Zether had discovered long ago that being able to float made for one very, very stealthy individual. He could skulk along corridors, down stair cases and even through windows and no one had any idea he was there... unless he crashed into something, of course. Whomever decorated the halls liked to place vases just around corners, probably to keep people like him from doing exactly what he was doing. If only creeping wasn't quite so much fun.. He'd been about to leave the corridor when the sounds of children playing reached his ears. Instead, he crouched behind one of those obnoxious vases and peered around it to see which kids they were, and if he wanted to stop and join them or not. Cady barreled around the corner, shrieking at the top of her lungs. "YOU CAN'T CATCH ME BECAUSE I'M THE GINGER... ... SOMETHING!" She shouted over her corner, giggling the entire way. Her lithe body meant she could run faster than her brothers most of the time, but Riordan usually managed to catch her.. but only if he activated his Spades speed. He hadn't quite caught up to his paws yet. "Cadyyyy!" Riordan whined from a ways back, "Come on!" He paused for a moment to look at his brother, making faces at their sister. Stupid girls. Why did they have to be so stupid? In fact, why did he even have to have a sister in the first place? Brothers were so much cooler. "Mebbe if we hide she'll never find us.." He said in an overly-loud conspiratorial whisper to Kelsier.

For his part, Kelsier didn't say a whole lot. While his sister was just a bundle of noise and fun, and Riordan returned some of that same noise, the other hybrid tried to avoid being noticed. It was a habit that came in handy when he was stuck with his father in the Court of Hearts, and it certainly took some of the heat off of him even in the home where he felt more comfortable. He walked beside his bipedal brother at an easy pace, keeping up without rushing. Running was well and fine, but he hadn't quite decided if he actually wanted to catch Cadence. If he did, then she would just want him to run from her, and then they'd never stop running. When Riordan turned to whisper loudly, one of Kel's ears twitched, and he turned his piercing eyes to his brother. " Probably not," the boy agreed, his head bobbing on its long neck. Then, he paused, licking his lips nervously. Kel didn't really like to speak very much. Sometimes, people laughed at his hissing speech, and then.. He just felt awkward. He shuffled his paws. Hopefully, Riordan wouldn't mind if he spoiled some of the fun. " ...But I bet mom would. Mom would be unhappy, then." As always, the boy tried to avoid saying anything that would make him sound too silly. Then, a moment later, he started forward again, placing one awkward paw in front of the other. They were still far too big for him to walk comfortably on. " Wait up, Cady!"

Cadence giggled loudly, the sound echoing and bouncing off the aged walls. The sound of her claws scraping bounced back to the boys, a sure indicator that she had no intention of stopping or slowing down. She ran until she hit a corridor that didn't continue - a dead end - and came to an abrupt stop, gasping for air. She quickly became dizzy, and sat down on the cool tile to regain her bearings. Figures began floating around the edge of her vision, and she clamped her eyes shut and scratched at her eyelids in a desperate attempt to pretend they weren't there.
Riordan gave his brother an odd look. Mother would be unhappy? Mother was going to be unhappy when she found out that Cady had been running around.. Cady tended to hallucinate more when she got overexcited. He was already anticipating finding their sister talking to a wall, claiming she was talking to "her monsters" again, or something else equally ridiculous. He stayed quiet for another moment until Kelsier began speeding up, then frowned and tried to do the same. He felt so awkward all the time. He could stand upright just fine.... as long as he didn't try to walk, as his front paws would immediately send him tumbling back to all fours. That was just as bad, though, as his body wasn't meant to operate like that. The end result was that he loped along like a hunchback and pretended he wasn't strange. "Cady?" He called into the sudden silence, his frown deepening. "Cady, where did you go?"
Zether peaked around the vase, his interest mildly piqued, not from the conversation, but from the looks the two boys were exchanging. They both looked frustrated and worried in different combinations, and he could only assume that there must be something fascinating about this Cady child. It wasn't as if he had anyone better to stalk, afterall - his family tended to get annoyed with that after a while. He floated along after the boys, skulking in the shadows behind them.

Sometimes, it was hard for Kel to remember that Cady really shouldn't - couldn't - be breathing hard like she probably would be as soon as they stopped running. His own mask worked just fine almost all of the time, and when he took it off - which he only did when mom was gone or distracted - he generally found that breathing normal air was kinda fun. But things were different for his sweet sister, and he needed to try his damnedest to remember that. The silence struck him as a bad sign, and he shot Riordan a rather nervous glance. He made a quiet noise, somewhere in his throat, high and whiny.
"Cady? Are you ok?" Kel called out as well, clearing his throat and raising his head high on his awkwardly long neck, staring down the hallway. "Do you think we sshould s-ssp.. break off to look for her?" He asked, trying to keep the nerves out of his voice. Crap, mom was going to be pissed no matter what they did, at this point, and Kelsier was almost afraid to see his sister at this point. "We could go back to mom and pretend we knew nothing." Worth a shot, right? "Then sshe can't get mad that we were running."

Cadence immediately began her breathing exercises. Deep breath in, count for five, deep breath out. Repeat. She kept her eyes shut tightly and did her best to ignore Xe's horrible whispering. Somebody's going to die... "Stop!" She whimpered. Deep breath in. She snapped her focus in and was relieved when the voice stopped and her breathing cleared up. Tentatively she opened her eyes and was content to see nothing but wall and shadows, hear nothing but the occasional call from her brothers. They would find her, and it would be okay.
Riordan gave Kelsier another look. "If we break up, how will we know if the other found her?" He asked impatiently, swinging his head around as they passed a hallway to see if Cady's bright mane was visible anywhere. He stopped in his tracks at Kel's second words, his eyes rolling to the ceiling as he groaned over the consequences. "Pretend we know nothing? She'll just get depressed that Cady's doing it again, rather than angry at us for not stopping it. Personally, I think that's worse." He continued on, but at a much slower rate. "Besides," he continued quietly, "We'll find her, and it will be fine."
Zether resisted the urge to float above the boys and hear their conversation more closely. 'Doing it again?' What, exactly, did this child do? Murder people? Pillage? Rape? Oh my my, but this was far more exciting than history lessons. And Father thought he should be in school for five more years, when there were perfectly interesting criminals right under his nose? He slunk against the wall a few short feet behind the boys, trying not to make any clatter in his excitement.

There was that look again. Kelsier knew that look, and he shrank away from it - though something in him felt a pang of defiance at it. Not that he was going to act on those feelings, of course. Just having them was enough.
Besides, when it came down to it, Riordan did have a good idea of it. Losing track of each other wasn't going to do a thing to make the rest of their hunt any easier, and then if they did go back to Mom, she would only be even more pissed off. The Caracal mix's ears twitched, and he let out a quiet sigh that was mostly muffled by his mask. "Cady can't help it," he said softly, craning his long neck to better look around a corner. "Mom needss to juss'... Get over it."
They were children, after all. They needed to play! To run! To have fun! To -- What was that sound?
Kelsier's head rose, ears pointed tall with alarm. At least they were useful for something. "I heard ssomething." It was probably his sister, and he glanced around again quickly. Focusing in on the sound, the boy started off at a healthy trot - unknowingly, right in the direction of his half-nephew.
