even furnished all if it." He'd been very proud when he finally moved out on his own. He loved being Independent and discovered he was actually good with money. Of course, he'd had to learn the hard way a couple of times.
"My apartment is on the corner of Briar and Rose. You're more than welcome to stop by any time! I don't really have any friends in the Capital and it'd be nice to see a familiar face. Are you staying in the Courts, or in the Capital?"
