Kendra was only trying to get some groceries for her family with her Mother, Iso, so why did everything have to go so screwy so fast!? They were just looking over some fish when a Selkie walked by, a real Selkie! They'd followed curiously for a few seconds, before hearing something odd...dry, raspy, and slithering. Next thing all three knew and they were waking up in what looked to be a lavish manor house! Felix's nose definably detected some Midori fingers...old on the air, but still quite there, while Iso smelled something more like a fine cigar.
They were all in separate beds, finely furnished, in a large room, glimmering with glitz and beauty. The door seems to be locked, though, and there aren't any windows... Good lord, what now...

Kendra rolled over lazily, stretched... and sat bolt upright, fast enough to get a dizzy rushing feeling in her head. Wh-what? Mom....? Where was the Selkie she had been following? For that matter, where was the bazaar? Something strange was going on, and while the location was not overtly threatening (if anything, the bed she found herself in was almost unspeakably comfortable), the sudden change of scenery was fairly unsettling.
But what scenery it was! Everything was either gleaming, burnished or plush, except those things that were silky or sparkling. The floor was adorned with a rug that looked so lavishly thick Kendra expected that she'd sink to her ankles if she stepped on it. Rather than test her theory right away, she pushed the satin comforter away and simply crept to the edge of her mattress, spying her mother nearby, cocooned in a similarly luxurious bed. "Where are we?", she asked, although there was a good chance that Iaso, who seemed to be sleeping, would not register the question.
From the look of it, this could very well be one of the courts; it was surely fancy enough. A faint strange smell hung in the air, sharp and sweet, but the girl couldn't place it. Maybe it was coming from the other bed? A bulky shape slumbered there, all details obscured by the layers of down comforters that surrounded it. For the first time since waking, Kendra began to feel a little afraid.

It was imperative that Iso free herself of her increasingly stifling quarters. It was astounding how a brood of infants who could not traverse on their own could manage to somehow permeate the house in its entirety. Productive cognition was simply not an option, hence she decided that this week, she would perform the weekly shopping in Polina’s stead. Kendra, who had been wonderful help with all the squalling offspring, had requested to join her.
Iso luxuriated in the relative silence as they padded down the cobblestone streets. Just as her stress began to dissipate as she perused the wares of a fishmonger, a beautifully healthy Selkie had crossed their paths and disappeared. Immediately, the memory of an inky behemoth surfaced in her mind’s eye, and the horned ferret couldn’t help but be drawn after the now-exotic creature. As they turned the corner, the Spade became uncomfortably aware of whispered crackling sound… As she stretched and tossed lightly to and fro, Iso recalled that this was the first in many nights that she had slept soundly and completely. She had forgotten how comfortable her mattress, how nicely the silken sheets caressed her form, how nicely her Grandfather Tonka’s expensive cigar smoke scented the air-
Her neck creaked horribly as she threw herself upright.
Kendra!, she yelled sharply, and was met by a confused, plaintive query. Thank the Spades… She closed her eyes and took a deep breath to calm herself. The heady scent still clung to the air, but she knew it couldn’t be her kin. Tonka was long deceased and she was… nowhere she had even been before.
Iso cursed softly to herself as she glanced around the room. The suite they were in was lushly decorated, filled with glamour and riches beyond anything she had ever expected to see in her lifetime. Such a waste of monetary resources! She had a bed on either side of her, one occupied by her impossible child, the other by what appeared to be a… Selkie.
I haven’t a clue, dear, the ferret muttered quietly in answer to Kendra’s earlier question. Are you all right? Iso was checking her pulse - slightly elevated, which was to be expected, considering - and tested all her appendages for signs of tampering. We do appear to have company, though, the woman added as the stranger stirred in their bed.

Felix rolled over in the wonderfully comfortable bed, and considered not waking up. He didn't quite remember when his bed had started to feel like this, a wonderfully comfortable nest of blankets and softness and pillows piled high beneath him, but he didn't much care at the moment. A contented sigh escaped him, and his nose twitched as he took int he scent of Midori Fingers. Ah! That explained the loss of memory. Or...did it? The scent was...off, somehow, and his head felt oddly clear, if he'd been indulging. Besides, he remembered with a depressing rush, even being forced to work, he wasn't making enough money to buy such things. Still...it was a nice smell, and this was a nice bed, and a contented smile spread over Felix's muzzle as he relaxed his quills and tried to fall back asleep. Of course, the two voices in the same room were going to prevent that. Oh well. The Porcupine reluctantly rolled over and opened his eyes...which immediately widened. Where -was- he? Felix sat bolt up in bed, hardly daring to breathe. Was this some sort of wonderful dream? Or...he looked wonderingly over at the other two in their beds as well. He looked at the Ferret with the many horns on her head, and for a mad moment he thought that perhaps she had brought him back to her house to--but then why would her child be in the room as well? Ugh, too much thinking! " Hi!" he called cheerfully. " Is this your house? It's...groovy." He couldn't find a better word right then, but he didn't think he needed one. Smoothing his quills a bit and unabashedly taking in the rest of the room, Felix waited for the other two to confirm this. Maybe they felt sorry for him? A lot of people did, nowadays, for Selkies. It had netted him one or two flings he wouldn't have gotten otherwise, so he wasn't going to complain about that. And he did recognize the two from somewhere...oh yeah! They'd been following him in the market. And he would have stopped to say hello, only he'd been going to work and he was already a half hour late. A brief frown crossed his face. He was definitely later than that, now, and this would almost certainly be the end of that job. Pity only got you so far. He hated having to worry about something like this.

Her mother's shout seemed a little more panicked than Kendra's appraisal of the situation called for, and that boosted the girl's anxiety further, so she twisted the rich fabric of the coverlet in her paws. "I'm here, mum.", she said, even though it was clear that Iso had already spotted her. Kendra jumped off the bed (and the carpet was indeed every bit as deep and soft as it looked), and went over to her mother's side, adjusting her glasses as she went.
She examined the room as she went. No windows, so she couldn't gage what time of day or night it was, or the realm they were in. A door at one end of the room was of ornately carved wood, matching the extravagant furnishings that set off the richly toned fabrics of bedding and wall hangings. The room was quiet and a pleasant temperature for sleeping. Had they gone to hotel and forgotten it? Stranger things had happened to her before.
"I'm fine." In fact, apart from a mild sense of disorientation, she felt remarkably well, as if she had slept deeply and for a full night. "You're okay, too?" Iso seemed to be unharmed, but the girl would be glad to hear so from her mother's own lips.
Iaso's words directed her daughter's attention to the remaining bed, where Felix stirred. "Oh!" She breathed softly, startled to see the Selkie they had followed in the marketplace. He appeared perfectly healthy, a true rarity. Kendra tried not to stare. Since she had witnessed Suvius poisoning the water, the young Corvie had developed a mild obsession with the now-rare realm, one based more on guilty fascination than actual scientific interest. Now a real Selkie was talking to her!
"Um, hi. No, uh, we don't live here." She told Felix, and made a brave attempt at a smile.

Iso rubbed her forehead with a paw, attempting to ease away the mild irritation she felt toward the Selkie and the panic she felt rising within. Of course this wasn’t their home – else why would they be checking in with one another? The Spade took another deep breath. It wasn’t this man’s fault; he was just as confused as they were.
I appear to be unharmed, she replied to her daughter. A fact that was interesting in and of itself. She didn’t feel sore, and seemed unable to find any inflammation or tenderness from a recent injection site. Of course she suspected foul play – how else did one end up in a strange place without recollection of arriving there, if not for some manipulation of some sort?
The stripe of ink along her back undulated in soft, nervous waves, reflecting her anxiety. They had been out to market… where were they now, and what time was it? The lack of windows provided no insight whatsoever, and was disconcerting at best… Interesting.
No, sir. I’m afraid this particular establishment is foreign to us. I’m assuming from your question that you’ve never been here, either?
Ignoring an impulse to question the man, Iso investigated whether there were any constraints upon her person or anything unsavory to either side of her. Seeing nothing that would prevent her from leaving, Iso slid out of bed and meandered toward the ornate door at the other end of the suite. She pulled down hard on the polished brass handle.
Locked.
They were trapped in a strange room, with a strange man, Spades-knew-where. Wonderful.
We’re locked in.
Iso looked toward her daughter and the Selkie, and lowered herself into a nearby armchair, brows furrowed in thought and purposefully breathing slowly to prevent herself from panicking. Okay. They were three. Kendra, herself, and this healthy Selkie. She pursed her lips and looked at the porcupine. There were plenty of reasons why someone would want to kidnap a Selkie these days, but a Corvie and her daughter? What had they in common with this stranger? Perhaps that would determine why they were here together?
To state the obvious, we need to determine why and how we arrived here, and more importantly, how to depart.

So they didn't live here either? Well, that kinda made sense, from the way they were looking around as if they'd never seen anything so plush. Felix really didn't want to get out of bed, but part of him felt it would be rude to try and go back to sleep right now. Besides, on further inspection, the carpet actually looked quite soft. He slid down off the bed, taking approximately half the blankets with him, and sunk his paws into the carpet. Mmmm, this was nice. Very nice. He could get used to this.
He turned to blink at the Ferret. Wow that was a lot of big words. He scrunched his face up, trying to find her meaning, and...oh! "Nah, never been here before in my life! But man, what I was missing out on!" He sounded far from worried. Waddling about the room and staring up at all the finery, he didn't even think to question why he was here just yet. His golden eyes roamed wonderingly over fine oak bed frames, dressers, gaudy lights, and a very large vanity in the corner with--his heart clenched in sudden, alien fear--a large, gilded mirror. Quickly, the Porcupine turned away from the mirror and back to the two Corvies.
"Man, you're really smart, aren't you?" he asked the Ferret, as he once again tried to puzzle out her meaning. "But...shouldn't we just say our names first? I'm Felix!" If they were trapped here for a bit, that meant they were stuck with each other, so he saw no reason not to just be friendly.

Felix suddenly became aware of an odd sound...a bit like distant footsteps. But how would he hear that all the way up...wherever they are? No windows, so maybe they're on the ground floor? Meanwhile, both Iso and her daughter begin to smell...pancakes?

Satisfied both that her mother was unhurt and the Selkie meant no harm, Kendra relaxed enough to begin poking around the room while the two adults talked. There seemed to be quite a large number of decorative pillows and other pretty items of no utility. It wasn't the kind of decor she was used to, but it was pretty. She squeezed a plump satin feather pillow as she watched her mother try the door across the room from her. It was a nice place, this fancy, comfy room. It even smelled rather yummy, so she wasn't entirely in hurry to leave, but if mom was eager to go, she supposed...
Locked?!? That changed matters somewhat, and nerves stirred unhappily in the pit of her stomach. She put the pillow back in it's place and rejoined Iaso, who seemed to be having some trouble conversing with a confused-looking Selkie. At least he didn't seem to be at all worried.
She giggled as he made the observation that her mother was smart. That was so obvious a statement as to strike her as a little ridiculous, but her humor was all in friendliness, and just to be polite she introduced herself in the same simple manner that Felix did. "I'm Kendra!"
The porcupine seemed like a pleasant sort, although not at all like the grownups she was used to. He was really a bit more similar to some of the non-corvie kids at her school in the capital. She could imagine being fond of him as a classmate.

Iso was more than a little dismayed by the porcupine’s reaction. Apparently he was in complete awe of their decadent surroundings and cared little for why or how they had come to be there. Kendra was busy exploring, which was to be expected. She was clever for her magically misbegotten years, but she was still young and her curiosity was appropriate. The man, on the other hand… how could he not be remotely concerned?!
The answer was immediately apparent with his next words. Fighting the urge to groan, Iso merely blinked and looked upward at the ceiling as though the roof over their heads would offer some sort of solace.
Thank you, her reply came with a heavy sigh. I am Dr. Iaso Price, but you may simply call me Iso. Kendra is my daughter. All pleasantries aside, are you not troubled by the fact that we have all found ourselves in this room without exit?
Clearly, Iso was extremely bothered, and how could she not be? After what had occurred during the War, she could only assume that the worst was yet to come. There was no reason for she or her daughter to be here, and that the only door was locked without did not bode well.
I, for one, do not take it lightly that I have woken up in a strange place without memory of traveling here. I find it disturbing, especially when considering the fact that we are locked in.
Her nostrils flared a bit as she removed herself from her seat. It probably won’t be any good, but I’m going to see if there is a spare key somewhere.
She headed toward an armoire and began shuffling through the drawers.
What is the last thing either of you recall before waking up?, the Corvie asked as she fussed with another cabinet and stopped abruptly as a new scent hit reached her nose. She looked positively perplexed as she pulled away from the armoire.
Do either of you… smell pancakes?
