Who would have thought a long tail would be a blessing? For all that she looked a bit weird with the spiraled horn coming from her forehead, the tail for some reason made her seem more cardlike. This made her interactions with them more tolerable. And interaction was something she was having to quickly learn. Aleah was currently living in a rudimentary hole in the ground with only two rooms; one for himself and his Doe, and another smaller room for herself. Sleeping on blankets stolen from the abandoned warren and highland grass as mattresses it was surprisingly… comfortable? It was new. That's what it was. Every day, Aleah would refine the walls of their new home, working on a new hole that would eventually be a rear entrance as he dug out new hallways and rooms that would eventually connect to what were currently the living areas. That way, he wouldn't have to track dirt on the few possessions they had. Layla had never felt more useful. She -smelled- better, and Aleah was appreciative of her in his own aloof way. And had given her.. a compliment. Complimented her on her innovation in how she combined the natural berries and legumes that was in season into simple yet presentable meals. She was on cloud nine the rest of the day. And now.. now she was in the Capital, swathed in a cloak that she stole from a card's clothesline with the few silver they had been able to find to get some much needed supplies. Medicines, and seeds. The growing season was upon them, and Aleah had not yet come to his father with news of his change. From what she had overheard… he was hesitant. He felt a need to be ready to face him. Ready for what, she wondered. She passed over the silver to the merchant, who gave her a large bundle of seeds for what would be a garden that would help feed the warren, along with her change. The man had given her a strange look as his huge biped hand reached out to hand her the things, but she was turned around and walking away before he could stare too long. The hustle and bustle in the marketplace kept him from focusing on her for too long as another customer took her place… just as Aleah had said would happen.

Mythiril was...happy, she supposed. Or, rather, she -should- be happy. She had more freedom under her current 'Jack' than she could have under any others, and she had three meals a day, a very soft place to sleep, and a lot of books to read. She could even wander the halls as long as it was at night and as long as she was careful, so it wasn't as if she had to be cooped up in His Majesty's room at all times. She had less work to do, and less pressure if she messed up the work she insisted on doing anyway, cleaning her 'Jack's rooms and serving him meals. However...she was lonely, the Leveret was surprised to notice. It felt like it had been ages since she'd seen another Rabbit. It had even been a while since Sabe had spoken to her about her old life, barring that time he had come home with dozens of new cuts and bruises that she took the care to tend to as they healed. Then, he'd told her he'd seen others. Cautioned her against ever being seen herself (again). She spoke with him about it, only as much as he wished, and then left for her own thoughts. They'd been getting darker lately. The dreams were a heavy weight on her mind, and she wished, above all, for someone to speak to about them. Someone who would understand her. His Majesty Sabe still didn't understand much of anything about her place in the world, about her ritualistic bleeding out of her shame, about why she feared being alone as much as she'd used to crave it. When it was all too much, she'd slip out into the Capital, and lose herself amongst the Cards, hidden safely under her little cloak with the Club pin. At least here, the voice couldn't whisper to her. Myth managed a small smile as she walked through what must have been the market, savoring the smells in the air...and then she caught a glimpse of another figure under a heavy cloak. She looked over, curious, wondering if... But no. Whatever it was had a long, decidedly non-Rabbit like tail. Surprisingly disheartened, Myth turned, cloak billowing for just an instant to reveal her small fluff of a tail to the stranger.

It was a familiar scent more than anything that caught her; so cardlike that she almost missed it entirely. Cards never seemed to pick up on it, funnily enough. But… Layla knew. That was the smell of a rabbit, no matter how faint a scent.
She quickly turned, just in time to see that flash of tail, and the back heel of a long rabbity foot. Oh yes… that wasn't a card at all.
But they were already getting lost in the crowd. Who was that? Were they from an old warren? Did she know them? Stashing her seeds in a satchel, she did her best to keep up with the strange leveret. For some reason, Layla was curious, but mostly because of that scent. The rabbit didn't smell of soil at all, or other smells that she'd associate with a warren. Strange. She needed to investigate.

Mythiril paced idly down the street, feeling more disheartened than she would have cared to admit. As much as part of her had wanted (or thought she had wanted) a new sort of life to prove herself in, away from Warrens and Jacks and fussy Does...she missed it. She longed for that security, now, for that anonymity. Was it freedom to be hidden away in some Card tower, locked up during the day, with a Jack who wasn't even a Rabbit at all?
No, she finally admitted to herself. No, it wasn't. Myth dreamed, now, in those times where she allowed herself secret hopes, of being back in her proper place again. She wished another Rabbit would find her. The Leveret paused, feeling the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Was someone following her? She shot a cautious glance over her shoulder, but couldn't tell in the crowd. Well, time to test it out. Myth moved to go down a side street, a little less busy than the main one. Would her mysterious stalker be behind her?

Where… was she going? Normally Layla would have relished the opportunity to confront and talk to a leveret, but something compelled her to maintain her cover. She paused outside the side street, ears poised to listen to if the girl continued walking or stopped. The footfalls stopped, and Layla held her breath. The leveret must have suspected she was following her.. how exciting! A card passed by, giving her a strange look that immediately compelled her to 'act natural'. Wait, what did Cards 'naturally' do? She struck a strange pose with her arms akimbo, causing the card to rush away quickly. Good, it must have worked! Either that or they had thought her to be insane.
This was now becoming some strange and exciting game. She waited patiently, pulling one ear out from under her cloak discreetly swivel it back and waiting for the footfalls to start back up again. Perhaps, she could find out just where this mysterious leveret was going.

Myth stopped partway down the side street, ears strained to listen for any sound of following footfalls. She finally gave into the urge to turn and look behind her, bright blue eyes scanning the edge of the street, watching the Cards all passing by on the main, busier street nearby. But she seemed to be...alone. A chill went up her spine at the thought. If she was alone, then would her personal tormentor come and find her, even here?
Quickly deciding she didn't care to find out, Myth returned to the main street with a hop, skip, and jump, and continued through the market. At one stand she stopped to buy a few fresh strawberries and a basket to hold them, which she carried in her mouth as she walked. By the time she had relaxed again out in the crowd, she had forced herself to forget about her would-be stalker. It must have been her own paranoia.
She hopped aimlessly around the market for a few more hours, pausing at one point to eat a few strawberries, savoring the sweet taste, and saving the rest for later, filling the rest of the basket with dandelion greens and one or two fresh carrots.

The leveret's actions were becoming more and more perplexing. She wasn't running errands at all, but rather spending her money for things seeming very much for her. Wouldn't her Jack be enraged by such a thing? Her eyes widened and she stood behind a barrel as she watched the disguised leveret eat fruit and gather food at her leisure. Already, they'd been out for hours. Layla's own stomach twisted in hunger, but she stoutly ignored it. Something was strange about this leveret; Layla was slowly beginning to suspect she wasn't part of a warren at all. And everyone knew what that meant; fair game if a Jack snatched them up. It was better than being stolen and sold off by rogue leverets, certainly. Layla shuddered at that unpleasant memory, how she'd been ripped away from her father's warren.
She'd been denied the honor of being traded properly, and it was a guilt that weighed heavily on her heart. Still, she couldn't expect Aleah to pay her father when he'd found her fair and square; he hadn't even been the one to buy her off those leverets.
When would this leveret finally go home? Layla sighed and shifted on her sore feet, but was resigned to follow this to the end. There was no way she'd come home both late and without solid evidence she'd found a rogue leveret.

Finally, Mythiril changed course. She headed, oddly enough, for the carriage stop. She stood, huddled undewr her cloak against the slight chill in the air, basket beside her, until a carriage pulled up. The Mid-Ranger hopped to the front of the thing and peeked her nose just barely out of her hood.
"Excuse me, sir," she said in a small, timid, but polite voice. "Does this ride go to the Court of Clubs?" Upon receiving an affirmative answer, she nodded and paid the driver with the last of her coin. She hopped back to get her basket, and paused for just a moment, basket in mouth and whiskers and nose twitching, listening. She had been feeling the odd prickles on the back of her neck all day, and she still felt them now.
Shaking the feeling off, Myth took a deep breath and went into the back of the carriage, where she tried to pass into an uneasy sleep. It would, of course, be troubled by extremely vivid nightmares of a sobbing little Squirrel girl, as always, and upon waking up the same would be whispering to her incessantly. Myth tossed and turned and tried to ignore it, tried to lost herself in her happy place where she was in a Warren and surrounded by her own. Where her duties were once again clear.

Tossing and turning and trying to be silent about it, Mythiril was very relieved indeed when the carriage finally arrived at its destination. When the warning knock came on the carriage door before the driver opened it, Myth was composed and ready, with her hood covering her ears perfectly. Intelligent blue eyes peered out from under the hood and she gave a polite "Thank you," to the driver, before taking her basket and hopping down to the ground. She paused a moment to look up at her current home, all cold hard stone and intimidatingly obvious structure.
The little Lev made her way to the gate, where she faced the guards with a slight bow. "His Majesty Sabe's servant," she introduced herself, as she always did, and they admitted her. But right as she was about to slip in between the walls of the gate, she thought she caught a flicker of movement out of the corner of her eye. She gasped very quietly and turned to look, but saw nothing. Just the carriage slowly making its way back to the Capital, Aces plodding along over the packed earth.
Shaking her head, she made her way back to her Jack.
((ooc: Hopefully this is sufficient, Nako? If so we can close it now. ^^))

What Layla had slowly begun to think was just convoluted fears with no grounds in reality was slowly forming to show that it was in fact true. She'd followed her for hours, clinging to the back of the dusty carriage until they'd come up to civilization where she was forced to abandon the carriage. She'd followed in the bushes after that, only to watch the leveret approach the courts. Servant…. Sabe. The terrified leveret filed these things in her mind, hitching a ride on the back of the carriage once more as it passed by. Being a lowly leveret, this was a news too startling for her to really comprehend the gravity of it all. What she did understand was that a leveret was in Card hands. Willingly. This went against every warning she'd ever been uttered as a child, and the warnings reinforced every time a leveret went out. Aleah had to be told, and needed to be told as soon as possible. ((It's great, thanks I'll label it finished.))
