The feline made her way down one of the streets of the capitol, tufted ears pulled back to rest against her skull. It wasn't bad enough that her family, home and business were gone, or that she still had a limp from the razor, but people had to stare. Her fur bristled a little as she continued on, that job interview had gone alright.... not that she really wanted it. It was going to be strange adjusting to a normal, non-pampered sort of lifestyle where she actually had to work instead of just passing out fliers and sifting through paperwork. Truth be told she had a fair amount of money, being the sole heir of her parents funds and all.... but she had enough sense to want to keep it just in case. Mr. Todd was being kind enough to let her and Emery stick around a bit to get themselves on their feet, and help out of course, but she wasn't sure how long that would last .... especially with the Lowlanders hanging around as well. She ducked around a corner and sighed, her ears coming up a little as she relaxed a bit.

And around that corner trudged Orin, perhaps a little too hastily for either of their good.
"Oh!" He balked, nearly spilling the contents of a pack that he carried on his back; a large load of broken items and timber that no doubt was being taken to the dump down a nearby alleyway. He'd looked about ready to cuss out who'd cut in front of him when he realized who it was.
"Oh uh.. you! I mean. Hadn't expected you to still be in town, I guess." He finished off the comment quite lamely, ears pinning against his ears as he realized he was at a loss at what to say. He wasn't good around women, and even with diamond charm he never felt confident in his dealings with them. Especially this one, even before she'd become some insanely rare creature. Now he almost wasn't sure how to deal with her. Should he even be able to talk to her? Was she somehow now above him in such away that he wasn't worthy of her presence? Bah. Who knew, right? Hopefully his fumbling more so reflected his usual thoughtless and boorish attitude.

At the sudden, unexpected noise she hopped back and poofed out her fur. When she picked up her head to eye who had scared her there was a hint that she was about ready to say some choice words herself. However, that fire faded when it registered who exactly it was that had been lurking around the corner and her expression even brightened a bit.
I thought the very same of you too actually.
She made it a point to neglect the fact that she didn't exactly have anywhere else to go. Well, there were those who had dealings with her parents in the Yarrow that would probably let her stay but.... she really had no interest in staying there.
Her gaze shifted up to the load he was carrying and she got to her paws and turned in the direction he had been moving... it looked heavy so she had no issue in walking and talking. He definitely wasn't escaping just yet.
It's good to see a familiar face out here. Things are so.... weird now, for lack of a better word.

"Eh. Figure my aunt's put up with me long enough. Now's as good a time as any to cut the apron strings." His burdened shoulders gave a shrug as he resumed his path to the dumpsters. She seemed willing to pursue some sort of conversation beyond just a 'how do you do'. That seemed to be a good enough sign, and certainly a sign that he should perhaps resume speaking. Yeah.. sure. He could do that. "Yeah. I guess that's normal after seeing a whole shit load of death and destruction. Makes things weird. Don't think things are gonna be the same any more."
He hefted the trash into the dumpster, shaking off roughly in a quadrupedal equivalent of brushing his hands off. "Eh. Also makes for rather pathetic cynics. Heh. Anyway, how have you been holdin' out? Still got work at that barber's place?"
Orin himself hadn't been around there for the past few weeks. He'd helped around where he could, but it was obvious that the bull didn't exactly love being around the Lowlanders. Uncomfortable might have been a good word for it, but never outwardly hostile.

She would have been rather amused with the fact that he'd still been living at home until recently, not that she hadn't but hey.... that she could categorize as an apprenticeship really, if the sting of losing every relative she'd had in a short time period was still fresh. She twitched an ear and some of her whiskers but maintained a fairly cheerful expression.
That wasn't the exact weird she meant, but he did have a valid point. Things had changed drastically for a lot of people. Still, it wouldn't be so hard if people didn't give her those looks, or say certain things. Another twitch, this time in her little bob tail.
Still waiting on some word from the Lakes.
She couldn't keep her tone from dropping at that statement, but at least he offered her something else to put her mental energy into.
For now, yes. Although I'm not sure how much longer Mr. Todd is going to put up with everyone. I think he's taking it harder then he likes to let on..
Still topics with depressing undertones, conversation derailment was imminent.
So, do you have a break coming up soon or are they going to have you work your little tail off all afternoon?.
Lunch with a friend sounded good, then they could get all the catching up done quick and perhaps have a nice chat afterword.

Orin gave a loud cough to clear his throat at the mention of the Lakes, turning his head to cough into his shoulder in some semblance of politeness. He was not optimistic about the Lakes, considering the way many Selkies about the Capitol were dropping like files. There was still the itching worry that he'd never admit to that the pretty Selkie cat would succumb, or even that idiot birdcreature that he couldn't help but be amused by with his fanciful antics. Now Karrock… that boy was on the verge of panic. Last he'd saw him, the boy had covered his selkie swirls with a heavy powder, as if he could somehow fool the strange sickness that seemed to be going around. He kept that to himself, though.
"Ah… uh, yeah. The ol' man isn't even here. I suppose I can take a break whenever I want. With all the crazy going on, he wants to sit pretty in his beach house on the Midori while I do the work. FIne with me though; work better when I ain't got someone breathin down my neck."
Wait.. that could be misconstrued. "Not that you're breathing down my neck or anything… ah..Yeah. I can take a breather. "
