He stared blankly at the piece of paper in front of him while sipping on a cup of coffee. He needed to write a story on one of the many topics that had been flying around after chaotic events in the city. He wasn't particularly sure how to tackle it. He could search for interviews, take the general vague approach which all the other papers seemed to be doing, or he could procrastinate and find a completely different route. He decided to go out for a walk. No one would notice him slipping away. Even if they did they were busy and he technically had a lunch break. Taking a book and a fountain pen he headed out of the office. Maybe he would try to visit Felaria. He had plenty of time before anyone noticed he was gone. He wandered into the crowd briefly, but his lack of focus made him stumble. And his papers went flying into the crowd. He silently cursed himself as he quickly went to snatch up all the papers.

Dania sputtered as several leaves of paper plastered themselves across her face, carried and held there by a contrary breeze. The first thing that met her restored sight as she peeled the pages from her face was a lanky human struggling to chase down additional pages. He looked flustered, and her face relaxed at once into a sympathetic expression. Dania grabbed another piece of paper as it tumbled past her ankle in the wind. The man seemed more than a little distracted, but who could blame him? She felt much the same herself each time some task or meeting for her father's bookstore brought her here, and repeated exposure had only somewhat eased the discomfort of the unfamiliar sights, smells and pace of life. The capital was a crowded, impersonal place, and it was mainly the deference her newly-raised rank afforded that made it bearable. People tended to give a queen some space, and Dania was for once glad of the red Q on her breast as she forded the crowd toward Harold, gathering what paper she could as she went. The man was, she noticed, quite slim and rather attractive (the thought, even unvoiced, made her ears and cheeks feel a little warm-- what would Faust think? He was, after all, her.... something. She didn't know what yet. She hoped it wasn't all in her head, whatever it was they had.) Dania shyly waved her pawful of papers at the long-haired stranger by way of greeting, and smiled her slightly nervous smile. "These yours?" It was a silly thing to say, as the answer was obvious, but it was all that came to mind, and would surely serve the purpose of getting his attention without the need to physically tap him on the shoulder.

Harold was starting to get frantic over his papers. Some had gone farther than he had expected, though most of them were in a reasonable reach. With the crumbled papers in his arm he froze when someone addressed him.
Papers! She had his papers! "Yes, I'm so sorry!" He said as he hurried over to collect them. Actually, that was probably the last of them. Not many people were actually willing to help a stranger, this was a nice change.
"Ah, thank you," he said as he rearranged his papers and took the ones she had. His eyes caught sight of her rank, and he panicked internally. Oh no, a Diamond. A Queen of Diamonds. But he couldn't run away after she was nice enough to help him with his papers. He needed to think of something to say rather than staring at her in terror. "Would you like a cup of coffee as proper thanks for helping me? Not many people are willing to stop and help after all."
He really hoped he didn't sound like an idiot.

"You're welcome." Dania said pleasantly. The man suddenly looked, well, a little nervous would be putting it mildly. That was one of the several uncomfortable aspects of her new rank. As a queen of a red suit, she seemed to be a little intimidating to many, which was both disconcerting and a little empowering. She tried to smile in a comforting sort of way, but it came out a little strained. Even if he was lower ranked than herself, coming face to face with an attractive stranger pushed the limits of Dania's social comfort zone.
She was about to turn and continue on her way when he spoke again. My, that was awfully polite of him. He was polite as well as pretty. In spite of herself, her muzzle softened in a rather more genuine smile, and she answered in a voice that was embarrassingly soft and vulnerable in tone. "Thank you, I'd like that," her mouth said, much to her mind's horror. She blinked violet eyes in something like surprise. She was going socialize with a random male she met on the street? She shifted nervously. This could probably only end in embarrassment, but the chance to escape gracefully had passed, and the only thing worse at this point than awkward coffee with a nice stranger would be awkward retroactive refusal of coffee.
With a suddenly dry mouth, she asked, "Do you have a place in mind?"

It was rather clear that both of them were awkward about the whole ordeal. Of course neither of them could say "never mind" at this point and walk the other way.. She was a soft spoken Queen, which could mean a variety of different things. He shifted the papers in his arms to one side in a nervous gesture.
As long as he played it safe and didn't talk about himself he could avoid lying. Suits only knew if she was the type to use the Diamond spell on people. He brushed a bit of hair out of his and regained his composure somewhat.
"There's a nice place right over there." With his free hand he pointed across the street to a small and quaint looking cafe. He gave the woman a small smile, though he looked much less terrified he seemed uncomfortable.
His shifting made his papers unsteady yet again and they nearly slipped out from under his arm. "I think... I might need to sit down to avoid another accident with my belongings," he said as he shifted things to both his arms again.

"Oh! Ah, so there is." As Dania saw the cafe, literally yards away, she felt rather foolish. She hadn't noticed the place at all, nor was she familiar with the social spots in the city. Cities and socializing were two things she had never had an affinity for.'
"That looks lovely." She smiled in an attempt to hide her discomfort. The man seemed ill at ease also, which made her less apprehensive about his intentions and character, but did nothing to diffuse the awkwardness of the situation. Perhaps he hadn't meant the invitation to be accepted, and it was one of those social conventions she never completely understood, but rather learned by rote over time, like how people asked 'how are you?' when they didn't actually want an answer.
Seconded guessing herself was something Dania was familiar with, and it was perhaps just as well that this time she had no polite method of escape. Besides she (or at least some part of her) clearly did want to have coffee with the man.
As his papers threatened to slip again, Dania realized that she had better not keep him standing in the street while she agonized over something that had already happened. Belatedly, she turned on her Diamond charm, just a little. Just to make herself a little less obviously awkward. "That sounds like a good idea... can I help with that?"
((Sorry I just... can not brains today...))
